Crashes upon startup part 2

Ok, I have narrowed my problem down to my controller. I use a psx to usb converter so I can play with my ps2 controller. Whenever I unplug the usb and try to run the game it works perfect. However, If I unplug the controller and start the game... of course the game wont recognize the controller...

Any ideas??
The adapter is a Dragon double power box 2

game works fine... I got a different ps2 to usb converter from radio shack for 10 dollars and it works fine with the game.... in case anyone was having same problem.
