What all of the buttons do ...

Tue Jul 19, 2005 12:05 pm

Has anyone ever seen or MADE a list for the Xbox console what all the various buttons do in different situtations? I have found it somewhat hard to figure this out. Sometimes, if you tap a button vs. hold it down ... that will do something different (but only if it is a rebound situation). There seem to me to be so many different button tapping/holding (with the joystick held back, etc.) combinations that it makes me feel as if I not doing all that I can during a game.

Thanks in advance.

I would like to create a spreadsheet with all the buttons for the Xbox console and what each button does in its various states (ex. rebounding, vs. dribbling, vs. Triple Threat, etc.).

I think that this would really help people out when playing the game.

ok...
Offense:
X-Dunk/layup/rainbow shot when far from the basket, selecting PF when using off-ball or direct pass
A-Pass, selecting SF when using off-ball or direct pass
B-Shoot (how long you hold it matters), selecting SG when using off-ball or direct pass
Y-Pro-hop, selecting C when using off-ball or direct pass

Right analog stick (Offense):
Up while moving -Spin move
Up while stationary -hesitation dribble
down while moving -hesitation dribble
down while stationary -step back
right while ball is in right hand, moving -fakes to dribble to the right
right while ball is in right hand, not moving -fakes driving right
right while ball is in left hand, moving AND not moving -cross to left hand
left - same as right hand, just change reverse it

Black button- Direct pass
White button- pass to player furthest in front, if held, alley-oop pass
left trigger- backs down the defender
right trigger- turbo
"back" button- call timeout

Shooting styles with left analog:
left+shoot button: shoots while moving to the left
right+shoot button: shoots while moving to the right
down+shoot button: fadeaway
up+shoot button: lean forward and shoot (note: if defender is in the air trying to block, doing this will cause your shooter to lean into him)

D-Pad (playcalling):
up-basket cut
down-pick and roll
left-isolation
right-post up

Defense:
X- Steal, or dive for the ball if it's loose, change to PF for direct switch
A- Switch players, change to SF for direct switch
B- take charge, change to SG for direct switch
Y- Jump/rebound, change to C for direct switch

Right analog (defense):
right/left- steal with right/left hand
down- get in defensive stance

Black button- direct switch
white button- switch to player beneath the basket
left trigger- defensive stance
right trigger- turbo
"back" button- intentional foul

D-pad (playcalling defensive):
up-full court man to man
down-double team
right-half court man to man
left- 2-3 zone defense

NOTE!: This is based on the DEFAULT controller configurations of the xbox, d-pad playcalls included, they are all the default
I hope this is comprehensive enough

Rebounding ...

Do you happen to know which buttons do what when trying to rebound in both offense and defense?

For example, I know that if you miss a shot, the B button has your player try to tip the ball back in, but I don't recall what the other buttons do (esp. when you are on defense).

Thanks!
