I know most of you play dynasty, i do. Just wondering, how often do you do alley-oops in a game.
Me? i never do it. i more like to make more higher percentage layup or jumpshot than taking a very low percentage alley-oops.
maybe in my 25 games of playing, i only tried once or twice alley-oops.

i get like 3 or 4, of course i try like almost 10 times, but most of the times the computer steals it or it just goes out of bounds, but rarely do i have it blocked

I try an alley oop maybe once every two games or so, when I'm aware that my man is completely wide open and is set up for an excellent alley oop. It works. I'd never do an alley oop if two of my teammates are near the rim, because I can never figure out how the game decides which player is in better position for an alley oop.

I only use them when the opportunity is there or when I have a comfortable lead and want to spice things up a little. As cynaide mentioned, it's often difficult to direct the alley-oop to the correct player. Expanding Direct Passing to alley-oops would be a great idea for future Lives.

I use it quite a lot...
whenever someone "singals" you with lifting his arm or position his arms like he can get the ball... it's a 99% succesfull ally-oop!
they are some *random* situations too!
it's nice...just move 'till someone signals you...of course if you see you have wasted too much time on it... leave the idea...but usually you can get ally-oops quite easily!

You guys don't use alley-oops??? You're missing out on alot...
If you got the guys to do it, you should just go for it... In one dynasty I had LeBron playing point and I had Amare to man the power forward slot. Let's just say that half of LeBrons assists came off of alley-oops. Amare pushed them down with regularity and LeBron put good enough passes for it. In my other dynasties I have noticed that if you don't have the guys to do it, you really shouldn't, but once you get a super athletic dunking machine to work down low you should as it is surprisingly quite a hight percentage shot then. Almost never did I throw it out of bounds or had the CPU stop the pass... I got about 4-5 alley-oops in a game with LeBron and Amare... That was sweet. And it was on all-star difficulty. The only difficulty was seeing and timing the opportunities correctly, but once I got the handle on that it was like a walk in the park.
As I've noticed with many things in this game... If you have the guys to do something, you actually can... But if you don't have the guys for example good alley-oop duo, it is quite hard...

i alley oop less then once per game... i dont like the new feature (at least for xbox) that on the controllre alley oop is wen u hold down a certain button for 2 seconds or so... that takes my rhthym off, having to hold a button down for a couple seconds b4 he actually passes

i usually do it towards the end of the game when i have the game pretty much won! But if i spot an opportunity for one during the game, like a player making a cut towards the basket, then i will do it. maybe bout 1 or 2 per game!

i make those olly-oops quite a lot!
why? :
1)very easy:
A. only one button pressed, no need of directions either
B.all you need to do is wait(move while waiting...otherwise no-one will "open-up" for you...) 'till someone is singaling you by lifiting his arm up or pistitioning his arms like he is ready for a pass...then press the button...no matter how far away from the basket he is!!!
they are also some random situations which the other players won't doesn't signals for you when they happend...but you can understand he's open by yourself
2)if you get the ally-oop done like i explained in *B.* it's a 99% successfull! ...

more often then not when i try to lob to my open man near the basket, it will pass to the guy out on the wing and he'll look like a dumbass underhanding it towards the basket

I also alley-oop alot. Using the Suns it's quite easy to get either Amare or Marion(when at pf) free under the basket. I alley-oop about 2/3 times a game, sometimes in a very good game 6/7 times
Sat Dec 18, 2004 12:33 am
Yea I am usually conservative with my lobs unless i get alot of oportunities
Usually 3-5 times a game

Is it just me or does alley-oop not work anymore when controlling a player off-ball? I could swear that I used this to great effect in last year's version (Kidd to RJ, Kidd to KMart... you get the idea). I had Tim Thomas flying unhindered to the hoop via offball, but Stephon refused to toss him the ball, despite frantic, repeated mashing of the "white button" (XBox here). Arrrgh! I think I ended-up with a shotclock violation for my efforts.

I am not sure what it actually does...but i guess the "Off-Ball" button should help...
