If these are the only cards you can choose from these are the best two.

hi bishibashiboy. i want to upgrade my GF4 fx5200 but dont know which one to get, a R9600 PRO 256MB or a ati radeon 9600 XT which is $50 more. i mostly play live 2005 and sometimes, madden, C&C Generals, warcraft. which one would be best for me.

Xt is faster than the pro. The extra 128mb of memory doesn't make much of a difference for this card.
If you think $50 is worth it for the extra performance than go for it. Personally i would but try to find it a bit cheaper. The difference between PRO and XT is not $50 (i'm assuming USD here). Also, I hope your computer is decently fast (~2Ghz) or you would see very little benefit upgrading from your Fx5200.

my system spec is AMD athlon XP2000, 1GB DDR266 RAM, $1 USD is about $1.50 New zealand dollars. and the 9600pro is $200 and the 9600XT is $256. so would i be better off to get XT instead of the pro. becoz i can play live05 just fine, its just that i have to lower bench details, crowd animation off to get faster gameplay. my screen resolution is set at 1024x768.

Yeah get the XT.
It's not that big a difference if it's only around $37 USD.
