NBA Live 2005: Direct Pass - better chance to receive pass

Postby celticslegend33 on Fri Apr 30, 2004 2:07 pm

Here's a suggestion for Live 2005.

In NBA Live 2004: When pushing Direct Pass, names/positions of teammates are displayed.
In NBA Live 2005: When Direct Pass is pushed, names/positions of teammates are displayed with corresponding colors.

What it does in Live 2005:
1. Green colored names/positions = good chance of getting/receiving the pass
2. Yellow colored names/positions = average chance of getting/receing the pass
3. Red colored names/positions = slim chance of getting/receiving the pass

Of course, the colors/chances of getting the pass will depend on the players'/passers' ratings and/or situation.

The reason? With the current Live, passing can be so unrealistic you could pass to anywhere/whoever you want. In real-life basketball, you would want to see whether passing to a teammate down low is a big gamble or not. Having a good passing rating doesn't mean you can pass to anyone/wherever you like, no? So you think this is worth it? You decide. Vote now!

I agree. Live 2004 passing game is pretty realistic but the flaws are that players rated 10 in pass ratings can throw good passes, long court pass are very successful and the stupid delay after you catch a pass.

I'm glad you saw my point. Of course, depending on luck (or the defender's ability), a pass might be deflected if not stolen. It would be better though, if there were more tips and fumbling of loose balls rather than outright strip/steal.

The same goes for rebounding. Possession of the basketball is either you have it or you lose it. Know what I mean? There're no loose balls to compete for. It's either you grabbed the rebound/stole the ball or you lost it. Plain and simple.

Like I said before Live 2004, there're no scrambling of loose balls to 'kill' the clock. Ergo, sometimes the high-scoring game.

I'm certainly interested in the idea. It would have to factor in the CPU Interception slider, but I don't see any problems with the system. I like it. :)

That's a very good idea. Though if EA already hasn't developed something like that for 2k5, then I doubt they'll just add it in.

Then what are we waiting for?! Add it to the wishlist!!! :P Or at least it comes out in NBA Live 2006.

Problem with EA is they insist/prioritize on improving graphics, crossovers, freestyle air control, and even in-game music more than they do over real-life gameplay. And by this, I mean...

- absence of tips and scrambling for looseballs from interceptions and rebounds
- too much players bumping/bouncing off each other (like they're made of rubber balls)
- players dumb enough to realize that they're behind the backboard and still try to shoot
- stupid teammates unable to cut inside while on a fastbreak (because they'd rather have a play called than get passed under the basket)
- lazy players strolling on the park on both offense/defense even if their counterparts are already on the other end - can't they even realize that they're the only ones left on the backcourt and everyone's been waiting for them to come into the fold???
- my player leads the league in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, and blocks... only to find out I can't even win a single 'Player of the Month' honor... (at least they choose me as their MVP).
- clear path to the basket and cpu defenders still manage to do a "Flash" and sneak up behind you to adjust/block your shot
- etc., etc....

The NBA Live 2005 Wishlist has already been submitted (a long time ago ), but we can certainly add it to next year's Wishlist. In the mean time, members of the NBA Live team do browse the forum, so perhaps it will be seen before then.

I love the idea. But I'd like to be able to turn it off.

Here's what the idea would allow. It would let a player control the game with the point guard, and make smart passes. And it would stop people from complaining because they know what is a smart pass.
