[PC] How to make effective crossovers

I don't understand how you use the crossover button in the PC version effectively. It looks like if I press the crossover button I'll do a random crossover move. The CPU uses the right crossover moves each and every time, how do I do this? Sometimes it's even so bad I dribble out of bounds when I press the button close to the line. So how do I beat a player in 1vs1?

PS. I see the CPU do sometimes somekind of über-freestyle move where he dribbles the ball really fast behind his back about five times, standing still. How do I do this trick?

you have to get a joypad with analog sticks you cannot make those crosovers with keyboard
