If y'all like Live 2005...holla here !

Hey ppl...it seems that a lot of us are just going on and on and on abt what NBA Live 2005 doesnt do for us.

While i dig what many feel and respect individual opinion.. I believe that this is definitely a step forward from the folks at EA...and this release of NBA Live aint half as bad as Gamespot' Bob or the others who are disappointed make it out to be.

Personally..I've got both live and ESPN..and i gotta tell you..for me there was just no question..the animations are sweet !..Marv and Tom whoop ESPN a$$..the Dynasty beats the Association and GAMEPLAY has a much more involved feel to it in NBA live..its a no brainer folks. Live 2005 is my game.

Yes there is definitely scope for imporovement..yes the camera angle is a pain..yes lighting is an issue..but i game for gameplay..Live does that for me. Period. (Y)

If there are any of you out there who feel the same let it be known ppl ! We're drowning out whatever is good abt this release with our cribbin.

peace.

hokay..i will defer to your seniority as far as posts go..not that makes much of a difference OR is relevant to the post. So..you wanna let me know whatchu think or just flame me in general ?!

Just use regular english without stupid slang words, it's very annoying to me (and others) on forums here at the nlsc, and over at nbalive.org.

I have no problem with you, just your choice of words.

I'll disagree with your opinion on how good the gameplay is. I haven't seen your reasons why the gameplay is top notch, but I backed up my reasons with my review (in my sig).

Thu Nov 04, 2004 2:02 am

GAMEPLAY has a much more involved feel to it in NBA live

here's a good reason that was mentioned.

Thu Nov 04, 2004 2:24 am

I disagree with Sublime, but I couldn't care less about "ghetto" speak. I don't find it annoying at all. Play enough real bball and it seems as normal as "English". :D

Weird, my review clearly states a sense of detachment from this year's Live. Your opinion still doesn't explain why it is a good reason. In other words, why do you feel that this year's gameplay has a much more involved feel to it?

Thu Nov 04, 2004 4:33 pm

cyanide..i did read your review when you had put first put it up on the 2nd...and while i did agree to some of what you said...
quote:
Conclusion
We've seen a number of nice additions and improvements such as the dunks, the net, blocking, no-look passing, the defensive AI and animations. Even though this game has enormous potential, there is a serious problem with gameflow, particularily with passing and the high number of jump shot blocks. The game lacks a sense of urgency where players appear indifferent to the game, and the inability to save settings and limited playcalling make the user feel disconnected from the game. These issues hurt the replayablility of NBA Live 2005, and I would not put this year's version ahead of Live 2000 or Live 2004 in terms of gameplay. Although EA improved the dynasty mode and made a huge addition with the All-Star Weekend, I feel they overlooked too many elements in gameplay. I give NBA Live 2005's gameplay a 6.2/10. ......or click HERE
:unquote

the problem with the gameflow you mentioned..i'll associate with fast breaks (i hope thats what you meant)... for me i have triggered fast breaks on the fly evn on a three on two break..i just double tap my directional pass button and the fast break animations on the run do kick in...its not only on a steal...

As for the inablilty to save your controller config on PC..and your play sets...i actually use that as a "silly" (i guess you could call it that :wink: ) pre-game strategy i give myself..i know what my opponent likes to do... say vs the mavs i assign a totally different set of "on the fly" defensive plays than i would if i was to play the spurs..its just me making the most of what you see as a hitch i guess. Offensive sets i know only a few...a little more than the standard pick and roll/basket cut etc..but not in elaborate detail...i use them only once in a while..

..and like you said in the end.."click HERE" and download a new set of sliders and gameplay improves..that addresses your jump shots/blocked shots and a whole lot of other stuff....

i'd like you to understand that what i feel for Live is just my opinion...AND since i have ESPN as well..relative to what ESPN has offered me...(now if i felt animated play diags were a clincher you wouldnt see me on this board !! I'd be in the other basketball games section blowing ESPNs horn !)

ESPN has just not got the pushing and shoving and "involvement" of a team game that basketball truly is (mebbe its just the motion cap)...NBA Live does. guys there stand around for a bit (look pretty good while doing it as well) and then realise that they are in a ball game and the whole thing feels bloody tacky.dats all...call me a fanboy..but Live rules for me.

'nuff said...hope you've got where i'm coming from.
peace

Live 05 is my Pic 2. I love it

Thu Nov 04, 2004 10:56 pm

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I also have both games and really tried to play ESPN but the gameplay was kind of silly. The game motion of the players without the ball is kind of .

Tell you why I pic Live 05

* The players really move realisticly without the ball and create open
shots for themselves. You got to find the open man. I enjoy drawing
dbleteams and dishing to the open man and it looks beautifull.

* All the new animations:

* The no look pass underneath the basket
* The leaner after the pump fake
* The running animationwhile receiving the pass. (Still think they should
of used it
more often to help fastbreaks for both user and CPU)
* The rebound animations
* The post dble fake
* The post movement and options over all
* The different layup animations are great to
* The jump shots are good looking too
* The Tipins
* The put backs
* The steal and interception animations are preaty cool too
* The long pass animation
* Some new dunk animations

* The PDA is Great for us who are not freaks of the Dynasty. Cause
well it helps a lot.

* When fast breaks do happen it feals so goooood

* The all star weekend in the Dynasty is very cool as you have to
perform well to get invited to the events

* The events of the allstar weekend are all fun.

