New guy thoughts and questions

Postby Kintaro56 on Fri Sep 16, 2005 2:50 am

I just bought Live 2005 used for my Xbox...I haven't played a "Live" game since 1998 for my old PlayStation.

I struggled early with the "All-Star" difficulty. I only shot around 30% for a game.

I then moved down to "Starter" difficulty, and discovered a new offensive play: the "3 point" play.

Using the Kings, I controlled the ball with the SG, called the play, waited for Bibby to break free and then passed it to him, and he usually made the shot.

Starter seems a little too easy, and I don't know if I want to try All-Star again for a while.

On defense, I'm starting to do better. I always take control over Webber, and roam around near the hoop. If my opponent tries to go for a close shot, I move Webber over to make the block or get the rebound.

I'm starting to enjoy the game now that I'm winning. I was getting very frustrated on All-Star difficulty.

I do have some questions:

What offensive and defensive plays work best? All that I run are the pick and roll, and the 3 point play I described before.

I noticed the default setting for fatigue is zero. Why is that? What do others use as a reasonable setting?

Thanks.

I just tried All-Star again, and got smashed by 20 points.

Really though, I picked up 2005 for 7 bucks. It will tide me over for a while.

Tried All-Star again. Did a little better, but still got my butt kicked.

I read a bunch of old threads about how easy it is to score in the post, but I can't do it with Webber.

You just gotta keep practicing until you get used to everything
Those people that talked about it being so easy to score were probably just like you when they started and it took a lot of practice to get as good as some of them, so just be patient and keep on playing... (Y)

I really can't come up with a good reason as to why the simulation settings have it on 0, but most people seem to achieve good results around the 50 range for Fatigue. I've got mine set to 52 at the moment and it seems to work. I suggest turning it up when playing the All-Star Game in Dynasty Mode though, so that the CPU subs more often.

Check out the stickied thread for sliders at the top of this section for other suggestions. (Y)

I hope you're right.

I keep trying to utilize Webber, but he misses some fairly easy fadeaways.

At least they're not getting blocked.

Tried it again, this time I lost on All-Star by 10 points.

Did a lot better with Webber, but he would miss every shot if double-teamed, even if the center was nowhere near him. The center would break toward Webber, and then Webber would miss. Every. Time.

Kick it out for three (Y)

I actually didn't start playing at All-Star until this past summer, and I've had 05 since Christmas. It took a while for me to get used to it too. A tip: change around the sliders until you find something you like, it helps a lot

Thanks. I'll try for the three, but it was the center who kept rushing over. I kind of panicked when I saw him constantly do that, so I always went for the shot.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

(Y)

I played last night, and won by 17 on All-Star, in a Kings vs Kings game!

Then I played the Pistons as the Kings, and lost by 20.

The Piston's guards are sick. They killed me.

I'm going to try the crossover...that's basically moving the right analong to the left and right, correct?

Yup. It's hard for me to beat good teams too. I don't play often enough to get better, but that's okay cause 06's coming soon, and I'll play that. :D

what i often do to make space for a shot is isolate then press right on right analog and move right not left so you dont do a crossover then shoot. its complicated explanin but its a basic move i use a lot
