Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

Damn. I wish that EA could have various covers, like these! Once again, they look awesome!
Tue Sep 07, 2004 1:16 pm
Here's another one... I'm not a big fan of Kobe, but I know there's a lot of Kobe lovers out there. This one is probably my most dramatic one, hopefully not too dramatic. Again, thanks for the comments, they are greatly appreciated, and I didn't expect so many after the Jordan cover.

Thanks again!
Now that you mention it carsley, I'd love to work with EA on design aspects in the game since I've been a die-hard gamer for years. Osei, I think EA would use Jordan on the cover if they could get into a contract agreement with him. Jordan is still huge these days, especially internationally. He would sell like hotcakes if he was on the cover of Live.

Cyanide, you've got a BIG future in graphic design. I ignored this thread for some time now assuming it was about Parker and Gasol, but WOW! I'm absolutely blown away and my hands down favorite is Magic and Bird, it has a nostalgic feeling but also captures the mood of the game. They're all great, here's how I rank them:
1. Bird vs. Magic
2. Jordan
3. Kobe
4. LeBron
Wow, what does a brother have to do to recruit you for a signature using your immense skills? I'm really impressed!

Hey guys. im new here. I mostly post at a site called OS. you should know what that is by now, with all the interviews and stuff.
I posted some Covers that i did, and saw this thread. I might as well post these for the die hard nba live fans, mainly all those who visit this site.
here goes nothing: (All Credit goes to
G8rjosh@hotmail.com for orinigally creating a NCAA football 2005 template for alternate covers. He's the man!
I make them for whomever requests a player.. It's just a small hobby. I try, though, to make the covers as realistic as possible...
These are more on the lines of "console covers" but if you take away the ps2 and xbox template marks, its PC all the way.

Thanks very much Dre Naismith! I've been trying to expand my creativity with some of these covers and I'm glad you noticed I tried to create a nostalgic atmosphere with the classic matchup of Bird vs. Magic. Check your PM regarding a signature for you
WallyHopp, the covers remind me of the covers I made last year for 2004 where I created an array of players within the same template. The background looks very much like the original covers

and the players are positioned well within the box. My only critique would be the size of the images are too large, revealing the jagged lines of the player shapes (which are hard to hide of course). I'm glad to see other covers other than my own posted!
Tue Sep 07, 2004 3:25 pm
Thanks. you do good work too.
Mainly though, those templates are for people to print out. so the size needs to be big. the original template is twice that size. The size I have now is manageable nut mainly for display only. I like to work with 5in. x 7in. @ 300dpi. It's hard finiding quality images though, as you can tell by the jagged lines.
Tue Sep 07, 2004 3:31 pm
Yeah, I tried to get mine in a suitable size for viewing as well as printing (after resizing without sacrificing too much quality). I don't know if it depends on monitor resolution on other users, but hopefully my sizes aren't too bad for printing. I know yours will be just fine for printing

And I agree, it is very, very difficult to find large & good quality pictures on the net.

Wussup Cy! I just PMed you back and I have to say I was surprised you got back to me so quickly, thank you! I hope what I outlined in the message doesn't prove to be too daunting or impossible but these covers have really inspired me!
Keep 'em coming man, great work!

i would have to completly agree with Cyanide's list. i think the top 2 are miles ahead of the lebron one(though the lebron one is closest to the real thing) and the kobe one is a bit ahead of lebron also but cant touch the top 2. just my opinion though.
Wed Sep 08, 2004 9:54 am
i remember i made an yao ming one, in the shanghai sharks jersey, but i can't find it anymore. damn!

Actually it's Dre Naismith's list

It's kind of weird that even though LeBron's cover is closer to the actual Live 2005 cover, it seems the reception is more well-recieved on the old school and Jordan one. Maybe it's time for EA to change their covers to appeal to today's market, or maybe the Jordan cover's biased for two reasons: Jordan is the greatest and most popular basketball player ever, and that dunk looks amazing even without the touch-ups.
Dre: I finished the sig and avatar, you can check it out now. Check your PM

lmao your right, it was his list. ok its time i put the crack pipe down and get back into reading.

Cyanide, you'd be doing EA a favor if you blessed them with your outstanding work man, for real. That Jordan dunk looks absolutely wonderful because we all have that dunk ingrained in our collective basketball memories, CLASSIC. Though, you know what cover I'm most partial too!
The sig that you made for me?

The ONLY change I want is the color of the text made to be black but that's it, I PMed you about it roughly 10 minutes ago....... The avatar is perfect, just perfect!
Incidentally, does anyone know how to make the NLSC timeclock show in East Coast (USA) time?

True, but too bad EA would never allow that. They have professionalls to do that, people they hire to do that. Not for nothing Cyanides box covers are good, but they arent anything EA would use. The only thing they'd use is the LeBron or the HUGES one(like the Marbury)
The people they hire don t do speciail effects even which is weird(like the Kobe one)
But yeah..his work is good..and I know you wont care what I wrote but I felt like it anyway

Why wouldn't I care?

You're right, EA would never allow that which is unfortunate......

I love the Magic-Bird and the Jordan ones.
How about Dr. J?
Thu Sep 09, 2004 9:47 am
The Future: You are right about that, EA and basically every other business hires professionals. I'm still a student, but when I graduate (unless I go onto masters), I will become a professional that's ready for the world of graphic design. But of course, it'll probably take a few years to accumulate career experience before I'll try knocking on EA's door. EA's style might change years down the road, a transition from my LeBron James cover to even the Kobe one if they decide to go flashy. It all depends on what the client (EA) wants on the cover to reflect their identity (right now, it's professional and no-nonsense). Personally, I think a bit of a tweak on their current covers would be a good risk to take if they want to increase profitability...
sixerfan03: I'd make Dr. J, or any other covers, but I think I'm done with the covers for now. I just started school and it's a little overwhelming since I have so many studio courses and so little time these days. Sorry dude!

Wussup Sauru, I figured it out.
- Go to your profile and select the time feature "GMT"
- When the long list pops up via the window, choose GMT - 4 hours
- It should then read the correct time for posts, etc.
