changing player names in dynasty mode

How do you go about modifying player info (such as names, height) in dynasty mode? Do you need a program for this? Or do I just need to find a file and edit it in notepad?

Just open the players.dbf file in your savegame directory with a database editor, such as dbcommander and change the names you want.
