i'm using bassman58's template, but it's a paint shop pro file, so it 's not compressed to one layer, and i can change the layers separately. i also have photoshop cs2, so i'll try what you've said.

EDIT: i've tried, but i can't seem to understand what you mean. the way you describe doesn't change the colour for me, so maybe i'm doing it wrong. the best way i've found so far to change the colour is to create a new layer, colour it, and set it to multiply.
