I have two CD-ROM drives, one with a burner and one without. When I went to play NBA Live tonight, it wouldn't read the disk. It also wouldn't read any disk I put in either drive, including audio CD's. After some searching, I found that the drivers for both CD drives were not working, and I got this error message:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I tried updating the driver, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, and downloading the most recent Windows and Dell updates. None of them worked. The funny thing is, it was working yesterday without any problems. All I could come up with is that I recently had a problem with ad-ware on my PC, and I ran an anti-ad-ware program. Could that have been the problem? If not, what is the problem?
My specs:
Windows XP
Intel Celeron 2.40 GHz
512 MB RAM
and the two drives are HL-DT-ST- CD-RW GCE-8160B and SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-148A
