Ideas/Hopes for Create-a-Player

Postby Andrew on Sat May 22, 2004 8:43 pm

I'd love to see more depth in the Create-a-Player mode. I believe NBA Live 2000's Create-a-Player was the best for appearances, as you could mold the player's headshape and nose shape using a slider. This allowed patchmakers to create more realistic looking missing players for roster updates. As NBA Live 2004's created players all use the same headshape, a lot of them end up looking alike.

It would also be great to see the use of "layers". This way, you could give a created player five o'clock shadow and a moustache or goatee, or sideburns and a moustache/chin patch. Basically, the ability to mix and match facial hair.

Obviously this isn't as important as gameplay or Dynasty Mode features, but for roster patchmakers it would help make created players for current roster updates and old season roster patches look realistic and unique without the need for a cyberface patch (since they're generally downloaded seperately).

i agree, old wrestling games on the playstation had more in-depth create-a-player modes than nba live 2004. importing pictures like the one on live 2000 would be great too only if they do it right this time.

I want somethin like will be in FIFA 2005:

To keep up with this, they've implemented a create-a-player system that's reminiscent of their Tiger Woods series. When creating a player, you can tweak his looks using a myriad of options, and it's amazing how close you can get to making him look like the real thing. On the bottom of the player creation screen, there is a long code called EA DNA. Once you've created the player, you can save the code and distribute it however you wish. EA is hoping that local fan newspapers and websites will give out codes for any new player that joins their home team, so fans can simply plug in the code and start playing with him. This will help keep the game fresh for a long time.

Lol, we will never get anything that FIFA thing.

The reason we would never get such a feature is that the sales would go down. Every year rookies come into the league, so every year there is reason for us to buy the game. If we had this feature, I'm sure the sales percentages would go down a few notches. But that's only what I think.

This year for example, the only reason I'm buying it so that I can download patches from the likes of Tony, Jen etc, given the game isnt buggy and we can just work normally with Custom Art on/off.

This year's live is just a re-hashed version of last year + in air free style. Yay. Oh well, won't stop me from buying it. :P

A few more hairstyles and styles of facial hair with the ability to select different colours for each style would be great. The ability to select colours or create news ones (similar to the colour select for accessories) would be fantastic too. It might make player creation a little more lengthy, but the end result would be worth it.

For create a player, this is how I would like it:

Info:
Name:
Date of Birth:
Years Pro:
City (or country):
School:
Height:
Weight:
Wingspan:
Position 1:
Position 2:
Position 3 (If applicable):
Hand (Left or right):
Number:

Ratings:
Hopefully their additions like player tendencies, so a guy like Nene is trying to take his man off the dribble instead of posting up like most PF's.

A guys like Corriliss Wiliamson at the SF position is posting up and using his strength to abuse people inside, Dwayne Wade is slashing to the basket a lot etc....

Their looks and their Apparell:
face:
hair: (allow to pick hair color and type first, then we can go through the styles)
facial hair: etc..........just add a lot more options to these things, like 100 for each...
nose use a slider to determine length

kind of socks, if they wear goggles, a nose protecting mask, all that garbage.

Lastly and most importantly I'd like name recognition, that would be a good addition.

Wingspan:

Yes. I'd really love EA to add wingspan.

hair: (allow to pick hair color and type first, then we can go through the styles)

This one is a no-brainer that NBA Live still hasn't figured out.

I would like to see:

    Wingspan
Official Apparel such as Nike, Addidas, Reebok, etc.
Mold the face with sliders ( like andrew said )
In the ratings for jumping, make it Vertical Inches that he can jump
    The size of their shoes
More hairstyles and more realistic ( Corn rows on a white guy or a fro )

That is all I can think of. I like the jumping idea instead of 0-99 because how high is 99 in inches? You get what I am saying? It just would make more sense to me :D

I'm happy everyone like's the wingspan Idea, the only problem with picking their vertical is that how many players verticals do you actually know, maybe like Troy Bell - 44, Vince - 40, Francis - 42, Lebron - 40 sumthin, Kobe - 39+, Tmac - 39+, but who really knows all the players verticals?

