Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

Using Catwoman engine is one major flaw this year

Postby gut on Thu Oct 28, 2004 12:17 pm

Graphically, NBA Live 2004 is better than 2005.

the graphics of 2005 are very blurry and the textures are less detailed.

the lighting effect on the players and the ball are strange. (we all noticed long time ago)
the cyberfaces, jerseys and shoes textures are bad.
moreover, i think that the number of polygons MAYBE less than last year.

Actually the overall ingame graphics are worse than 2004.

here are some examples (pay attention on the shoes & jersey):

2004

http://gallery.flyupsky.net/albums/userpics/10001/nbalive2004/screenshot0012.jpg

you are able to see the details of the jersey & shoes, even though it's just a small NBA logo on the jersey, it's clear.

Let's see the 2005 screens

IMO, NBA Live 2005 is graphically the worst in this series.
(in comparing of the graphics development at that moment),
Live 95 ~ 2004 is the pioneer graphically, they are 1000 times better than other games at the same time.

I am quite disappointed this time.

of course, gameplay rules the game.
but still, the major bugs are still there (and I've found another BIG bug...)

Hope EA will release a patch later.

in additions, the crowd is bad even though it's in HIGH detail.

according to the above screens.

you are able to see the faces of the crowd in 2004 but blank faces in 2005.

I hadn't really paid any attention to the cyberfaces, but when I finally fired-up the 3pt contest, I watched the intros and was aghast at the AWFUL faces. Really, they are terrible! I was very disappointed. I swear the Steve Nash looks like "Chucky" from the horror movies when viewed from a certain angle. <shudder>

I'm so disappointed ... I have been waiting for this game forever and the graphics suck so bad that I'm having problems playing it ... I just played 2004 the other night still working on a franchise and it looks SO much better than 2005 ...they could have just made the game lik 3 discs to make up for all the new modes and features they added in order to keep the graphics

about the only thing I'm gonna do is play the Dunk contest

I agree. The players actually have less of an athletic build than they do in real life, but at least it's not as bad the steriod hungry players of ESPN's. The super highlights (very white glare) on the players are really terrible and I think the Live team really went overboard with the "whiteness" and "highlights" that you see in the in-game menus and the camera flashing in your eyes everywhere. I'm disappointed with Steve Nash's cyberface. I have never seen hair integrated within somebody's head, which is pretty funny. At least they got Larry Bird's hair right this time (but not his face, holy bleep!)

sad thing is that the texture sizes (for the cyber faces atleast) were far larger back in nba live 2000 than they have been for the last 3 versions.. I personally blame the ps2 and its popularity.. since its dominance of the industry the PC has been getting hand me down ports that make this pc gamer cringe.. I look at doom 3 and far cry running on my x800 pro and I dream of what should be.. cyber faces on this years version of nhl are damn nice though..

pc gamers wont be getting the graphics we deserve in an nba live game until the release of the ps3

main problem as i see it this year is that the hair is shaded the same the rest of the body.. looks ok on the bald guys but when u have ppl with hair and uniform shading of the face and hair it just looks weird.. last year the rendering was too matte.. this year i think the light intensity is too high.. what it needs is more reflectiveness (not as much as espn).. some normal mapping would be nice too :D

The shoes in 2005 look terrible... :?

But one thing for sure is we know EA listens to us a little. We did say before working on the graphics we should work on the gameplay, but then again we never said make them worse...

Yeah I found the same thing when I ran it at 1024X768, but when I up'd it to the next resolution, the graphics weren't blurry. Still, it sucks that you can't get at least as good graphics as 2004 on the lower res.

My major gripe is that the cartoony animations totally take away from the gameplay...but I've only played it a few times so far, so I'll give it a chance.

Thats is only on the PC version. On the Ps2 Version they may be blury but the faces are in fact a lot better than 2004. You get used to the graphics when you play it for a while, so overall the graphics are better on the ps2 Version than last year. I cant say the same for the pc but im thinking they did not put as much effort into it as lasy year.

What major bugs are there? Are you talking about exploits in the gameplay?

NBA Live 2005 doesn't look great because your videocard may be outdated.
