Andrew
Can you do something withe the ratings to fix the problem of the guards doing almost all the shooting. For example Parker on SA and Bibby and Mobley on Sacramento, Sprewell and Cassel in Minnesota and on.
I have the game for the PS2 and PC. Believe me that the roster update does the difference. It makes it a hole new game.

Hi fellaz! These slider discussions are really great, but I wanted to ask you how should the sliders be adjusted to keep more difficult for me to bang in for the dunk in down low? I'm playing SA Spurs dynasty on all-star level 9 min at the moment and it's too easy for Duncan to dunk all over and over again past his defender-he scores about 50 ppg with this "stuff". Maybe boundary force field has smth to do with this (it's currently set to 60, what does it affect anyway?), btw blocks are normal in the game for me (6-8 bpg for both teams). Btw, how fo you guys score more from downtown? What are your ways to scoring 3? And another thing: on fast brakes I almost always outplay cpu by crossover/spin moves (although I hate when the player who gets pass dreams all day and the defenders are quickly back on D already), but CPU is really struggling with fast brakes: at most it makes 1-2 fast brakes for an easy lay up, btw have you noticed how stupidly cpu doesn't pass to their team mates who are already ahead of the defence? So please someone recommend me sliders for my listed problems. Your help is very much appreciated! Thanks if you can help!

I actually agree with you. I feel my sliders work pretty well as I get great results from them, but they won't work perfectly for everyone. Always consider them a base for further tweaking; if they work for you as hoped, great! If not, see what further changes you can make.

andrew lately in my raps dyansty ive been holding teams under 85pts sometiems even below 80pts. have you gotten similiar results?
Thu Jan 27, 2005 11:32 am
I often do, but not everybody does. That's why I recommend tweaking my sliders if they don't work perfectly for your playing style.

