Just Made the Game twice as good.

Sat Jan 29, 2005 12:41 am

I edited all the players speed ratings in the game. I was fed up of having to flick the freestyle control back and forth just to get Keith Van Horn of balance with Chucky Atkins. Now i can actually just run by a guy about 6/10 times without having to button smash/twist and break and analog contol in the process. The game feels so uch better, this took me a long time to do though. About 4 hours.

Forget to add, also you can now turn down freestyle to a realistic setting. You no longer have to have it at ridiculously high levels just to get by a player that in real life is as slow as a granmda with a zimmerframe.

Another thing i forgot to add is;

1. The fast break is much more realistic, PG's can actually push the rock while the Forwards and Centers trail.

2. The isonlation play is much more effective, i just played Boston and Bucks, Gary Payton got by Joe Smith with out to much trouble, AND also because the players speed is more realistic, shots can be created so swinging the ball is better, and players are not triple teamed the second they get in the key because the Forwards/Centers are slightly slower. It makes the game feel so much better.

It's amazing how one attribute can affect the game so much.

Sounds like you put down a lot of time and effort into this and that it really improves the game. (y)

Remember to edit your posts if you make them with so little time in between instead of posting a new posts if you have something to ad.

Yea, sorry i forgot about that!

I understand what you mean but I didn't know which players you've given a higher speed rating and which not?

Sat Jan 29, 2005 6:46 am

I have given all the young Guards 99 speed 99 quickness.

Older Generation Guards, eg. Gary Payton, Tony Delk, Lindesy Hunter, Charlie Ward etc. a speed rating of 75 and quickness 75. (Though i just edited players speed according to how they are in real life).

The Centers and Power Forward all speed set at zero, (again adjusted to real life speed etc, eg. Chris Mihm is faster than Desagsna Diop, so i put Mihm at 10 speed 10 quickness and Desagana at zero.

SF i just adjusted according to how fast they are in real life, so all speed ratings varied.

SG i did the same as the SF also made sure there was a difference betweena athletic quick players, (Kobe, T-Mac, Vince, Pierce to guys like Greg Buckner, DeMarr Johnson, Allan Houston etc)

Get It?

Thats not as affective though. THen that means al teams are the same if they have a certain C and PF and stuff. Good idea and stuff but wouldnt add as much realism as suppose to be and less challenging.... :|

I thought reducing PF/C's speed ratings would make it worse. The default rating has already made it impossible for a PF to make a lone fastbreak. They didn't even look like they're running!

True King_James88.. like O'neal for example in the game runs really slow default on fast breaks.... but in real games i have seen him on the MOVE!! faster than he is in the game

What about a Center like Ben Wallace? I really wouldn't consider him as a slow runner.

Yeah! Ben Wallace is quite athletic and he can run.

Like i said people, i adjusted ACORRDINGLY to players real speed, and no Ben Wallace speed is at 40 and quickness 40.

So basically what you're saying, are you adjusting players to their real speed in an exaggerated sense? Like if someone's slow in real life, then his speed/quick rating is basically 0 in the game and if someone's quick his speed/quick is maxed out? I would've thought the exaggeration on the ratings would make it more noticeable in the game, thus being more realistic... which would be cool.

I won't recommend changing all their speed to such a basic guide as that one. Every player is different and giving a standard as basic as that is just not very smart. The speed of a player can affect their offensiveness. Players who are fast like D. Manson, B. Knight, all they do when they get the ball is drive past the defense and run toward the hoop without even setting up plays. If you play against Charlotte or even Hawks, you’ll notice that Knight and Anderson will put up about 20 fg attempts in the game while Walker and Okafor puts up last than 10. Making guards fast will just make them try to score every time they touch the ball.

Also it's not always about how fast a player is. It is how fast a player is with the ball. G. Payton might not be as fast as he use to be but with the ball, he is much faster than most rookie guards.
