Question about players ratings

I´ve been playing dynasty for a long time and I still have the same question.. what makes the players ratings go up or down? I had a dynasty with the Lakers in my 5th year and Kobe was at 99 and Lamar was at 88.. But I accidently ereased it so I decided to start a new one... I simulated a couple of seasons and Kobe´s rating drop from 95 to 90 
... Lamar´s dropped too but I can´t remember the actual rating.. Is it a random mechanism? or there´s something we can do to make the players rating go up (besides having training sessions with them, which really doesn´t improve them that much)?

Training does make thier ratings go up. I think after a certain age players ratings start to decline. Kobe's still young tho

But if you dont train them or keep them in shape or have them age, There stats will lower.... Or give them hamburgers!