We don't know them but there are ways to find out atleast for the better ones. Also, EA Sports make the players so what ever there Vertical is, they will find them out. EA Sports can handle that and if you are creating yourself for example. Go out and measure your vertical or you can cheat and set it high :P

I am just saying it would be a good idea in my eyes.

Yea I do think it's a good Idea, basically for the guys you don't know, bad would be (12-19), decent (20-27), average (28-31), Good (32-37), Very Good (38-43), Amazing (44-50), Superman (50-55) lol, I guess 55 could be the max.

That would certainly work. In most cases you wouldn't have to be too specific, just pick a figure in the approximate range. Then again if most of the players are going to have estimates, perhaps it's better to leave a jumping rating, ranging from 0 to 99.

This jumping thing shouldn't be just a set figure... If you really want to implement jumping as they should be implemented... Well you need another rating for it. Hang time! I am one of the persons that don't jump too high, but I have some serious hang time. Or then I jump that high, but I have feeling that I don't get too high off the floor.

And there are two different kinds of jumpers. You can jump with strength or you can jump with speed. Most of the best dunkers do it with speed, but the likes of Shaq etc. It's all muscle.

When you jump with strength, you are usually stationary, but with explosive jumping you are usually on the run.

I'm such a bad leaper that I do them both with some results, but I know I jump better when I'm on the move.

Wingspan is another great addition, as there are people with different length arms. Mohammed has pretty long arms... I remember him in the college days when the announcers went on about how he's going to be a great blocker with those long arms of his.

Definitely we need more options on the looks as all the rookies look alike and that's just bad. Although the time when we could mold the head shape etc. you could do such ugly mother f*c*ers that they would just look dumb. And unfortunately this was the case on some of rookies.

i know it's not hugely important or nething..

but ffs can we have a create-a-player feature without shoepolish facial hair for once.. I have a moe and goatie and these things have volume.. most of the facial hair in the create-a-player feature from live in years past looks like it's been drawn on by a ten year old with a black crayon..

Working headbands would be nice... I can't make any of my players wear headbands unless I create them myself.

Ah yes, headband colors and shoe colors after trades. Paul Pierce isn't gonna wear no damned green headband on the Raptors...

The best solution might be to set all players to the automatic team colour, or at least reset all their accessories to the automatic team colour when they are traded, released or signed. The user could then edit the player's accessories (including headbands) once they are on the user's roster. Even though it's easy enough to change headbands through DBF editing, console users don't have that luxury.

Yeah, I'm never buying a console version again; the PC version is so much easier to work with and I'm tired of playing with stupid mistakes and screw-ups that I could fix if I had it on my computer. I'll just get a USB adapter for my PS2 controller.

More ideas for creatre a player

Postby guitarlearner on Thu Jun 17, 2004 8:25 pm

Someone please get this across

For created players, they should lift the weight restrictions! I used to be able to create Shaq O'Neal to weight as many as 350lbs in NBA lIVE 2000!

Also, what on Earth were they thinking? I can't create one of my friend who has a very long last name (14 letters to be precise). The commentators should have a database of default first & last names (my last name is Mak (pronounced 'Mack').

Also legends with long names, BRING BACK KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR in the 80's All-Star & HIS AGELESS SKY HOOK!! :x I've been asking for it since NBA Live 2000, and I still never got it.

If EA Sports wants to REALLY take advantage of the grow popularity of basketball, they should expand the number of players & teams in the game by getting international! Get NZ Tall Blacks (my adopted country), USA Dream Team, etc.

And also: GET THE DUNK CONTEST GOING ALREADY! ESPN COLLEGE HOOPS GOT IT ALREADY!
