Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

I have to agree, though I wouldn't call them "newbs"
Cut scenes and graphics-based sports titles to me are geared toward the commercial sports gamer rather than the die hard sports gamer. Sure there are in fact those die hard sports gamers who are easily swayed by glossy graphics but I find them to be more of the exception rather than the norm........

i coudlnt really think of a better word for newbs at the time lol. you said it like i should have.

I don't really like cut scenes. They will become too repetitive and I don't like the "interruption" it brings to the game. If a player's gonna do something like yell or wave his hands in the air, it'd be awesome if he does it in the game instead of zooming in during the cut scene. Personally, I'm glad it's gone and it shouldn't be in there anymore.

agreed, cut scenes are only good at certain times imo. like when you win a championship, or advance to the next round of the playoffs, or even get booted from the playoffs. things like that are cool and i admit i want them in the game. the ingame ones i could care less about, also i could care less about auto replays as i feel those interupt the flow of the game also. now the other cut scenes, drafting rookies, resigning players, cutting or tradeing for players, those are ok but get boreing fast. i wont miss those a bit.

No doubt, I like for the celebrations to be in game but there is one problem with that. I absolutely detest when I score with my player and I'd like to guard the inbounds in order to make a steal but he's still stuck in his celebratory animation. Singlehandedly one of the most frustrating things in the game..........

only thing i hate worse than that is when one of my players goes for the put back dunk but doesnt get the ball, someone else rebounded it and started to run. now instead of my run landing and getting his ass up down the court he is stuck in some slow ass hop animation that does not end til the comp has already broke his own 3 point line.

Yeah! I spoke to Maximus Powers from IGN about that very same thing. My term for it is "Frustration Animations". Anyway I described it just as you did when he was fielding questions after the EA Summit and he told me he NEVER experienced that! I was like WTF? How could he not have?
Yeah, that definitely has to go and there are also frustration animations on the defensive end after blocks too...

maybe he never actually played the game? lol. this happened to me atleast once a game, usually more like 5-6 times a game(i play 12 min). i was sueing the bulls and chandler was basicly my only real defense. i had dirk at the 4 and he was no help, melo at the 3 who got burned constantly, then my guards were lebron and a drafted rookie(man he owned). the rookie did a great job on defense which usually gave me enough time to get chandler back into the play but if he was not there the comp usually scored.

And of course, cutscenes are only worthwhile if they're well done. Take NBA Live 2003 for example. There were plenty of cutscenes but most people (myself included) found them too silly. Anyone who's seen "NBA Courtside Comedy", a tape released in 1996 or 1997, or any other video that highlights the lighter side of the NBA knows that these things happen and that pro sports aren't always serious business.
But there's just too much goofing around in 2003's cutscenes. It was a nice idea, but it just got a bit too silly after a while. And let's not forget the random nature that saw (once again using my favourite examples

) Duncan in an animated discussion with the referee, Brendan Haywood chewing out Michael Jordan for not listening during a timeout, and Efthimos Rentzias stopping to sign an autograph at halftime.

Exactly. I think everyone misunderstood what Tim said in the interview. They just took out the dynasty cut scenes.. stuff like showing a retired player walking out of the locker room, the comish shaking hands with the number one pick and so on.
Anyone who's watched the IGN clips knows that the ingame ones are still there.
Mon Sep 13, 2004 11:19 am
Not sure if they still have it, but in 2001 they had cutscenes of player rituals (malone shaking his ass, kidd blows a kiss) and also had scenes of players coming in the game(subs)... I noticed a lot of people sayin they want to show the players coming in. did they take out those cutscenes?
Mon Sep 13, 2004 11:30 am
You know after seeing the cutscenes of someone getting angry at a foul 2 trillion fouls...did you go "WOW...that cutscene looks beautiful for the 2 trillionth time!" Well I HATED those cutscenes. They were annoying. Cutscenes are so pointless. Winning Eleven 8 has the best cutscenes in a sports game, but after seeing 2 billion red card animations...I could live without it.
Mon Sep 13, 2004 11:49 am
i agree half way, they do get old but is kind of nice to see them every now and then, but not to over do it
Mon Sep 13, 2004 3:13 pm
yeah, I know what you mean.. in live 2001, after I saw all the scenes i started to skip them all the time...
but damn, in live 2004, those stupid dynasty scenes got so annoying. I'm always looking to make roster moves whether it's trading or signing and I do whatever it takes to make my perfect team.. so I got so annoyed by all the scenes of players coming in the locker room I was about to throw the controller through the screen

