My Favourite Players To Use In Live 05

Postby J@3 on Wed Jan 19, 2005 6:20 pm

There's probably a fair few threads about this, but I'm going to make another one... from 1 to 5... these are non-big name guys btw

1: Keith Van Horn
This guy is awesome. I'm talking Dirk Nowitzki awesome, and he's only rated 68 or something stupid. I traded Finley for KVH and a draft pick, KVH proceded to score 46 in his first game and maintained an average of 26ppg for the season. He can hit mid range jumpers like crazy, you've just got to be brave enough to take them.

2: Darrell Armstrong
Everyone should trade for him straight away. He's amazingly fast, and he can shoot the three really well aswell. Basically if you want to drive and dish he's the guy for it. In my Dallas dynasty he didn't really play much more than 13mpg off the bench, but he was averaging 7/5 and a couple of steals.. spark-plug style, awesome PG.

3: Marcus Haislip
It's a bit of a double edged sword with Marcus. Sometimes he can be impossible to score with, getting blocked on every shot and not actually bothering to rebound or anything. However, sometimes it's like using a faster Amare Stoudemire. He blocks everything that goes near him, throws down about 70% of alley-oops and runs the floor really well.

4: Ronald Murray
It's odd, he doesn't really shoot all that well unless you're wide open but he's pretty quick and a really good dribbler. Pushing the ball up the floor with a back-court of Murray and Armstrong is alot of fun, it's fast as hell and it makes for some good alley-oop opportunities. That being said, if I had to pick between the two I'd take Armstrong.

5: Pavel Podkolzine
He's really big, and he tends to crash the boards like some form of giant Ben Wallace. I've had two experiences with him that've made an impression... the first time was when he wouldn't do anything, couldn't shoot, was getting out-rebounded big time so I had to sub him out... the other time, was when he had 16/9/8 blocks in the 4th quarter and basically single handedly won the game. Still fun to have on the court, looks imposing.

Enough of my ranting, if anyone's got some personal favourites leave them here (Y)

Murray is a great player to use, if you get into the flow of releasing shots with him he is a great player.

Couple of my favourites are Tyron Lue, Josh Childress, Tyson Chandler and Ben Gordon. I was going to explain why but my dinner is ready so fuck you :P

Andre Barret. He's only rated a 43 or 44 i think, but he's very solid, averaging around 5 points 2 rebounds and 6 assists per game in 13 minutes. i don't use him as a scorer but a play maker, since i have yao and tmac on my houston dynasty to do that. but he's a great example of how crappy ratings don't do the players' justice.

Rafer Alston is also a great PG to use, he can dish, shoot the three, drive, and steals very well. I got him in my Rockets dynasty and he's averaging 10/13 and 4 steals.
Ronald Murray is also a good stealer.

here are some players i've been using in past lives

Tayshuan Prince- this guy is fun to use because he can do it all, it's fun to use him at PG to play D on quick guards, or to match him onto Kobe or T-Mac. He's also a good rebounder, and good shooter....i usually get 15,5,5 from him.

Corliss Williamson- he's the guy i have pretty much each year coming off the bench because of his high Inside Scoring mixed with his quickness. i play him @ SF, run post up plays for him and then he just dominates....sometimes i'll play him @PF, but not often because he's not a great defender

Speedy Claxton- I love using this guy because he can push the ball really well from court to court, a great dribbler and passer and a very good defender as well as a solid shooter, however most points come from fast breaks and drives

Chauncey Billups- he's my fav choice for PG.....he's quick and good for the break but what i love about him is his shooting....he can shoot it from anywhere and i often run pick and rolls for him which he consistently knocks down, basically he's the ultimate offensive option, and he can play SG too.

Brendan Haywood- He's great for defense, matches up well with Shaq and other big guys....basically rebounds and blocks shots and scores off offensive rebounds.

Kwame Brown- whenever i play him he's not a bust :P anyways, he's solid inside and from mid range and i love his athleticism. with his abilities he's able to dominate the likes of JO and Chris Webber at both ends, however I've yet to meet a player that can do that to Tim Duncan. Still good for 25, 12 and 3bpg

Jerry Stackhouse- I've used him since Live 98 and he's always been my G2G....no fancy FG%'s but good on the break, good passer and fairly athletic.

Actually, Erry is fantastic on Live 05... I traded him because of who he is lol, but he gets to the hole really really easily and scores alot of points.