Greetings everyone for starters.
You know, finding the correct slider settings to enjoy one's game is rather difficult,time-consuming but also strangely rewarding when you feel you are actually going somewhere... And just when you think everything is perfect there is the odd game of 131-130 to make you go back to the grindstone and stuff your nose in it for another tweak in favor of realism.
Chances are that by the time Live 2006 comes out you'll still be tweaking.
Anyways, I found out that fidgeting with NBA 2005 sliders was a painstaking,step-by step process but was nothing as atrocious when compared to the similar procedure for MADDEN NFL 2005.Now there's a challenge!! As for NHL 05, don't bother trying,it's hopeless.
After the intro, here are my slider settings for 12 mins quarter on superstar difficulty.
GAME SPEED=40(Mostly real-like game pace. The speed at which certain moves are perfomed depends mostly on freestyle effect)
FREE THROW=65 (You can probably get above .850 if you stay concentrated and have above average FT shooters on your team. But good luck going above .400 with the likes of Shaq.I haven't stricken any balance with this one yet, although it seems of minor importance.)
BOUNDARY FORCE FIELD=65 (I still get the odd 'I think i\I'll take a trip out of bounds cause i love the way the whistle souns' move 2 or 3 times a game)
INJURY FREQUENCY=53 (at least somebody gets injured, although i haven't run into any season ending traumas yet)
FATIGUE EFFECT=56 (with careful management you can get 40+/- mins from your starters)
CHARGE/BLOCK FOUL FREQUENCY=60 (logical unless you drop-step half the time)
SHOOTING FOUL FREQUENCY=25 (still the odd trip to the lane for 3 but no more than once per game on average.)
REACH-IN FOUL FREQUENCY=30 (don't abuse the steal button. It should be higher with the new stricter rules that apply as of this season but that would be too much realsm in favor of playability and flow.It is a computer game, after all)
IN-AIR COLLISION FOUL FREQUENCY=80 (maybe a little strict here but i don't like being able to virtually destroy my opponent mid-air and get nothing called against me.I'd probably make a poor referee...)
USER SLIDERS
STEAL ABILITY=30 AND
INTERCEPTION ABILITY=10 (you get some pickpockets with the risk of committing a foul and you do not get the advantage of raping the opponent's passing lines, except maybe on inboundings)
SHOT BLKABILITY=19 AND
LAY UP/DUNK BLOCK ABILITY= 23 (timed correctly you can get 5 to 8 blocks per game as a team)
FREESTYLE EFFECTIVENESS=28 (i found out that with this slider at 30 i could almost too easily turn a defender using just the keyboard.Do I'll try 28)
DUNK vs LAY-UP=25 ( 1 to 3 is a realistic analogy i think)
USER SUB FREQUENCY=0 (no auto-subs,thank you very much...)
ON_BALL DEFENSE ASSIST=42 (you still have to do most the work of man-mark an opponent and challenging his shot at the right time)
DEFENSIVE REBOUNDS=70 AND
OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS=35( Could be too much, I'm think of trimming it down some)
FAKEOUT DISCIPLINE=100
SHORT RANGE SHOOTING=38 AND
MEDIUM RANGE SHOOTING= 48 AND
LONG RANGE SHOOTING=54 ( Makes for some erratic post play but at least gets the stats right at the end of the game. The 54 at LONG is because i can't time my release correctly.Depends on reflex mostly,i still miss quite a few open 3s and mid-range jumpers)
DUNK PRCT AND
LAY-UP PRCT=50
ADJUSTED SHOT PERCENTAGE=35 (acrobatical moves should succeed less often...)
ON-BALL PHYSICAL DEFENSE=50 (haven't tinkered with this one a lot)
POOR RELEASE SHOT PRCT=50 (i'd rather play with the short/med/long sliders)
DOUBLE TEAM EFFECTIVENESS=50 (Nothing fancy here...)
PRO-HOP EFFECTIVENESS=16 AND
DROP-STEP EFFECTIVENESS=16 ( This way you can only use these power moves if you have the room to do so. If not, you'll fumble just as IRL.)
CPU
STEAL ABILITY= 18 AND
INTERCEPTION ABILITY= 10( take care and shield the basketball, avoid exposing it and trying far-fetched passes and it'll be smooth. Do the opposite and give the ball away around 25 times a game.)
SHOT BLOCK ABILITY=0 AND
DUNK/LAY UP BLOCK ABILITY=0 (goes without saying,methinks)
FREESTYLE EFFECTIVENESS=44 (a real challenge staying in front of your man but it's worth it.)
DUNK FREQUENCY=40 (and there are still too many dunks, maybe lower this a bit)
SUB FREQUENCY=53 ( open to debate...)
DEF REBOUNDS=75 AND
OFF REBOUNDS=40 ( a challenge at the defensive end..)
FAKEOUT DISCIPLINE = 50 (a good mix with user freestyle effectiveness.)
SHORT RANGE SHOOTING=48 AND
MED RANGE SHOOTING=45 AND
LONG RANGE SHOOTING=45 ( if you do not challenge the outside shot appropriately, it's 80% to go in..)
DUNK PRCT AND
LAY-UP PRCT=50 (expected...)
ADJUSTED SHOT PRCT=40 AND
ADJUSTED SHOT FREQUENCY=40 (I still get the occasional contortionist manoeuvre but i can live with it)
ON-BALL PHYSICAL DEFENSE=40 (tests your skills using freestyle...)
POOR RELEASE SHOT PERCENT=50 (normal value..)
DOUBLE TEAM EFFECTIVENESS=50 (likewise..)
PRO HOP EFFICIENCY AND
DROP-STEP EFFICIENCY= 45 ( you give them room,they'll bury it..)
And that,as they say,id that...

Andrew, are you going to release a new version of your sliders?
Fri Jan 28, 2005 7:08 pm
I don't know at this stage. A few people are getting really good results with them (myself included, obviously) while others find that a few tweaks to suit their style of play helps. I might update them a little bit though.

Thank you! I would like to suggest to turn up the reach in foul a little bit since real NBA games have much more reach in fouls.

Yeah especially since they are more tough on players with contact when guarding a player, but that was to mkae the offense more flowing and make it easier to score, but by increasing the number of reach in fouls in the game it wont make it any easier to score.

