Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

if the CPU needs to cheat to beat me, that means that i am better than what EA could ever create. therefore i think i might buy a ps2 and switch to SEGA sports which gives me an actual challenge. not the bullshit which EA scrapes up every year. NBA BLOCK 2005 coming soon...
They should call it the new NBA Jam with lil less dunking. But i like the idea of being better than EA Sports NBA live...
instead of the bs Freestyle, maybe they should come up with SOMETHING CLOSE TO REAL BBALL for a change this year. Not no damn NBA BLOCK/COMEBACK 2005

i guess i'll be the first to disagree. actually i found live 2004 to be the most competitive of all live's. now the rating changeup didn't seem to be as big as it may have been intented to be, but the sliders accomplished exactly what i wanted, a defensive game where i have to take good open shots, or work to get to the basket, and even then, with the cpu blocking slider up very high i still had to make good moves to the basket, not just go for the layup or dunk as soon as there's an open lane.
and for the first time the sliders allowed me to rely on my players ratings instead of me being able to shoot any kind of shot as long as i release it perfectly. i had the shot sliders in the low to mid 20 range, with the game speed at about 25, which is probably too slow and sloppy for many people, but it allowed me to play basketball and made passing fun again.
for every ten people that ea makes the gameplay perfect for, there will be twice as many who will hate it, so this is the most realistic way for them to give everyone the kind of game they want. and considering that with madden if you have a fast small hb one season, and then a slow power back the next, there is a very good chance that you will have to adjust the sliders to accomodate the change, i don't think live is doing that bad.

Even though I had my complaints, I also found that NBA Live 2004 was the most challenging and entertaining game in the series. I managed to devise slider settings that suited my style of play, allowing me to be challenged while maintaining realistic scores. Not everyone was successful in doing this, so I certainly understand and appreciate your point of view. But for me, NBA Live 2004 has been the most enjoyable of the series so far.

it really has been for me too. 2003 was the hectic fast paced high scoring games where defense was a no-no and the cpu would make some miraculous comebacks. before that, i'm sure there are some people still around here who remember the threads about the cpu being so far behind by the second quarter that most of us were trying to see how many points one player could score just to stay interested in finishing a game. i remember wilt's record being shattered many times.
but my point is, for me at least, 2004 solved those two problems and if the same base game is used they shouldn't become problems again, so hopefully no going back to the drawing board. and after playing so many boring blowouts, i want the challenge of stopping a comeback, and now at least i can try to use some strategy in playing.

That's why we need the comeback code. It just needs to be refined so that the CPU plays more realistically, and that the CPU comeback is within reason.

I think bringing back the comeback mode is a good thing, but it should only be done by the elite teams like lakers, mavs, kings, spurs etc.
Sun May 09, 2004 3:33 am
That I agree to. That adds to realism because teams like Chicago won't likely be coming back against teams like SA, LAL, DAL, etc.
Sun May 09, 2004 8:48 am
I wouldn't mind the comeback code, if you were able to break the AI's run, and get them to give up. I just hate when there is a point in the game, where they just keep comming.
Sun May 09, 2004 10:35 am
If Live doesnt want to known as an arcade-like game it will turn down the bs comeback foolishness.
Sun May 09, 2004 10:53 am
therefore EA Sports as a sim ball game is a pathetic joke

Personally i think EA is making rapid improvements. I Have nba Live96 on Gamebuy(top game that), Lost it about 3 years ago and i have live's 2000,01,02,03 & 04.
The gameplay as a user in NBA live 04 is the best its ever been. The comeback's are made, but im still finding is fun to play because i fond it challenging.
As some other people said its not as easy to find the basket and defend the computer's play. The code sliders and that are there to help every user play to what they find fun in their own way.

another q: if there are so many flaws in the game, why is EA implementing new features in Live 2005,etc. Why not fix some of the problems instead tryin to distract us with new FREESTYLE wutever(block, air, etc)
Sun May 09, 2004 11:37 pm
It may just be me..but your questions seem rhetorical and your comments seem more like gripes and criticisms. The game is unreleased...we dont know what bugs or whatever it will have..so blasting it is unfounded.

Winning Eleven 7, i don't believe, has any sorta comeback code. When the computer beats you, they beat you through strategy, not cheating. Why can't Live do this? Comebacks should be based on the team's stats, how many veterans they have on their team, how good the coach is, or how resilant the team is.
You people say that the computer sucked compared to without the comeback code; well the computer still sucks if they need to deteriorate your skills (or when humans use it we call them cheaters) to win. (Personally, I can still manage to keep the computer off, most of the time depending on the team because I then to enjoy the low post game

)
The fact that you can blowout the computer consistently in the first half shows that the computer blows hard.
I would like to see EA (on all their sports games) to stop including all these frivlous things like 2005's freestyle air and concentrate on fixing the AI and making the game realistic first. Unfortunately it seems that without much worthy competition, they will continue to sit on their laurels. However Winning Eleven shows us that it IS possible to put out a really good simulation of a sport, so its not impossible and so let us hope EA will start turning things around

.

I can only speak for myself, but that's what I'd like the comeback code to be like - less aggressive and more realistic. It certainly is possible to withstand the late charge and blowout the CPU. The concept of the comeback code is a good idea, but often it's executed in a very frustrating way.
Basically, most of us want what you've described, which is what the comeback code is intended to do. It has some flaws though, namely unrealistic gameplay for certain stretches in the second half. If the comeback code can be modified so that it is more realistic, then great. If they need to scrap the code and design new AI that achieves the same goal, then that's great too.

Thank you. finally someone who DISAGREES with wut EA sports does. I played ESPN BALL 2k4, it is WAY BETTER THAN Live as a sim, but not as multiplayer. Live could learn some things from SEGA when it comes to realism or consider itself labelled an ARCADE game for yrs to come. I say scrap the stupid FREESTYLE AIR as Live will get even more unrealistic. I bet dunks will happen so often and players will be go all over the place adjustin their shot. I kno there is no perfect game and i dont wan one. but Live is just too damn unrealistic especially wit the blocking. Live 2005 to me would be the best Live if they got rid of the Superman blocks and the comeback code as well as a deeper dynasty.

konami's winning eleven (pes) series is the best soccer game ever.
I played EA's FIFA since 96 and winning11 since 98 (SFC)
but i can easily found that winning11 is much more attractive & interesting than other soccer games.
I agree that "they beat you through strategy, not cheating"
yes. you'll definitely agree if you REALLY play winning11.
I was very disappointed that EA sports improve the game's appearence more than gameplays...

LOL EA has NO STRATEGY. they make the CPU CHEAT so that you keep playing the game, and want to buy another copy trying to beat it. Does anyone know if SEGA has any plans for the PC???
I cant take "NBA Live" anymore and seeing EA SPORTS stupid motto "its in the game" pisses me off even more. Because i watch pure bball and none a that bs happens. IF Heat are losing by 23 to the Mavs @ the start of the 4th, they will lose the GAME. But in EA Sports world, the Heat will come back with about 3 mins. left to play. BS. But can someone please find out if SEGA is coming to the PC? thanks

You sound like you've had enough with nba live...can i assume that you wont be playing live 2005 since you already predict it will be crap? You'll be playing espn 2005 instead?
..Seriously..we might need to make a live 2005 gripe section if people already hate the game and it isnt even released yet.
Sun May 16, 2004 9:39 am
i dont hate it already...lol but i am saying that if EA doesnt fix or lessen the problems i always get i will hate Live 2005
