Qualifying for the 3pt shootout

Went back 13 pages and didn't see a thread on this.

I am a new player playing in dynasty mode with a fantasy draft. I sim every game.

Every season I have at least one player qualify for the dunk contest, but I only can qualify for the 3pt shootout when I draft Peja (even when I draft Redd he doesn't go)(I don't tend to draft Allen). Now there are 4 participants for the dunk contest and a whole bunch for the 3pt shootout.

Does anyone know how the computer chooses who goes and who doesn't? (It doesn't seem to be pure ratings).

no it isnt ratings, but more like it should be the amount of 3pm or the 3p% of the season, not sure which. Dunks should be on ratings and usually you have someone in the contest if eligible anyway.

I mean if the primacy is high then the player is a featured part of the offense. Can this game simulate someone like a Chicago Bulls era Steve Kerr who only takes 4 or 5 shots a game, all of them 3 pointers or will all players have roughly the same balance of 3pt attempts to regular field goal attempts?

I had T-Mac and he got in to the dunk contest and 3 pt contest. I shot a lot of 3's with him, so that might be a reason why I got in.

Anyone with a three point rating over 75 (thus displaying the 3 Point strength icon) is considered a three point specialist, but I believe the game prefers to select players with the highest three point ratings (a mix of mostly 80s and 90s).

I think its the amount of 3pm's. I havent played more than two seasons, but on both instances my player who scored in my team most 3d'ters (different each year, Kapono on one and DerMarr Johnson on another) and were not far from the top of the league with that made it into the contest.

But yeah, not sure really. Dunk Contest and 3PT one are really just an annoyance in dynasty imho, yes good that they are there but it isnt hyped enough (really isnt). You cant even get the option to see the contest where you arent participating, and dunk one is really more super-human contest than a human one

So yeah, it depends on luck alot. Live isnt a real-life dynasty simulation yet, where media and popularity plays a big role. Like 98 all stars game that had Kobe as a starter though he was a sub in regular season. Or like Yao getting the most votes because of hi-rate of asian voters. Its a popularity contest, both of them really, and dunk contest shouldnt be random but more like sending someone to the contest. Perhaps next year. Media news, between player grudges (but not very specific, just saying that this player has got problems with that one, I dont want this Total Club Manager shiet when one player scratches another players car and they have an arguement because of that).

So yeah, no worries. Youll make the 3pt contest someday and when its over its over and apparently wasnt anything special in the first place