* The simulation intervention is great. Depending on the amount of time
you have to play, you can simulate any amount of quarters

* Now injuries are for real and affect the teams greatly when a key player
goes down

* What I like the most is the difficulty of the game. You can no longer
beat the crap out of the CPU on Superstar every single time. At least
not the first month or so

Live has improved a whole lot from last years version. Yes it does have some mayor and minor bugs as all games do. But still this is the best BBAll game outthere for the people who love the play realistic NBA. If you don,t like the reality of the game being difficult then go play NBA Street or ESPN or all the other more Arcadish games out there.

Don,t get me wrong

I still think EA should FIRE the guy whos in charge of the Live Team for letting go so many little silly easy to fix bugs (Maybee I can do the quality control for them. Call me EASPORTS). But still the best dam Realistic Basketball Game in the Market.

Fast Breaks

What do you mean by directional pass button and what system are you playing live in ?????????

Thu Nov 04, 2004 11:46 pm

Heavenly, I play on a PS2...and by directional passing..i actually mean the pass to icons button..it defaults to R2 on a standard PS2 controller...if you hold R2 down it will give you the respective icons above players so that you can pick who you want to pass to...if you double tap the same button however the player with the ball will zip it to whoever is furthest ahead on court and the receiving player will catch it in his stride.. and you can execute the fast break..hope that helps...

cheers mate.

the title clearly states that if you like 2005 you should post in this section.
hell, thats what im doing...sticking up for the creator of this post.

personally i LOVE the game. I can get over the fact there isnt a lot of new commentary, or the fact i cant save my controller config, or even that there is no diagrams of playsets (seriously though, WTF??!!).

but i wont end up like a lot of people on this forum and turn into a little bitch. If we ask EA for things...and they give them to us, cut them some fucking slack. Issues from previous LIVE's seem to get fixed the next year, so i just go with the flow. And if you think EA is sooooo unreliable and unable to give you a quality product - STOP BUYING THE GAME!

shit, there is a hell of a lot of EA ass whooping on this forum (and yes i know forums are a place to have discussions on issues and the like), and i'd actually be surprised if they put out a new game next year for PC with all the bitching about it, they might just tell us all to go FUCK ourselves.

my two cents.

Fri Nov 05, 2004 5:20 am

or the fact i cant save my controller config

You should be able to do that, its works fine for me.

Fri Nov 05, 2004 5:30 am

sorry, i can save the config....i meant having to reselect my config every time i play a new game (no user saves) :)
my bad.

I didn't know about that. I thought it was the alleyoop button on the defensive end, but it was still an alley-oop button. I'll give that a try, then I'll revise my review.

EDIT: Like normally, tapping on the direct pass button just passes it to the player closest to the basket. Tapping it twice does not do anything different.

Cool, I guess your style of play is different from mine, but I respect that. For me, I prefer to have my own plays the way the Jackson-era Bulls and Lakers ran the triangle.

..and like you said in the end.."click HERE" and download a new set of sliders and gameplay improves..that addresses your jump shots/blocked shots and a whole lot of other stuff....

The sliders do help, but it doesn't fix the problems. The blocks happen very frequently even if the sliders are set at zero.

i'd like you to understand that what i feel for Live is just my opinion...AND since i have ESPN as well..relative to what ESPN has offered me...

I respect your opinion, but I tend to be more critical especially since I feel they took away a lot of important elements from last year (such as quicker responsiveness to passing). I don't have any console systems, so PC is my only option. Thanks for your comments :) take care.

No offense, but this is a message board, and debates are open to members. Nobody should be barred from posting regardless of subject.

We ask EA for things to ensure brand loyalty and to help them to make a better basketball game than the previous version. If nobody complains about the game, do you think EA is going to think that their game doesn't need any more improving? They make money off of us, so we have the right to give feedback, critical or positive. I'm aware the last year's version issues are fixed, but myself and other members, are aware that they have completely overlooked many other elements that were in the game last year. That means we have more issues this year than last year's version. And to tell us to stop buying the game -- that's what EA is afraid of.

shit, there is a hell of a lot of EA ass whooping on this forum (and yes i know forums are a place to have discussions on issues and the like), and i'd actually be surprised if they put out a new game next year for PC with all the bitching about it, they might just tell us all to go FUCK ourselves.

So you acknowledge that forums are a place to discuss, yet you think this thread is restricted to praise? ;) Anyway, like I said, constructive criticism is only going to make this game improve, and as a result EA will make better sales and more profit. And if we all try to avoid being "little bitches," we might just end up not buying the game next year :D

Fri Nov 05, 2004 4:45 pm

yeah i do acknowledge that forums are good for talking about ways to improve the games we all play. but i stand by the fact that this thread was titled in a way that i would think only people with positive things to say about the game would post in it. not trying to be a forum hitler or anything :wink: , its just that there are enough negative threads already.

and no place in my post did i say that people should be barred from posting in a thread...it just seems that some people want arguments.

again, back to the title of the thread...i myself wouldnt go into a thread thats bagging out LIVE (yes i read them to see other people opinions), but i do not post in there that i LOVE the game cos i respect the posters opinion and the fact they want to know if other people agree.
that being said...would you go into a chinese restaurant and indulge yourself in a sit-down meal the tell people that you dont like chinese food?

cyanide, i did read your review...and i liked it...im all for people talking openly about the games they like and how they want them fixed, but i aint gonna be railroaded into thinking like someone else, nor will expect anyone to think like me.
:)
I love 2005, i loved 2004, i loved 2003 etc.
cos at the end of the day, its only a game...if i want realistic bball, i'll go play or watch some.
