Tips and help needed.

Hi all.

I've never really got any intrest in basketball till my lil bro bought nba live 05 for ps2 at christmas. I've been playing since and i really love the game, also watched few nba matches at my friend through his satellite (only ones that show nba here). I basicly didn't know much about basketball, but now i've learned this and that... anyway..

After i played some games against my lil bro, i decided to start my own dynasty...i chose utah jazz as i never really have liked to start with the best team in any game. I played about 30 first games with starter level and also adjusted the sliders to "realistic" (from the website) and set quarter time to 8minutes .I Lost few of the first games, after that i started to win, though lost one game here and there..After those 30 games i was 18-12 and had won 4 in a row. I decided to move to allstar level. Now i'm at 19-24 :(.

I just can't seem to win at this level, it's usually tight till the 4th quarter but somehow the cpu seems to pull away, i tend to end up losing by 5-15 points.

I think i know what my problem is...I can't score with no other than with dunks, i only score few random 3 pointers and few 2 point throws. It's pretty clear when i watch the shot chart (or what ever it's called). I just don't know how long i'm supposed to hold the throw button...

I'd apreciate if you "pros" could help me up a bit and give me few tips how to score more effiently.

Thanks in advance.

When you shoot the basketball, you are supposed to let go at the top of your jump. Maybe you are just playing wrong, for example always shooting tightly contested shots. If you really want to, you can set shot control to cpu so you can just hold the shoot button and it will time it for you..

I suggest go into practice and just work on releasing on your jumpers. Also you could tweak the sliders to help your shooting, and lower the cpu shotblocking ability so you actually have a chance of getting a decent shot off.

When the CPU goes on a run you should try to cut it with timeouts... This actually works.

And try to get those open shots with moving the ball around. The open shots are quite easy to make. Almost the worst thing you can do in hoops is forcing your shot... Just shooting when you really shouldn't. When you move the ball around for a while there's usually someone left open or there's a big mismatch at some position.

The all-star is tougher and quite good level of competition...

If you have only after christmas discovered basket ball, you are in for a long lesson... There are so many moves and the game is closer to the real thing than ever before so you have to know your hoops to beat the AI in this game.

Enjoy this time while you are still losing games... It gets boring pretty fast when you win them all... Lives 95-2004...

Thanks for the replies.

I quess i'll go practise shooting a bit. I'll also get back to play at starter level  , though the cpu feels a bit easy on it.

I'm okay with loosing games, but i expect to improve while facing tough challenges. I've now played 10 games on the allstart level, won none :(

It just gets a bit frustrating when you can't shoot the baskets and the cpu does pretty well on them. I don't want to tweak the sliders so that i'd have advantage, i feel like i would cheat.

Few Q's :

When the cpu shoots, do you always jump when having a player in front of him. I seem to be a bit late when they jump (slow reactions :D).

Also how "free" has the player to be with who i attempt to shoot?

If you're a bit late, don't worry. You don't have to jump exactly at the same time. You can get a hand on his face just in time when he is about to release the ball.

And about how free, just shoot as long as you have at least a feet of an open space. And if the CPU doesn't contest the shot at all, it's almost automatically in (depends on your timing).
