"Select your dunk"

You just broke Kobe Bryant's ankles with a flashy crossover dribble. There's no one between you and the basket. Time to show off. Do you perform an explosive tomahawk jam, or spin through the air with a 360? In NBA Live 2005, players will be able to select which dunk they want to perform as they elevate. The days of random slams are finally behind us. Live is scheduled to street just before the NBA opener this fall.

wow! if it's controlled, this will be awesome. Like I hope Shaq can only do power dunks and Carter can't do 360's in a crowded lane. If this feature is tamed down then it will be so awesome!

Well, how exactly would we have total control over the dunk?

There are only so many buttons you know, I'm kind of confused. How would it work? I would miss alot of dunks because I'm very clumsy with the analog sticks.

Maybe button sequences do different 'moves'. Like buttons

1, 2, 4

Would make him do some sort of windmill, and if you do it while doing 360 on the analog stick, 360 windmill, that kind of thing I'm guessing.

That would be tricky to do, but I guess harder dunks should be trickier by nature.

I really fail to see this as a good feature. From the sounds of this, it means that we would only have a handfull of dunks. maybe five at the most if not four. I mean, how many ways can you use the analog stick to get different combinations for dunks? even if somehow ea was to manage 6-7 different combinations, it'll start to get cumbersomer and confusing. i think the surprise element shouldnt be completely taken off. sometimes not knowing what you're going to get builds the excitment.

Hey man maybe you forgot that its not all about dunks, its about adjusting in mid air, instead of simply repressing the dunk button to let go of the ball. And all of the screens I've seen show them tangled up with someone else, trying to 'adjust' to get the ball in.

Ah man this is the coolest news I heard so far. I hope the dunks gets controlled by the analog stick. Everything else wouldn't work good.

Hmm...

Somehow I don't think it will be very useful...

If you think about real life basketball, when you jump to dunk/layup/shoot, you determine how you are going to jump and make the necessary adjustment to your shot once the defenders starts to jump and attempts to block you....
This whole process most often last only a second or at most two...

In a computer game, you have two options...
a) Doing the whole process I mention aboce using a controller/keyboard in a second or two... which I personally doubt will be enough time
b) You predetermine what you are going to do and perform the move accordingly at the time you think is good... which I think is more reasonable...

Hmm, real ballers "might" play using option b) sometimes (me too)... but it usually ended up looking very ugly cuz you can't precisely determine how your defender is going to react...

ex. you plan to go up at the defender's left side and quickly swing the ball to the right at the top of the jump and then do a layup under his arm... but then in reality, the defender don't buy the fake and jumps to the right side...... then you are being block "live 2k3" style....

You can buy dual analog controllers like they have for the Playstation 2.

Infact when I buy Live 2004, I am going to buy a controller.

(I havve the PS2 version but it sounds and looks cooler on the PC because of Mods and updates)

Lol, how can you guys play NBA live without any controller with two analogs sticks?! It is required to be able to play th game good.
I used keybord from '95-01', but since 03' I have used my Wingman Rumblepad which was required to be able to use the freestylse shit.

It works also great for driving games such as Need For Speed (y)

Good thing is that it's Logitech behind the controller, and who else is better than them on stuff like that (y)

I own an XBOX so on nba live 2005 the slam dunk freestyles will probably be controlled with the right analog stick. Like for example you can do 5 dunks with everybody that can dunk good. four dunks you can do can be with the right analog stick after you have press the x button. then one dunk you can do with the x button. it should be lots of fun doing dunks that way for the nba live 2005 on the XBOX version.
