Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.
Mon Aug 23, 2004 4:06 pm
If Live '05 dynasty mode will be like madden's owner mode, will that be involved in it. i mean like, rebuilding stuff and setting prices, and other stuff.
Mon Aug 23, 2004 4:29 pm
No.
From my understanding the financials will be limited to managing players contracts (and it goes as far as setting year by year increments in the salary, for the entire length of the contract with that specific player).
But no ticket prices, advertising and that stuff. It may be a last minute addiction but I wouldn't take it for granted.

thanks andre

I know other people will disagree, but personally I can live without that stuff. I'm more interested in simulating basketball operations than carrying out non-basketball tasks. If that makes its way into the NBA Live series, I'd like to see the option of disabling that part of Dynasty Mode. Most of the time, I'd probably just focus on the basketball and roster management, then choose to juggle ticket prices and whatnot later once I'm looking for new challenges.

But I think it would be really good to also manage you stadium and tickets prices and that kind of stuff because it would make the game even MORE realistic and that is what Live is going for, realism. (cept for the dunk contest, thats just fun)

I kind of agree with Andrew. I would rather see EA implement some more rosters related things before expanding the financial section. I'm talking about adding a distinction between restricted and unrestricted free agents (that would be great!), mid level exceptions to salary cap, and so on.
A good step this year was made with the introduction of rookie scouting and possibility to scout them on 1 on 1. These are the things I want from EA.

but they are always adding new gameplay stuff like that every year. They should just add the stadium and finacial managing features to 2005(and continue it) before they forget it all-together.
Tue Aug 24, 2004 4:01 am
They need to add owner mode and SLC.
Tue Aug 24, 2004 4:04 am
If it's not already there, I doubt they will add it to 2005. Right now I guess they are just tweeking the game, the ratings, making sure that everythings works fine and fix small bugs. No more addiyions, there's no time left.
Maybe we'll see tham in 2006.

it would be cool. i wonder if live will have that thing madden got this year, the player personality thing.this could add a whole new level to live. imagine you got a top rated center but he just turned 32 and you go and make a trade for that hot new center entering his 3rd year in the league. this would probably anger the 32 year old you already had and if you infact moved him to the bench he might flat out demand a trade.
i like the whole demanding a trade thing if its done in situations like that. i dont like it when its done because a team aint winning. maybe you sign a top rate free agent but then you only get him about 5 shots a game. suddenly he gets pissed and starts hinting at a trade. to me this kinda stuff would add alot if done right. would suck if everyone was always yelling to be traded.
Tue Aug 24, 2004 4:49 am
true, and that will also be cool, in this years, when you check the PDA, you'll get like a pop-up that says , your shooting gaurd......kobe bryant says he wants to be traded. it'll be more realistic, yeah, so i agree with you sauru

Yea.....I would really like to see them put the multiplayer dynasty back into the nba live series!!!
Tue Aug 24, 2004 6:52 am
what's multiplayer dynasty? I've HEARD of it, it just was never explained to me lol
Tue Aug 24, 2004 7:56 am
It's the option of controlling more than one team in the dynasty mode.
Tue Aug 24, 2004 10:09 am
really? dont they always have that?
Tue Aug 24, 2004 11:17 am
Nah they had multiplayer season but not dynasty.

I thought the same thing about owner mode in Madden. I didn't even use it in my first few dynasties. The thought of having to worry about all these different things, and making money, and setting ticket prices seemed too big. But then I tried it out and it's absolutley amazing. If they do add that to NBA Live then as soon as you play it you won't be able to live without it.

Can you actually increase or decrease your level of involvement in Madden though? NBA Live's Franchise/Dynasty Mode is more focused on being the GM/President of Basketball Operations rather than the owner or an executive in charge of the non-basketball aspects of the franchise. As I said, I'm more interested in the ability to simulate being in charge of basketball operations, being the head coach and being all the players, so I'd prefer the option of not worrying about the ticket prices and stuff if that's what I want to do.
Tue Aug 24, 2004 12:24 pm
Yes you can have owner mode on or off, and you can set if you want certain aspects of the franchise to be simulated or if you want to control them. For example, say you don't like scouting and drafting players, you can change the setting and have the computer simulate it. So the cpu doesn't screw up you can also set which positions are most important and what type of player you want at that position. Like you say I need a quarterback, and I want him good at scrambling. It looks for that.

Ah, OK. I haven't ever played Madden, I was under the impression Owner Mode was a complete replacement for Dynasty Mode. Sounds like a good level of customisation, I'd certainly be happy with that if those features were in NBA Live.
Who knows, I might grow to like the owner tasks, but the option to turn them off would be nice.
Tue Aug 24, 2004 12:35 pm
in owner mode, you use money to buy things the same way you use points in nba live. you can buy all sorts of extra to help boost your team, planes, new equipment, hell even build a new stadium(man i love the stadium builder). then you have to set ticket prices and the price for food/drinks/souviniers. you use all the money gained from this stuff to buy the extra/pay your players AND coaches. hireing better coaches will help your players develop better. i think it adds a whole new world of detail and imo its why madden is king of video sports.
Wed Aug 25, 2004 12:22 am
alright, is owner mode like something different from dynasty, or are you talking about the owners box in dynasty?
Wed Aug 25, 2004 1:15 am
Things like the owner mode can turn into a disaster if not done properly.
(Especially if you cannot turn them off)
In MVP baseball 2004, players go unhappy about their playing time and/or salary. I traded for a star outfielder from a team that had too many good outfielders they had to bench their superstars.
As soon as the player joined my team, he immediately became unhappy about his playing time! WTH, that was with your ex-team!
With all due respect, MVP 2004 has a nice dynasty mode but that one glitch really led me to turn off the happiness feature completely. I just hope nba live will have those features only if they can be perfect. (not almost perfect)
Wed Aug 25, 2004 1:21 am
agreed. on MVP (i have already totally stopped playing it after only 5-6 sessions, it's too buggy and annoying), i turned off all the happiness stuff, and team chemistry...it's just too succeptable to bugs. it would be a good idea, but there are too many 'computer phantoms' to make such an option more frustrating than fun.

never played madden, what does getting more money from ticket sales etc. let you do?