Corliss is great to have on your team, I haven't used him a whole lot in 2005 but for Live 04 Corliss was a star. I picked him up for my Atlanta Hawks team in a online league (he averaged like 2 points for the previous team) and at my team he won the Most Improved Player Award and 6th Man Award :!:

The reason he did that was because he is so strong and is great inside, I used the post up play so he would post up against other SF's and as you could tell he dominated on that role.

I remember one game against the Lakers who had the best record in the league, I was trailing the whole game until 2 seconds left where Corliss hit a inside hook !

Ah the memories...
Play the game, win the fight!

I like to use guys like Jeff Foster (he's like a dunking taller rodman :) ), then Reggie Evans (i just have a lot of luck with him - he scores everytime in the post  ) or Tyson Chandler (a great shot blocker and very solid on offense)...I also like Steven Hunter, who is a bit like Chandler... Big (Y) on both of those. Claxton is hella fast plus I can get a ton of steals with him. Haywood blocks good and rebounds even better. In the post he's dangerous.

Of course I gotta add J-Rich, all dunks all day plus he'll hit the big three to finish the game.

Duncan is mean on the game, he cant be stopped in the game and cant forget Wade. That guy is so quick he cant be guarded.

Interesting names mentioned here (Y) Got to try them out...

But if you happen to play Bens rosters, retro ones, and play with 95-96 bulls look for the Kemp. Yes the Kemp with colored hair. No not in defense, in offence. The guy has scored 24 points per two games Ive played with retro bulls, Rodman is fast, penetrating and helluva dunker. Both games player of the game.

;)

In my Bobcats dynasty, i am up to my second season and Primoz Brezec aint bad he has height and that allows him to get many blocks and rebonds. He is now comming off the bench because i signed Gasol in the offseason, but still manages to get about 6 rebs and a couple of blocks.

Also i like Jason Williams! he is quick, can crossover people on the fast break and can shoot well inside and out! He is also a great defender being able to steal the ball well!

I like to use Lamar Odom. I cut them up with my freestyle and make tough layups.

With the new midrange game, I love getting double teamed in the post, and then passing to Chris Wilcox for the open jumper. It works really well.

So far I've only played dynasty with Live and only played with the Suns. Steven Hunter is a beast. In 6 minute quarters I had a 24 point, 11 rebound, 3 blocks game with him. Amare was out.

Dwight Howard-Incredible rebounder. Good shot blocker. Can also hit that little jumper from the baseline. As someone mentioned, he's like a slower KG.

Podkolzine- 7'5 305. I was experimenting with him one time, and he seemed to grab every rebound. Even with his size it's tough to get blocks. It's also hard to score with him becuase he seems to the be the slower step child of Kurt Rambis Bill Walton. Although his hands are pretty quick. For a guy rated pretty low he make's a decent addtition to the bench.

Shane Battier-Great on defense. Is always a steal waiting to happen. He presents matchup problems(6'8). He can shoot the 3 and runs the court well.

Udonis Haslem-He's much better on Andrew's 1.04. A rebounding machine, and a pretty good defender.

I also love Chandler and Odom. Use Odom at point, he actually does pretty well, and seems to drive the CPU up a wall.

David West - Awesome rebounder, and surprisingly effective on the offensive end when the defense tries to double team the centre. Plays well above what his rating would suggest.

Leandro Barbosa - Gets lots of steals on the defense, nice speed running up the court on offense, and can certainly hit the open three. The perfect backup point guard to have coming off the bench.

Luol Deng - Not spectacular in any area, but very solid in them all. Can do a little bit of everything, which covers up any shortcomings of your other players. My favourite player to have on the team by far: one night he'll score 30 points, the next he'll grab 10 rebounds, the next he'll get 10 assists. Whatever your team is struggling for, he seems to pick up the slack.

Shaun Livingston - Who doesn't want a point guard that's taller than some small forwards? Add to that the fact that he develops rapidly if you keep him around for a few years, and he becomes the obvious player to trade for in dynasty mode.

Eddie Griffin: Good solid player. He has a wide variety of skills on the court, good inside scorer, he has outside game and the ability to block a few shots here and there.

Shaun Livingston & Luol Deng, I have both these players in my dynasty and im not impressed. Loul Deng will be the 1st to get traded. Im gonna hold onto Livingston and see if he gets any better (y)
