Trading

Postby Micchy_boy on Fri Jul 09, 2004 3:29 am

i was playing dynasty mode and i notice that during pre-season i dont see cpu teams making trade, all they do was draft players and news i saw re-signing of players and signing of free agent.

so im hoping that in nba live 05 there will be more trade in off-season coz that's what happening right now in NBA. plus a madden style of free seasoon and trading draft picks at draft day.

that would be good, i would also like to be able to make trades prior to drafting or during the draft. most importantly i wanna be able to trade for draft picks any time during the season. no matter when i try to trade they comp says its to early. unless i turn the tradeing deadline off i can never make a trade for a draft pick.

thing i love most about madden is takeing a team, tradeing away alot of its players(mainly over 30 or overpaid) for draft picks and i try to build my team through the draft. i like to draft 1 player i label my future franchise player and i keep him no matter how good/bad he does. i want to be able to do this in nba live. why cant i stock up on first round picks early in the seaon?

yeah, most trades involving draft picks are during, the draft or the offseason, exactly when you can't trade in NBA Live...

It would require major changes to the Offseason. Metsis' suggestions for a calendar-based offseason would work very nicely.

well imo madden still has the best offseason. if nba live copied maddens off season to a t i would like nba live a hell of alot more. the major issue is being able to trade draft picks. the game just dont let you. in the last 3 madden games i have bought i spent alot of time before playing my first game basicly trading away everyone i didnt consider a franchise player(i am always the pats) for draft picks. in last years game i traded everything i had to just to get mike vick and crumpler. after that i traded away almost everyone for draft picks. i ended up with 7 first round picks and those 2. yes i had a crap team year one and i did play year 1 no simed gamed. year 2 i had 7 top draft picks plus my 2 franchise players(ok crumpler aint really franchise but haveing a TE that can catch anything you throw at him is a must in madden games and thats what crumpler does).

ok i got way off topic, i just basicly want to be able to trade draft picks once the season starts. oh and please fix it where the best players in the league always sign 1 year min contracts. very annoying.

Also, some block-buster trades. All the trades seems to be Kareem Rush for Rafer Alston, or something like that.

kareem rush for rafer alston will be a blockbuster trade, in 4 years, if that trade were to ever happen

Agreed, but not in excess and probably more often in the offseason. I remember back in one of my NBA Live 2001 franchises the CPU traded Tracy McGrady for Ray Allen which was pretty pointless as both the Magic and the Bucks had good records at the time, and continued to play the same way.

Trades need to make sense. Good teams won't trade away their best players in the middle of the season. Bad teams want to trade away a lot of their players because they need to rebuild. Good teams want to keep their core together.

at the moment trades are pretty much boring and unrealistic, there are a few things I hope that they implement:

-trading a player for cash, happens in the nba when the team receiving the player is under the salary cap

-trading for future draft picks.

-real blockbuster trades, involving multiple players (i.e shaq for lamar,c.butler and b.grant). at the moment all the simulation does is one for one trades

-having realistic trade restrictions -like not being able to trade the same player twice within a certain period of time (if you trade for a player, you can't trade that player for 30 days).

-and as Andrew said most of the blockbuster trades should happen in the offseason, and maybe one or two at close to the trade deadline.

-one thing I'd also would like to see are my draft picks, after the trade deadline you don't have access to them (if you have more than your own draftpicks you won't know who they're from unless you memorise them  ).

Well, maybe, I can't see the future, but hopefuly they become all-stars. :P

Of course, 2 trades at most per (off)season. Probably an All-star in a losing team, getting traded to a team with good, young players but no all-stars, or something like that.

couple things here,

1. karem rush is over rated.

2. like diafenes said, we need multiplayer trades and maybe even a good 3 team trade system. we should be able to pick players from one cpu team to another when a 3 team trade is involved. before we could not so 3 team trades were pointless. the cpu can always reject anyway. better yet have the cpu offer you 3 team trades and do them amongst themselves.

3.the cpu needs to let you trade for thier draft picks at any time. if the lakers called the celtics and said we will give you shaq for your first round pick and filler players(read salary cap restrictions), the celts aint gonna go "we are not interested in trades involving draft picks at this point in the season". FIX THIS

A trading block feature would solve a lot of these problems pretty handily.

Blockbusters trades would only happen between bad teams really, and you could get more trade speculation that way as well.

blockbuster trades are a off season thing or a just before trade deadline thing. you wont see a player like mcgrady go any other time except the offseason of the deadline. i would like to see more deadline trades, see teams trying to stock up on last year contract players to clear room for big name free agents.

2003/2004 was an exception though. We saw a few big trades happen throughout this season, not just before the deadline, but that doesn't happen much. They also mainly occured between struggling teams or with players who were in the final year of their contract.

the players the lakers get for shaq will be better than rush so he definetly wont be thier second best player.
