DBF Editing Guides

Postby Andrew on Mon Dec 06, 2004 10:05 pm

As you might have seen already, I've updated the DBF Editing Guides for NBA Live 2005. Still some work to do with mapping some individual values for accessories and whatnot, but the guides will be updated.

You can find them all in the NBA Live 2005 section, but here they are individually for easy reference:

Players.dbf Editing
Appearance.dbf Editing
Teams.dbf Editing
Coaches.dbf Editing
Teamgear.dbf Editing
Teaminfo.dbf Editing
Location.dbf Editing

Team IDs
DUNKPACK Values
SCOREAREA Values
Colour Chart

Corrections, additions and all feedback most welcome. :)

This is a bug in the game. EA just released a patch that corrects this problem.

When editing the team.dbf, do the raw rebound, ballcontrol, scoring etc. override what the player's abilities are?

Hey guys
I recently downloaded the DBC Pro and went into my databses trying to change the information on some players that existed and some that I created
and what not. For some reason though, it seems to have no effect on
their ratings in the game. For example, the rating i put in through the
editor for players into the origdb/ currentdb/ and originaldb
players.dbf's NEVER show up in the game..i created myself in the game
and tried to test out putting Dr. J as my face and give myself a
different set of ratings from what I had initially entered in the game
while creating myself..but it makes no difference when i try loading
the rosters, as i still see the original attributes etc that i had put
in before(while creating him IN the game as opposed to modifying him
with the DBC Pro editor)...what do i need to do to fix this prob?
Thankx sooo much for your help.

Mujir: It's best to save a roster file and edit the files in the appropriate save folder. It's easier to reload the changes that way.

Scossy: I believe they do, but they in turn will be overwritten by the player's ratings when you edit a player, even if it's just to change his gear.

Hi Andrew,
I did make changes to saves/players.dbf but even then, when i reload the rosters, the changes I make still are not showing in the game...any ideas as to what may be going on?

Not really...I don't have any problems using DB Commander. Once you finish making changes to the files in saves/rostersavename (where rostersavename is the roster's saved file name ;)), close DB Commander, start the game and load the rosters from Load/Save. The changes should be reflected in the game.

Andrew,
In the Appearane DBF Editing Info - NBA Live 2005 you say that the Overallrtg is calculated by the game. Well, I thought that if I changed individual ratings fo players the game would calculate a new overall rating, but it didn´t happen when I made the changes, I tried it on the NLSC 405 players save and on my own dinasty players save. When I load anyone of the two the new rating values for the players appears, but the overall doesn´t change. When the game calculates the new overall rating?

The game automatically recalculates the ratings when you make changes from within the game. If you make the changes in the dbf, you'll need to go to the edit player screen and modify a player again (say, go to his ratings, change a rating, change it back, save the changes and exit...I think doing anything in there will cause the game to recalculate the overall, actually), the new overall rating will be displayed.

Go to the last record in the database and press Down on the keyboard - that's the quickest way.

I think the players.dbf guide can be made a little more complete if you add the following (I've mentioned this in an earlier thread):
In franchise, undrafted rookies are placed in the players.dbf, some will be drafted the following year and some are erased. To go with all the attributes of the upcoming rookies the game also has determined their ratings. These ratings aren't the exact ratings the rookie will have, but are a base for which the game makes the actual ratings. (A rookie with 80 3pt rating the year before the draft might have a rating of 78 or 84 in his rookieyear, but in any case a high 3pt rating.)
These ratings aren't in their usual ratingcolomns but have been placed between PBLOCKS and CPASSISTS.

Good idea, some footnotes might make the guides a little more useful. Thanks Ripper. (Y)

Yes you can. Basically, you create a new player, then edit his attributes so that he isn't created and he uses the cyberface of your choice - basically the same as installing a cyberface patch, except you use a PLAYERPKG that's already in the art files.

Thank you for your reply, but I haven't solve the problem.
I want creat a player who have the FACE of LeBron James.
I created a new player and edit his attributes except the FACE,then I save and exit nba2005.I open the player.dbf file and change the value of PLAYERPKG to LEJAMES,save and run nba2005.When I went into the "Edit Player" in the game and click the player I have created, the screen stoped at the Loading page and the game is not active.Could you tell me why?

Thank you!

You need to change his FACEID to -1 and his ISCREATED value to False.

Sorry, I have no idea. If you've created a player, they should appear in players.dbf and appearance.dbf, with the PLAYERID and APPEARID matching up.
