beginner seeks help (med length post)

Mon Dec 27, 2004 7:48 am

Hi everyone,
So I just bought 2005 for the Xbox. It is my first experience with NBA live. I was wondering if there was a list of all possible freestyle moves somewhere. The manual doesn't have one, and the EA sports lounge says to check the EA site, which also doesn't have one that I could find. I think I have figured out some of the basic ones on offense - crossover and spin. The defense ones seem trickier. Putting the analog down seems to lower my arms to block the passing lanes, but that has no effect. I have never stolen the ball that way, while I have stolen is several times hitting the jump/block button while in the passing lane. Left and right on defense seems to attempt a steal. Up puts my hands up, but that seems to have little effect except avoiding the foul. Is there a complete list somewhere? Or perhaps even a beginners guide to some effective play? I know I can learn by playing more, but I would like to spend my play time more effectively.
Also (wrong forum maybe - flame away), when I try to trade players, the other team's interest bar in my player must be full? In all the players? Some of the players? Can I bribe them with a draft pick (if they have interest in it)? How much is the draft worth in terms of players (i.e. can I give them x players they don't like and a draft pick for someone I want)?
<edited to remove question i found answer to>
OK - sorry for all the newb questions. I know this is pretty long, so please answer just the first question (full list of freestyle moves for X-box controls) if you must pick one to answer.

Thanks in advance :)

This is an FAQ for NBA Live 2005. I dunno if this can help. Regardless of what system you're using, as long as you have a dual-analog gamepad, you're good to go:

http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file ... e_2005.txt

If you really wanna learn the game, go to the NBA Live 2005 website, yeah you're on the right track. Go to their DOWNLOADS or VIDEOS section and watch the movies there. Some are tutorials that teach you how you're gonna do it on your gamepad. Some are just videos that give you an idea of the possible moves of the game. But, yeah the best lessons are really through trial-and-error. A quickstart guide could just get you more frustrated.

You can also play an all-cpu game ang learn their moves.

I dunno much about trades, but the thing about trades when in Dynasty or Season mode is that teams get much interest when the trade deadline is almost over. Or perhaps, when you offer them players that have 20 or so rank points higher than the player you want with them. Of course, it's to your loss.

You may wanna wait for other forum members here to help you with the trades.

thanks curious

Thanks - I have already read though those faqs. I should have clarified that I found some help on the dunk stuff before posting. I also watched the videos at the EA NBA live spot. They gave direct advice on dunks and tip ins/rebounding. I'll try watching a CPU game. Maybe if I'm not so focused on moving around, I can observe more potential moves.

I found the freestyle hint/tips thing - thanks a ton!!