Yeah, and you might want to reduce the stealing and interception sliders. I've set mine to about 15 and 18 each.
Sat Jan 29, 2005 12:40 pm
OK, I'll give those a shot.
Sun Jan 30, 2005 2:59 am
it seems there's no way to make all stats realistic, i can only stop myself from scoring 130-160 points a game with andrew's sliders (even adjusted to lower scoring) if i play less than 12 quarter minutes
Sun Jan 30, 2005 8:39 am
I can pretty much get every stat fine except rebounds, i Average about 50rpg.
Any help on this??
EDIT: sorry I forgot to say that the Comp averages about 45-50 so there are usually about 95-100 rebounds to go around instead of 80-85.

Probably because the CPU decides to launch a mid range jumper before 10 seconds into the offense more than half the time... Too many shots, too many misses, too many rebounds...
Sun Jan 30, 2005 11:26 am
Agree! CPU takes way too many mid range jumper. I think average FGA and FTA for a team should be about 90 and 20. What I did was lower the freestyle efficiency for user to 40 and upper the air collision foul and CPU on ball physical defense. Then I get less secondary fast break and I will get more foul when I drive which means more FTA and less FGA.
ps, the way I slow CPU offense speed is I always play full court man to man so CPU always spends more than 10 second to make a shoot.
Sun Jan 30, 2005 4:27 pm
Thanks Terry, I'll give that a try, yeah I think its more the problem of the CPU taking too many shots, I try to slow it down but its pretty hard sometimes.
Tue Feb 01, 2005 1:53 am
And another thing... Using your own sliders'providing they give out an average total of 200-220 total points max, just try to slow the game down yourself and play as you would if you were on the court. No far-flung passes among 3 defenders, no pressing the dunk button every time a post player gets within 5 feet of the basket, and play some hard,in your nose defense(Czar's words) on the ball carrier on the perimeter. The final score will be about 85-75. Larry Brown would be proud of you!!!

Superstar Sliders
Quarter Length = 12 minutes
Global Sliders
Reach-in Foul Frequency: 46 [Don't hack at the steal button]
Are you saying you want less reach-in fouls when you go for steals. Or are you saying yuo don't want people always pressing steal button?
I have to agree with both you and Pared on Medium Range and Short Range. Medium range is not far enough of this game and there is something wrong with the post game on all-star and higer. I like the rest though.
I also don't know bout his 2004 sliders for Rebounding and poor shot release. Defensive reboundign is supposed to be stronger than offensive. Also I think a lot of us have gotten good at releasing at top of jump and we still miss those shots. I don't see a reason to lower it, but I guess if it slows down the 3-point cheesers its worth it.
His 2005 sliders are almost on point though. But this shows you how flawed the game is when the settings don't work the same for different game lengths. You would think things would be mostly the same and the stats would just reflect shorter and longer game times. The only thing that could have to be changed at different legnths is fatigue effect.

durvasa wrote:Do any of you guys think that pro-hop would work better as a player rating attribute rather than a general gameplay slider? For instance, Kobe or T-Mac should be very effective with their pro-hop, whereas a less talented offensive player like Bruce Bowen would have a lower pro-hop rating. Same with drop step. Shaq should have a VERY high drop-step rating. A player like Ben Wallace should have a low drop-step rating.
Wouldn't this make more sense?
Ben Wallace accually is very good at Drop Stepping in real life, As are all Really good Centers.
(Your probably looking at my Avatar and Sig and thinking.....Hmmmm this comming from a Big Ben Fan ofcourse hes going to defend him, Well YOUR RIGHT!!)

I have mine at about 40-45 because I hit Iguodala on a solo fast break and he went up for a layup and missed it.

the percentage sliders are for how accurate the shot will be.GO CHICAGO BULLS

Global Sliders taking a shot every 12 seconds, don't complain.
if you leave your steal and interception sliders at zero then you will be going by the players ratings.and not letting the computer cheat for you by adding more to the players ratings.GO CHICAGO BULLS

Has anyone figured out what "User On-ball Defense" is and "cpu On-Defense" is and what does it effect?
If I higher or lower these numbers what will occur.
It's way too easy to post in this game, any suggestions?
Mon Feb 14, 2005 4:22 pm
if you put higher settings on these two. remember when the computer stuck right in your face during defense. its like the glueness of the defender. i cant explain very well. anybody else
