Half Court man-to-man

Wed Jan 19, 2005 7:18 am

Does this defense serve any purpose? When my call this defense my men rarely play man-to-man defense let alone defense at half court. It seems that if I want my men to pick up thier man as they come across the line I have to call 3/4 Court defense. They really need to improve the execution of the playcalling on the game. Anyone had any success with this particular play?

I mostly just call for Half Court Man-to-Man when I am switching from like a zone or something, but I am still on the defensive end as I change it
I believe it is mostly for changing into man from another D-Fence instead of picking up right after they cross Half-Court
But like I am more often than not, I am possibly wrong

Maybe by half court defense they think of waiting for the 'half court offense', which doesn't exactly mean everyone stand on the half court line until your man crosses it. Big guys like to wait around the paint for their guy, you don't see Shaq wait at the half court line for the opposing teams center.

And also, if you manage to get a stop or defensive rebound while playing half court man to man, that's having success with that play, right? You stopped a basket after all.

Ofcourse I don't expect them to try do something like a half-court press or trap but at least pic up perimeter guys as they come across the line so they can't run up for an easy 3. I pretty much don't even use it anymore just 3/4 court and plain man-to-man
