3 points shooting in a game

Tue Jan 04, 2005 3:00 am

I'm pretty new to NBA Live. Right now, I'm having problem with my 3 point shooting. I sink more 3s off the dribble than stationary. Let say I kick the ball out to a wide open shooting guard (Voshon Lenard)... he's gonna miss for sure! But if I crossover in front of a defender and shoot with the same guy... it's good!!! Same thing with Carmelo Anthony.

Am I doing something wrong? What about holding the turbo button has you take the shoot?

Thanks

Yes, it can help with momentum, and also help when a player is fatigued. i think it could be because the time you hold the button when a player is in your face compared to when a player is open. I tend to release earlier when shooting on a guy for obvious reasons, so you don't get blocked, so maybe when your open rlease earlier.

Try working on your standing 3's in practice mode

There could be many explainations for this, it is most likely that your timing of the release of the shoot button is not perfect, i usually let the ball go a little late, try experimenting in practice mode with different times of release.

Also remeber that you are much ore likely to hit the 3 when your team is on a scoring run, for instance if you getting defencive stops and nailing baskets at the other end, you chances of hiting the 3 are drastically improved.

I'm not sure abouit this one, but it's possible that different players are better at scoring 3's in different situations, i usually find that peja is great at hitting stationary 3s and fgs.

I do the same release all the time and still alwayts good. For some people (Big Men) Release early. BUt if its open Do Regular Perfect Shot.

Hold At (Or Right Before) Top of Jump. (Its not realistic in the game . Just Keep shooting them in practice mode and get your timing right! ). I havent had a Problem with 3 PT Shooting. Release same time always. Sometimes slightly less than a millisecond earlier (matters who im shooting with).

Sorry if i was unclear, what i mean by ''I usually let the ball go a little late'' is that this is one of my mistakes, not that i think releasing late improves your chances of scoring.

I agree, once you get the hang of it there you'll begin to instinctively know how to shoot threes in a game.

So I can make sure I got it right... can you give me a idea of how many 3 point you can hit out of 10 with a certain player in practice mode?

Ex : Approximately 8 out of 10 with Nash.

Thanks!

20/20 With Starbury.
15/15 Houston

18/20 Nash

17/20 T-Mac

15/20 Allen Iverson

12/20 Shaq ! THE BEST!

Got Damn it! He Figured me out.

Shaq is good. Release it early. LIke ive told many peoiple. You release early with Big Men (My friend does it to me in game with Ben Wallace lol). Just release early and watch the magic. Plus its Practice mode. Hell hit more due to No Gaurd.

remember my Thread? Shaqs the best 3 Point Shooter =\

Tue Jan 04, 2005 12:23 pm

I played a 1 on 1 game with Shaq and hit three 3's in a row
But I wouldnt trust him in a real game

Tue Jan 04, 2005 12:44 pm

Neither do i besides the mishap that Shaq looked like a Gaurd in one game

You maybe should decrease your 3pt slider?

I think you can only train the perfect release for one player not at all. The good players have their own 3pt style and therefore the motion sequence of the 3pt shoot is different which effects the release point.

You know every year I practice shooting in practice mode so I am sure I have the rhytm of the game down right. I still have shooters missing a lot of wide open shots during games. But yeah you gotta spend some time in practice though.

i know exactly what your saying about 3point shots missing when wide open and hitting when off the dribble.. even if you've practiced for hours and have the rhythm down...

i have a sorta 'conspiracy theory' about the computers defense programming...
i believe that even with the CPU Assistance OFF the computer still forces your shot to be at a lower percentage even with perfect timing so that the computer can make a comeback...

many times ive had wide open shots that miss and marv albert says thats great defense by "whoever" to put a hand in my face.... when in fact that defender was no where near me... which leads me to believe that the computer has put up some "contested shot" defense in its programming even if i didnt see it on screen

if you manage to burn the computer off the dribble it will let you have that and wont put the "contested shot" programming into affect....

i do remember reading somewhere that the designers/programmers wanted the game to be more of a midrange game instead of just dunk or just 3pointer like previous version.... meaning they want you to use the freestyle moves to get free into the midrange.... and i guess that explains getting shots in off the dribble

thats my crazy theories.... hehehe

I usually take 3-point opportunities when the player is stationary and had just received a pass. I've noticed that I almost always sink it when I use Devean George, but Kobe Bryant almost never gets it in (I've experimented with all sorts of release points). Bryant, however, always sinks if off the dribble.
