Does the game crash to the desktop? If so, are any error messages displayed?

I have tried to create a custom team myself. I want to share this information in the hope that we can put our heads together and figure out how to add custom teams.

You can create teams using present graphics, such as 95-96 Bulls or 03-04 Spurs. I tried two methods to create a new custom team.

1) I have tried adding .BIG files to the .VIV files in the FE folder. I used the 70 All Stars as a base. I renamed the files and hex edited some .EBO files. I also used the jersey raptor to add a new uniform. The "new" logos and graphics show in the various selection screens but the game crashes to desktop after loading 80%. Using non-custom teams still works.

2) I copied the .BIG files to the SGSM folder similar to adding player portraits. The game crashed to desk top after loading 80%. The error is "An exception 'Unhandled Win32 Exception' has occured in nba2005.exe."

themelloman5423,
You can add new teams just as you did for Live 2004. It requires adding players and teams to the various DBF files. Go here for a good tutorial : http://members.lycos.co.uk/nbaliveturkey/

I haven't actually tried adding teams to NBA Live 2005 yet, so I'm not aware of any changes since NBA Live 2004 apart from a couple of fields in the DBFs. I'll need to update my tutorial with NBA Live 2005 specific information once I successfully add a team.

Does the game crash if you completely over-write an existing team? That's how I did it last year. I just over-wrote the Denver Nuggets with my own custom team name and graphics. Will this method still work for this year? I haven't tried it yet 'cause I'm still working on my graphics.

Custom teams are much harder to create in Live 2005 than 2004. As near as I can tell, the problem is that the graphics are spread out all over the place and are dependent on object names matching up with the fields TEAMABR2 and TEAMABR4 in TEAMS.DBF.

For example, TEAMABR4 for team number 31 (All Stars West) is asnw. In sub-directory sgsm\uniforms is the asnwhome.viv file that contains the files for All Stars West home uniforms. Inside of the asnwhome.viv are more files like aswnhome_num.fsh. 2005 must use the "asnw" in TEAMABR4 to go looking for the graphics it needs.

So I overwrote various entries for one of the existing teams. In my case, I overwrote All Stars West (team number 31).

I was able to install custom graphics by overlaying existing graphics with my own graphics, as long as I overwrote the x2... and asnw... fsh files. But I couldn't find all of the graphics so I couldn't change everything I wanted to. Very frustrating. The end result I have is that I can play exhibition games ok, but the result looks half-assed, since it's half old graphics and half new graphics.

I haven't tried this with Season or Dynasty modes.

Hope this helps.
