5 things that MUST BE FIXED

Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

5 things that MUST BE FIXED

Postby JL2 on Sat Sep 25, 2004 8:46 am

1. ) Insufficient Disk space crap - this has happened in 2004 and 2003. How can you have insufficient space to save when we're in the age of 120GIG HD's?

2.) In Game save - how freakin' hard is this to program? All the game has to do is save the player stats up to that point in time. When the program loads the game again, the player stats are there and you continue from that point forward. Same identical stuff as between game saves. I thought each year was supposed to be an improvement; why take away an important feature 4 years ago? While you're at it, let's revert back to the 4 pixel Lakers v. Celtics player graphics.

3.) Invisible force field - bouncing off defenders. Ridiculous.

4.) Skating around the court - the guy's legs move 15 times and he moves 1/2 inch. Nothing kills a simulation like horrid animation. What's worse is when the guy's legs are walking in the straight direction and his body actually goes backwards.

5.) Facing the hoop. On offense, there is no way whatsoever to get the dribbler to face away from the basket (i.e. driving from corner baseline to top of key) He'll be backing up all the way. This looks ridiculous. This is most obvious in 1 on 1 mode.

Some more:

1. Fix retarded substitution patterns, as evident in Rockets-Spurs game.

2. Offensive goaltending off the rim is NOT a block. Again, refer to Rockets-Spurs game.

3. Announcer should say CAP's last name, if the name already exists in the game.

4. We should be able to edit the legend teams.

This is stuff that should be easy to fix or put in the game, but for whatever reason EA didn't do it last year and it looks like they didn't do it for 2005 either.

I thought this was already in Live? I'm pretty sure it is.

I wonder why no one has brought up in any of the interviews with the Live developers.

Things they definitely need to add/fix next year:

 Trade Block: The ability to shop your players and to see who is being shopped is a very nice feature they should add

 MLE, LLE: Apparently, they are not in this years version of the game. These are vital to being able to add quality players when you are above the cap.

 contract extensions/buy-outs: You should be able to negotiate -- regardless if the team or agent approaches you -- a contract extension with players you want to keep around before their deals expire. Also, you should be able to buy-out a deal, but of course still have a cap penalty.

 Free throw shooting: Obviously, this may be fixed this year, but it is just ridiculous when you can't get to the line and there are almost no fouls in a game. If you have a Shaq, AI, Kobe, T-mac, P-dub...etc, those guys go to the line 7-10 times a game and it should be reflected.

 Designation of rotations and 6th men: It would be pretty badass to be able to set your rotations and have the comp follow them about right (say, you want to bring in your 6th man with 3 min to go in the 1st quarter. The first play stoppage in that time frame would result in him being put in.) and also to designate your 6th man so you don't have to hope the guy you always bring in first off the bench gets recognized for consideration for the award.

 Have career stats: self explanatory.

 Add more ratings: They should make seperate ratings for FG's and mid-range shots. Have an upside rating or indicator to let you know how much potential you are going on. It could be on a scale of 1-10. 10 being superstar, 9 star, 7-8 good player 4-6 average player, under 4 fringe player.

Also, have a trade value rating. It would take into account both upside rating and overall rating. So for instance, if you wanted to trade for T-Mac, you'd obviously have a difficult time getting him. So his trade value would be, say, 220 (overall) with an upside requirement of 21. And the only way those requirements can be waived is if players have a similar overall rating and their trade value is similar (trade value would appreciate and depreciate with age) like, say if someone offered a Kobe Bryant or a Ray Allen....etc

 Rookie heights: Stop making so many 6'1, 6'2, and 6'3 shooting guards. Have some, but have more 6'5-6'7 guys.

They changed it so there will be more foul calls but based on the collision, so if it's real obvious it should be called, but I heard somewhere that Shaq for example was being hacked up...

Well those can wait next year. We should be happy and enjoy this game, and then the developers can focus on those for next year's version!

They are not going to put all the stuff they need into one game bc they would have no room for i rovement so therefore they would stop making the live games.I can understand where u are coming from but just hold your horses.....b4 u know it it will be NBA Live 2020(I can see it now  )someday there wil be the ultimate live but intill then u can just be happy with what u got

Might have over-reacted

Postby JL2 on Wed Sep 29, 2004 5:41 am

But it seems that EA gives and takes away each season. The changes I'm proposing were perfected in previous seasons but then removed for some stupid reason. It's not so much lack of advancement I'm upset about - it's regression. If you perfect something, take a poll and move on to correcting other things that aren't polished. But to remove the Save game feature, make people's legs fly 50 times per second (NBA Live 2003 had it perfect!), and to have defenders move at lightning speed to get back in your face is a backward movement.

Somebody working there should really figure out what the gamers want - (no ghetto menu fonts and graffitti like in Live 97)

Good point. I always wonder about that. Every year, having an in-game saving feature is one of the most popular requests and every year since 2000 (where they DID have this feature), they disappoint us. Even if it might be a little thing to implement, it is a big, useful thing to us. A website reported that EA sold 20 million units of NBA Live 2004 last year, and I read that the workers at EA spend time playing NBA Live (when they should be working), so obviously they have the money and resources to fix the little things that matter to us. I'm a critic when it comes to little things like these, but I do appreciate the improvements that EA brings to us despite some minor gripes I have about the game.