Andrew wrote:Patching isn't all about fixing - it can be about enhancing and updating. Roster updates save people the trouble of making trades and creating players themselves. Cyberface patches replace the created player appearance and enhance those roster patches.
Roster patches can add classic teams and special rosters that EA cannot legally include in the game. They can be throwback rosters (PLUG like my 95/96 roster featuring the work of many talented graphics patchers END PLUG). It's more than simply fixing graphical problems.
We've all seen the screenshots for NBA Live 2005, the graphics look much better than NBA Live 2004. I don't think the lack of cutscenes are because EA are not proud of the graphics in NBA Live 2005. If a bunch of three second cutscenes that most people skip after a while is the price we have to pay this year for a major overhaul to Dynasty Mode, then most of us are going to say so be it.
One final thing. I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again. This forum allows freedom of speech. You're free to have any opinions you like and you don't have to agree with everybody else. That would be boring. But it really seems you're only here to bash everything the NBA Live production team does, trash the NBA Live series and promote ESPN's title. If that is your agenda, I suggest you find another board because like or not, this is an NBA Live fansite and we are going to have positive opinions about the game. We are going to biased, and we're going to enjoy the game as we see fit.
So like I said in another thread: Please, give it a rest.
u tell em andrew
i really dont see wats so big abt cut scenes...i mean i just get annoyed with some of them...remember live 03...each time a sub comes in its like the same cut scene over and over again....in the end u just skip all of them..
i think it could be neat to have like a draft cut scene..where u show the rookie going up to the podium and holding up the team jersey n stuff....n the other cut scene could be for big free agent signings....instead of having them have a meeting with the gm..u know like show a cut scene where the player is holding up the team jersey and putting up a fake smile at the press
of course just make the title cut scene awesome...
other than that...maybe have better starting lineup cut sequences...but really i dont see the point of any other cut scenes...I mean we play the game...we dont watch it rite...its not like a movie...
n I totally disagree...the PC is fun to play on....u prolly are too stupid to use a PC sho89mtx

Just ban this guy, I'm yet to see him post without using "ESPN" in a sentence.

How does one go to a EA Summit and not experience that putback dunk with the ball well out of sight even once? If you're doing the All-Star game, this happens all the time! I sure hope EA noticed and fixed this issue.

maybe a feature to turn off cutscenes in the future if they put some in for dynasty...
Tue Sep 14, 2004 3:58 pm
There was an option to disable them in NBA Live 2004. I never bothered as I made few big trades in my Dynasty games and trades where you do not receive a player with a fairly high overall rating generally automatically skip the cutscene.

Hey if live looks awesome and plays awesome, i'll be the first one on here to say so, last year i told everyone that i was suprised on how much better the graphics were than the year before, but it still didn't look as real as espn, and that's why i like espn better last year, i just hope it looks better, i'm downloading the gameplay videos right now of live and i'll give you my honest opinion afterwards of them....
You got really quiet all of a sudden... Looks like he's not ready to face reality of the matter...
If you want realistic cut scenes in between quarters and something that would seem like it will break for a commercial break. Just turn off that xbox of yours and tune into an NBA game and see how Big Ben actually does sweat and all those cool animations etc. And you don't even have to do anything but marvel at the GREAT graphics of the television broadcast!
Maybe next year ESPN will add actual commercial breaks between quarters as you love all that eye candy so much... You should really go suggest that to your ESPN overlords. As you are but a pawn in their plans, an underling, a henchman, what ever you want to call yourself...
TELEVISION IS NEVER COMPARABLE TO THE MONITORS THAT ARE USED ON PCs... Sit two feet away from the telly and then tell me that the graphics are silky smooth... Dumb ass...
ESPN 2k6 best improvement: ACTUAL COMMERCIAL BREAKS BETWEEN QUARTERS!!!

great idea ~~~ !!
on top of that, how about implementing some others realisitc things in-game.
1) sudden cut-off of electricity. it could happen randomly. And then you have to wait for 10 minutes to resume the game, you (and the players in game) have a chance to rest.
2) reset false clock. In reality, the shot clock or the game clock will have problems sometime. So to make it realistic, better add this feature.
3) In the all-star game, you can have celebrities singing or having a speech before the game and during half time break. And of course, they should have realisitc cyberfaces and details,
and also the body shape (player model?) have to be realisitc (because someone thinks that these are the selling points of ESPN, right?)
4) This should be the most important one. Synchronization of the game schedule with the real NBA games. All the thing in the game is REAL TIME, if you miss a game, you lost that game. wow, exciting !!!!

..
im gonna add to that wishlist
1)Nba Players buying guns and get sent to jail(rodney, jailblazer crew)
2)Sluts accusing players of rape(kobe)
3)Have pre-shows, where they show Stephen A. Smith and the ESPN crew talking(ideally 30 mins long)
4)Show players weddings
5)Show Shaquille O'Neal music videos as half time interludes
hmmmmm wonder what else they should have
Tue Sep 14, 2004 7:29 pm
What if they just steal the game engine for Grand Theft Auto and replace all of the characters with NBA players? That way they get plenty of cut scenes to distract everyone from the fact that the game blows.
Tue Sep 14, 2004 7:33 pm
maybe they should integrate The Life ...n every week u'll be allowed to watch a computer animated version of ESPN's The Life ...
or maybe they can have special addons for diff cities...like if you choose portland...u can go around the streets and help promote drug trafficing among b-ball players
