Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

[
size=18]I love LIVE 2005 edition beco'z of the OVERWHELMING REVAMPED FOR THE ENTIRE GAME from graphics to franchise mode but let's be honest that there is a BIG THREAT and it is ESPN NBA 2K5...
There's no info yet regarding d gameplay & franchise mode BUT check first their GRAPHICS and let's be HONEST that they are SUPERIOR in this area.. [/size]
Look at the crowd, some of them wearing hawks shirts.. They are cool and the ball is very perfect, same with the jerseys..
For those who had seen the footage from ESPN motion, The rim & net in 2K5 is now fixed.
I AM JUST BEING FAIR here & let's not argue about the graphics and player models beco'z Live05 is just a runner-up in this department..
But honestly, I am more excited for the release of LIVe05 maybe because we have not seen yet a lot about 2K5 and for sure I WILL BUY BOTH OF THEM...

thats unrealistic
If you ever go to the Hawks game, it's because of who they are playing. Nobody friggin wears a hawks shirt to a hawks game. Or, at all.

faces are good but the jerseys don't impress me much...their ok but nothing that makes me jump off my chair plus they seem to look too....um plasticky...especially the white guys...besides im not gonna buy a game just for the graphics, unlike a few years ago where i'd go crazy over a game that has great graphics without even thinking of the gameplay....

ESPN always shows these great looking pics! But it comes to the gameplay and feel for the NBA. IMHO, these pics don't mean much to me. Yes they look nice and make me "ohh and ahh" but this series just doesn't do it for me. I still get the game because i love the NBA and i wanna try each year. But I always go back to the Live series. IMHO, NBA 2k2 was the best in the series to date.
By the way, I'd take a "Tony" faced patched anyday.

the only problem I see is this...
They are cool and the ball is very perfect
, look at the first pic with josh childress dribbling, it looks like he's palming the ball! the ball is a lil too small
Sat Aug 28, 2004 1:09 am
lol..since when is there people behind the scorers table?.???
they just need to quit with the graphics..instead of a full 3D crowd, they need a Full Post Game..and new dunk animations...
i always buy both games, but in the end..even up to this date i still play NBA Live 2004.and i only play ESPN when a friend doesn't have live...

Well, should we say: ESPN looks better in screenshots, but when things are moving NBA Live is much better than ESPN's fly on the moon~~

Well said bros but let's give 2K5 a LAST chance this year.. They said that they start from sratch and with the entry & partnership of TAKE-2 to ESPN and the successful NFL 2k5, maybe it's a total good ball game.. I am not a sega fan, in fact I can't wait for LIVE05..
If they will flunk again and re-install the disgusting dunks from 2K4, NBALIVE will reign #1 forever...
The fierce rival between this giant basketball producers are beneficial to us because they will always do everything for the game to caught our attention and our savings...

graphics dont make a game, gameplay does. been said already but needs saying again. graphics are just candy to sell a game, the meat and potatoes is in the gameplay/franchise.
Sat Aug 28, 2004 7:07 am
No there is not a threat in my opinion.
All ESPN NBA 2k5 threads belong in other games thread because this is Live 2005 General Issues
Sat Aug 28, 2004 9:23 am
I dont give a fuck about ESPN having better graphics, all I know is that Im getting Live 2005 to enjoy playing the game by myself, Im not getting it to discuss what is better Live or ESPN with people I never met on the internet.
For me Live > ESPN and that is a fact.

By the way I interpreted it, you just contradicted yourself. If it's your opinion, which you established by saying "For me," than how is it also a fact?
I'll probably try out both games, read the reviews, and see which one I prefer. Hell, I might get both seeing that ESPN will be so cheap(money wise). I've always preferred Sega's game, but they took a step back in gameplay last year and Live looks like it has a lot of improvements in that department this year.
But honestly guys, I really feel like you're just trying to find errors in these screenshots when you know in your hearts that they're better than the one's that Live has produced. I really don't think it's debatable.

I meant its a fact that I like Live over ESPN

My fault. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I guess it is a fact that it is your opinion.
Sat Aug 28, 2004 10:54 am
I agree, they look a way better.
But, as other said:
- screenshots are different from animation
- the ball is too small
- graphic is important only to some extent, defintely not the most important thing
Let's wait and see. ESPN is not telling us anything at all, what the hell are they thinking????

let me just end this topic right now.
until espn puts a thier game on the pc it was always be second best, no matter how good they try to make it.
PC > Any Console

People have their preferences so don't treat your preference as a known fact.

well said, good point.

Those screens look good, especially Ben's hair!!!
Sat Aug 28, 2004 4:16 pm
The faces and hair look fantastic, but the player models don't look all that much better in my opinion, and as others have already said the ball looks way too small and the jerseys aren't that impressive. I haven't ever played the 2K series so I can't really comment on the gameplay, but I'm a longtime NBA Live fan and I think I'll be more than satisfied with NBA Live 2005.
Rival titles will always appear to threaten each other with new features to gamers who hover between the two, but hardcore fans will almost always stick to the product they are familiar with. That's not a slight against anyone; people who simply prefer one title over the other aren't likely to give up on their favourite game.

I'm trying to figure it out, and it's like the shoulder joints are in a weird position. Josh Childress in the 1st pic looks great IMO (forget about the ball) but J-Rich just looks a TAD odd, don't know why. In the 2nd pic, look at Childress again. I don't like how the stretching distorts the jersey on his back. It's like he's wearing a really tight elastic jersey. Meanwhile, look at Ben Wallace's left arm. His shoulder looks really awkward, while the rest of him looks great, but that doesn't mean I'm buying this game.
Sat Aug 28, 2004 5:02 pm
J-Rich's hand doesn't look quite right to me. It's a small thing, but it's still an element that prevents these screens from being examples of a visually perfect game. The game looks pretty good, but as I said before I'm not really interested in buying the ESPN series and I like the sound of NBA Live 2005, so these screens don't sway my preference.

I think people are going to have to accept the fact that you're either a "Live Guy" or a "2K Guy". I don't know what genetic traits members of either groups share in common but basketball gamers all over america represent one of those 2.
To a Live Guy, it's absurd to think that 2K's weird looking graphics can even come close to that of Live. <I belong to this group..... Then to a 2K Guy, Live graphics look "cartoonish". That's the comment I hear most often from 2K guys. I guess it's kind of like Madden and the ESPN NFL series. To me it's a no brainer that Madden is king but there are guys out there who wouldn't think of picking Madden over their beloved ESPN..... EA vs. Sega, Shaq vs. Kobe, DC vs. Marvel, McDonald's vs. Burger King, Coca-Cola vs. Pepsi, etc. etc. They all seem to fall into this same kind of category.......
If a cat prefers 2K that's his business, I'm just out to play the best basketball game on the market. And year after year, EA Canada has delivered just that IMHO.
Sat Aug 28, 2004 5:48 pm
anyone that argues that madden is not the best sports game available year in and year out is an idiot and should have no right posting anything anywhere. madden sets the bar every year for all the other sports games to try and reach.

espn's graphics are better, the animations suck. and from what i've seen in the videos, this has not changed. i own both live 04 and espn 2k4, and live, while flawed, is better. it was the first live i purchased in years because the gameplay has become so crappy, but it seems espn is losing the steam it was gaining on live.
