Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

Hey all,
Am I the only hardcore nut that plays all 82 games of each season on like 10 minutes or so a quarter?? on superstar?
I play on average about 1 game a day. Maybe more if on holidays or something. I usually get a few seasons in then right before the new version comes out I just mess around and sim.
I like playing all the games so I know i got the team where it is, and things like all star weekend are much sweeter when you get there.... not to mention the playoffs.

I don't have the time and the statistics get weirdly distorted through playing all the games. You can basically get a 75-7 season and get almost all the awards if they were given to the right people. Especially the Most Improved Player is always WAY off. 6th man is sometimes off too.
Also in Live 2004, you couldn't get a guy in the MVP candidates if he didn't have a high overall. Even if he was pushing similar numbers.
But, this is all in the past... I'm looking forward to the future now...

No, I always choose 50 + games at 7 minute quarters. I don't do 82 because I lack the patience to do so and play 7 minutes because it gives me the most realistic NBA score...
Fri Sep 17, 2004 5:02 pm
hell no!!! i play 2003, but still, barly 15 games a season with 5 min quaters
Fri Sep 17, 2004 7:10 pm
I like to play at least one 82 game season plus playoffs (7-7-7-7 format, or 5-7-7-7 back in the day) per year. I don't always have time to play every day, but some weekends I might be able to get five or six games when I have nothing else to do, and as such I can usually stay ahead of the real season and finish an 82 game season within a year. I always play 12 minute quarters for the 82 game unsimmed Dynasty.
I generally play other Dynasties though, simming here and there playing important games and the playoffs.
Fri Sep 17, 2004 9:41 pm
I play all the games aswell.
Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:29 am
I just play the 82 game season once or twice.
But other times, I just play a few games in the season but play all the playoff games.
Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:59 am
I play all 82 games and playoffs. Simming (is that a word) might mess up my averages.
Sat Sep 18, 2004 2:09 am
i play 82 games too...bu hwen i have th etime
Sat Sep 18, 2004 4:21 am
With the new live, I think I'll do 12 minute quarters and just play the last quarter! Fun Stuff!
I've tried playing 82 games...but man that's hard..
Sat Sep 18, 2004 4:39 am
I played 82 games once on 10 min quarters in Live 2003 on PSX. I've got the shortest attention span, I made about 900 trades through the season and by the All-Star game 90% of both rosters were made up of current or ex Memphis players
Sat Sep 18, 2004 7:19 am
Now in live 05 you will have to play more. I will play the 4th quarter of all 82 games. Probably a 5 minute quarter, but maybe 12. You can't sim all season or you will miss the emails that come, the trades and stuff. The owner comments. And playing will give you dynasty points which will have use this year.
Sat Sep 18, 2004 7:21 am
LOL i bet it's going to be fun to starting the 4th quarter as bobcats, down by double digits almost every time, trying to comeback on superstar mode. hehe i cant wait.
Sat Sep 18, 2004 7:29 am
I usually chose the 28 game season, or this year it will be 29 because of the Bobcats. I play every game by hand so my average are what I did, not the computer. I set the playoffs to 7-7-7-7. I like it this way because it's still long enough to have fun, and I get start drafting rookies and changing my team up.

82 games is a long ass time. I can see why Shaq sits out 20-something games a season.

The simulation intervention is probably going to encourage people to choose 82 game seasons as it offers a better means of simulating games you don't really feel like playing. I'd like to see this feature expanded in the future, too; the ability to start a game, sim bits and pieces or a whole quarter or the rest of the game, jumping in wherever - basically stopping and starting the simulation whenever you like.
Sat Sep 18, 2004 3:38 pm
Yeah ANdrew... for the first time ever, I'll choose an 82 game season in dynsaty... thanks to the game intervention scheme. Also depends on how improved the simulation engine is....
But- i dont know... for my dynasty... do u think it'd be more practical to jump into games where ur up/down by a little, or up/down by a lot?
I'm thinking I'll only jump into games where the margin is max 10.... Just so that I stay interested in the game!

I guess it would depend on what kind of challenge you were after. If your playing style doesn't really allow you to come back from 30 points down, you might not want to jump in and finish the game yourself unless you want to do some stat padding.
Depending on how your team has played, you might not trust the simulation engine to give you the win, even with a 10 point advantage, so you might jump in. The choice is yours, giving you a new decision to make and new challenge to face. It was an excellent idea to bring this concept over to the NBA Live series (I believe MVP Baseball was the first game to introduce the feature?).

Absolutely correct Andrew, MVP was the first to introduce this feature. With the ability to jump in if you're down by ten as you mentioned it's almost like we have situation mode. Yet another example of EA Canada answering the call when it comes to improving the Live franchise. Those guys impress me more and more when I learn about what they have in store for us......

I don't think I'll ever use this feature. I might be a bit of a control freak but I either play all of the games or sim all of the games. I won't mix it up because if I lose I'd rather lose because I played badly, not because the computer messed up my team.

whoa im surprised how many people play 82 season games. how many games do you guys play per day and how long does it take you to finish? i play 28 season games and trust me that's long enough. it takes me 2 months to finish that + the playoffs.. anyways im a stat whore, and i always push my star player to get crazy stats.
for example, kobe in nba live 2003:
games played: 28
games started: 28
points per game: 34.4
rebounds per game: 8.4
assists per game: 10.2
blocks per game: 2.5
steals per game: 2.0
and lamar odom..
games played: 28
games started: 28
points per game: 27.4
rebounds per game: 18.0
assists per game: 6.2
blocks per game: 2.1
steals per game: 2.4

I'm a bit surprised myself. Hats off to them because I simply lack the patience to do so. I think the sim feature is geared toward the 82 gamer which is an excellent feature.

my biggest thing is i want to do alot of seasons not just one. the way i see it is i can do almost 4 full seasons in the time it takes to do 1 82 game season. also i play best 2 out of 3 instead of best out of 7.
on another note, grats on the mod dre.
