I'm sure someone has asked this already about laptops but...

Postby joeygraham on Mon Jul 11, 2005 1:53 am

So I got a new laptop for university last year (circa October) and just picked up NBA Live 2005 a couple of weeks ago. My dilemma is that my graphics card is Radeon 7500 and will not properly play the game (it looks like something out of Hollow Man). I was told that laptop graphics cards cannot be updated. Is this true? Is there a way around it? I can't go get a new laptop as this one set me back quite a bit and now I'm a little pissed because I can't properly play it and it looks ever so much better than the pervious ones.

Can someone offer me an interesting solution? Even if it is financially infeasible, outside of buying a new laptop, what can I do?!?!

All my other specs are well above the requirements, so this is the only issue here

You can update it, just go to the ATI website and they have an update. But it should still work even with out the update. Try changing your display size and playing around with your detail settings. Good Luck (Y)

I'm not exactly computer savvy - how could I update my graphics card from their site. Would there be a fee? Again, its a RADEON 7500 if someone could try and find me a direct link if this is a viable solution.[/quote]

You don't have to be computer savy. Here's there link http://ati.com/, just look around and find update RADEON 7500, download the file, then run the program and it will be automatically updated. I only have a RADEON 7000 and it works perfect for NBA Live 2005, like I said before also play around with the detail settings in the game. If something doesn't work you can always change it and try something else. Good Luck :D Here I found the exact link you need https://support.ati.com/ics/support/def ... olderID=27 so use this one instead of the top one. Best of Luck!

First off, thanks for your suggestion. No, that's not sarcasm.

If it's the catalyst program that I need to download, it won't go. I tried downloading everything connected to Radeon with no success. There was this test to see if I could run Catalyst on my IBM laptop and it said it could not.

Any other suggestions?

Well I'm a little stumped. Like I said, I only have a RADEON 7000 and it works great. Can you describe to me in a little more detail what your problem is (what the game looks like when you run it). I'll do my best to help you out. In the meantime here's a link with all the previous drivers for all RADEON video cards
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/def ... deptID=894 Also what is your O/S and maybe I can get the proper update and e-mail it to you or tell you which one you need exactly. Best of Luck :)

Thanks Myc for all your help. When I started looking at the Catalyst Mobile, I realized that IBM wasn't on the list of supported systems. So, hoping that the people at IBM were not jerks at heart, I went over to the IBM site and lo and behold, in the drivers section, the update that I've been searching for. I can finally see where the three point line is! So once again, thank you for leading me to my NBA Live Holy Grail (go hyperbole go)

Hey guys,

Hate to start this up again but I think I am experiencing about the same problem. I have an aTI RAdeon 7500 video card and for some reason I can see everything but the players and the hoops, except for the shorts of the plaers for some reason. Just wondering if anyone thinks I need an update for the card or if there are any setting I should be adjusting? All my other system specs seem to be over the top. I am also running XP. ANy help would be very greatly appreciated. maybe the image below will help.

Hey, Like I told Joey check out the updates on the ATI website. You can use one of the links above and if that don't work try what Joey did and go to your laptops manufacturers website and they'll probably have an update. Best of Luck :)

I downloaded one off dell and now I can see the players, but I am thinking they should look a little better then what they are looking, but I could be wrong. Here is what I have now.

I should also mention that I downloaded the older of the two drivers that I found, when I downloaded the newer I saw the same results I had before. The ones I have are from 3/30/03.

Thanks again.

Yeah it could look a little better. You might try playing around with the detail settings in the game. I think by default it automatically uses 640x480 and the bigger #'s the better res. Also it depends on how powerful your laptop is, you might want to try lowering the arena atmosphere as well as turning the crowd animation off. Just play around in the details section of the game to try and get what you want. If all else fails go to https://support.ati.com/ics/support/def ... deptID=894 and download the most recent update from the video card manufacturer. Well best of luck!
