Quick Plays With Gamepad

Is it possible?
As far as i understand, i can only use quick plays when using keyboard.
I've tried assigning keyboard buttons for quick plays while playing with the game pad but could not get it to work (pressing the keys gave me nothing).
and i couldn't figure out what the button playcalling is being used for...
SO - how can i use quick plays with my gamepad?
btw, it's Sidewinder Pro.
