first impressions LIVE 05'

Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

first impressions LIVE 05'

Postby 50first on Thu Sep 30, 2004 6:30 am

to be honest the game feels like its been rushed... makes me wonder if releasing it in mid october would have been helpfull. maybe its the system i chose to play it on this year (gamecube in 05.. pc in 04), but i feel a bit dissappointed. the replays are smooth as butter in all modes of the game but the realtime frame rate is straight booty. it stops me from getting into it, and the sad thing is i had no expectations going into LIVE 05', but these jerky animated players give me the blues :miserable: . as of now i find it unrelaxing... hopefully you ps2 and xbox players aren't having the same probs.

im not feeling this game at all.

they put in defense to drop the affectivness of the pro hop.

so now you can't use it when somebody is in front of you.

then when am I s'possed to use it?

i hope I'll get more into as I play more.

but right now I want my $15 back.

you must be one of the people that can't play realistic. nobody will pro hop when someone is guarding them because in live 04, the player would just slide back. so im glad they took that out, and im glad the 2 footer is easy to block so all those cheap players cant player cheap

I haven't really gotten into the game that much. but so far it's pretty good. I like the new layout for the dynasty mode, esp. the schedule screen. I'm really glad that all the players look like (or similar) to the real life counterpart. The gameplay was there last year, just needed some tweaks here and there. I was mainly concerned with the graphics and etc. Since that which we don't speak of (espn) was blowing our asses outta the water. They put in all the jerseys I wanted (93-94 home pacers) and more. The store layout is pretty sweet but I'd think the screen would revolve around the walls so you could see everything clearly without selecting it. I am upset that there isn't any user profiles, and I don't belive any EA bio either. But all in all it's straight (so far) I'll probably write an official review in a month or two. By the way EA used one of my ideas from this board, the ability to select if you want to retire a players jersey or not. Pretty cool EA.

I have the GameCube version and I haven't had as much problems as you said. Do you zoom out full in press box mode?

Like they say...BEST LIVE EVER!

I have a gamecube and i had Live04 for it last year, but i am going to sell the cube now because i think the controller isn't good. It's really hard to use when you want to back down and do a hook shot (Every gamecube player knows what i am talking about)...

I plan to get Live05 for PSTWO(not PS2) and PC this year. Anyway good to read you guys' review, I am looking forward to get this game on Oct 29th in UK.

:P

BEST LIVE EVER!

they changed shooting to x. I find this much easier than last year. In fact, it's not hard at all to do hookshots...

It's much easier to do with PS2 and XBox, but with GameCube, it's horrible. The back down button is one of the face buttons on gamecube controller, so you have to press two face buttons at the same time in order to do a hookshot. That is horrible and that's the reason why I rarely do hookshots in 2004 (the hookshot animation is ugly anyway).

The back down button is the Y and the shoot is the x...back when it was B it was harder.
I don't know, I just don't find it hard...maybe it's cuz I played live 2004 a shitload.

play either in basline low or press box (both on default zoom)... its just bad. spent an entire second half playing in jerky slow motion. :( and the dunk contest and 3-point challenge gets choppy as well. do the jumbo trons work in the dunk contest? they just show a star and nothing else.

What happened?

Postby Dewaco on Fri Oct 01, 2004 2:04 am

Here i was all excited about receiving my gamecube version of live 05, i pre ordered, payed in full and my spine tingled when i recieved that call from EBgames to come pick it up. I rushed over to the mall and got my copy. I skipped class and went straight to my 'cube to begin what i was sure would be a life altering experience........
Precisely 57 minutes later i was back at EB with my copy of Live in my hand....What went wrong you ask?
It became apparent after playing my Gamecube version of live that i was shortchanged. My roommate has the game on XBOX and it is phenomenal, but the gamecube version........
The frame rate was apalling, the graphics were sloppy, it was just as if the game was designed only to run on XBOX and nothing else. Whilst ranting to my EB sales rep i was joined by a PS2 owner with the same complaints..........
WORD OF WARNING: EITHER BUY IT ON XBOX OR NOT AT ALL!!!!!
(at least until the PC version comes out)

I've never had problems with the dunk contest or 3 pt contest though.
I have had some problems with the main game, but not bad enough to make me complain.
Well nothing's going to convince me to buy an xbox or ps2. I have some deep hatred against those consoles.

50, I think it has everything to do with your console of choice. My younger brother bought a Gamecube last christmas when they dropped the price and I played it for about 2 months or so. I grew up on Nintendo's titles and was eager to give it another twirl, frankly I was disappointed. Mario Kart especially was what I was most looking forward to and it disappointed me much like Live 2002 did.

I couldn't even imagine using that weird controller to play virtually any sports game let alone Live. Ever think about trading it in and adding a few $$$ to get an XBox? You won't be sorry in the least my man... :)

well i got live today, haven't exactly played it yet but i was the first one to get it from that particular store/area.. anyways i had class at 8 in the morning and i got out at 10.. i made plans to go to EB to trade in my broken playstation and what not.. so i go there, give them my playstation and they gave me $75.00 store credit.. so then i asked them when live and espn are gonna come out.. and the guy was like oh half an hour, you can stick around and wait if you want.. so i stuck around and talked to the guy.. during that half an hour, im not joking at least 30 people phoned asking the release dates for live/espn (mostly espn).. the guy was so pissed, it was hilarious he was cussing everytime he hung up on the phone.. but yep 30 mins later some guy wearin shorts and ups socks comes in and makes the delivery and i got the game.. for FREE  i still have 20 bucks or so left in my store credit so im gonna blow that on espn.. jesus i love life.

*edit* k maybe i dont love life, i'm not really feelin the game right now it seems kinda slow.. i love the new animations though, especially the drop step.. but im havin a really hard time playin a team game.. i have to isolate rasheed w/ lamar odom most of the time

How could you be disappointed at mario kart? I played that game like 9999 hours or so! 0_0 (Unless you only played it single player, since I NEVER played single player for mario kart.)

I've never ever EVER thought of getting a xbox. And don't call me a kid because I am NOT a kid. (+20)
I hate when people recommend me or say to buy an xbox. You might have not meant it that way,(plus probably meant to say it to 50first) but there are way too many xbox fanboys that keep on saying "XBOX ROXORZ!! DAH SHIZNIZZZ" or something like that as if it's a religion.

NIntendo has its great games (Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros), but if you want the best NBA Live experience on a console, Xbox looks to be the best option. Where does your hatred for Xbox and PS2 come from, by the way? Is it the price?

you couldn't be more wrong. honestly I hate folks like you because you never really know what you're talking about. I'm tryna type this with out calling you a ass so imma make this short.

this game is too loose. the pro hop is a move to get through tight situations. it's a fun game for the most part but it falls far short of the it's goal of being a sim.
