(above post) say what?

It's a reference to a long running joke in the general forums in the original forum.

Wed Aug 18, 2004 3:44 pm

I got two questions.

What did the net look like in the game? Did it look more realistic, or did it have the net from NBA Live 2004 and down?

Did freestyle air seem easy to abuse, or did you notice any high offensive rebounding numbers?

FOR LUDACRIS

The Rim and net is now fixed and you can see a swiss & smooth moving net in the latest trailer of nba live. It is awesome dude!! check the link on my signature..

I think the freestyle air will not abuse the defense because the gameplay is fixed also..

but you are still able to do jason kid's 360 lay-ups, switch layups to dunk, or switch hands as you go up in the air? cuz i read something like that somewhere and that prerendered movie showed jason kid doing 360 layup. anyone?

Thu Aug 19, 2004 8:44 am

Ok, i read it from EA sport's interview with the producer of 'nba live 2005'. its on their nba live 2005 website. you can also see the jason kid's 360 layups here;http://Gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_nbalive_2k5_e3_2k4.wmv
i know most of you all saw it but im curious to know if you can really do it in game play.
EA SPORTS: What is EA SPORTS Freestyle Air?

Tim Tschirner: EA SPORTS Freestyle Air extends Freestyle Control to the air.

With Freestyle Shooting you now decide whether you want to rebound, dunk or tip-in a missed shot attempt. In the past this was decided by the CPU for you, but now you have full control -- press the Jump button to grab the Rebound, press the Shoot button to tip it back in or press the Dunk button to attempt a put-back. This helps tremendously with Offensive Rebounding and makes battling for position in the post much more important.

In addition, when you go up for a dunk or a lay-up and you see a defender attempting to block your shot you can alter it in mid-air and switch from a lay-up to a dunk or from a dunk to a lay-up.

EA SPORTS: Are those the only additions to Freestyle Control?

Tim Tschirner: Absolutely not -- we've added quite a few other things as well. Freestyle Control is in its third year and there are a lot of brand new moves that put even greater control in your hands. A completely reworked Post Freestyle move set combined with further player differentiation and signature move packages on the perimeter create the deepest Freestyle system to date.

You'll also notice that CPU players now utilize the complete Freestyle move set often and very effectively -- they can do every move that you'll be able to pull off.

I hope EA will keep their words this year.

This is one of the greatest videos I have seen of the game this year. I noticed how the pass lob off the dribble was authenitc looking. The reverse lay up was awesome. The net moves now. This is poised to be a grreat year for Live. I can't wait. Now wait til I post my wishlist for 2006. It has already been started. Keep this up EA and give us some Madden style Dynasty mode and you will never have to worry about anyone buying ESPN again. :D

LAST FEW QUESTIONS FOR MR. SHANE:

- Did they fix the court size, wider now than 2004??

- So the crossover moves i saw i d trailer will be there?? In 2004 the freestyle moves & dribbling were not that hot. So we will see new freestyle & SIGNATURE moves??

- Players' faces are great now. But are they going to fix the unproportional arms like Yao ming?? They should add muscles too..

- The cutscenes in 2004 were few & not so nice.. Could u remember any awesome cut-scenes u saw?? Will there still be cut-scenes during trading, drafting or releasing a player??

- Lastly, will there be an introduction of players during elims?? Or only during playoffs like in 2004?? Is it better than last year's INTRO???

THANK YOU SO MUCH & GOD BLESS!!!

when's the last time Shane has posted here? I don't think he is answering anymore questions. Unless I'm wrong.

That video was pre-rendered. Most of the animations you saw in that will most probably not make it into the game so don't get too excited.

Is there mulitiplayer option in dynasty? Meaning I take control of one team and my brother another.

Wed Aug 25, 2004 1:47 am

couple of questions if your still answering em

are there referees?
did you see anyone hit anything from past midcourt?

no, not this year, they told us that this is more complicated then just flipping a swtich...they are planning on it in the future...i wish they had this also.

dont remeber seeing any deep buzzer shots make it in, but we didnt have the chance to play too many games....i dont remeber much about the referees, they may have been there, i think i remeber seeing one during free throws, but i may be wrong.

peace

Fri Aug 27, 2004 2:59 pm

if there is one thing that i would like live to make completely unrealistic is those buzzer beaters from like half court...

i dont mean every game but i would love to hit a bomb from deep once in a while to close out a quarter

i dont think i saw one deep beater in all the time i plated 04

Sorry I've been MIA, between my girlfriend moving here, classes starting, and work, I haven't had much time to post.

Thanks for answering questions, Eric (ratman, right? ;)).

I'm just making a real quick post, get this page of questions.

HI Shane! did you try the take charge button? Does it still work in the post? Last year when someone back you down you can just simply press the take charge button to get him fouled. That's redicules! Does this bug still exist in the build or did the producer talk about this issue?

It's not as easy to take charges this year. THey were still tweaking the fouls, so it wasn't perfect, but there will be, from what I could tell, an amount of blocking fouls comparable to the NBA.

Hey Shane, I think it was you who mentioned that you didn't see off-the-ball screens or curls. I could've swore that I saw EA say those would be in this year's game. Maybe I'm mixing up ESPN and Live. Did you ask the developers about off the ball screens or hard cuts to the basket withouth the ball? I'm guessing that's not something that could be added to the game at this point if it's not already there.

I don't think I said anything about this, but I'll see if I can shed some light on this. Computer and computer teamates make cuts to the hoop. The off the ball screens, well, I didn't really see too many, but I know I did see some...however, those might have been part of set plays. I'm not sure. However, because of the whole 10 player mocapping they did lastyear, and what seems to be a bigger court and minus the catchup bug, the AI in regards to off-the-ball movement seems much improved.

LIVE 05 the primacy ratings are built into the game and you cannot modify them?!

You can't modify them in the game, but you can still get to it in a DBF editor.

Any new Legends besides the Dunk Contest ones?

No idea.

hv u noticed while on defense ur controlled player being drawn (magnetized) into a double-team against ur will? dis is one of the many issues with Live 2004 and I hoped they fixed dis (if in case u cant confirm it in 2005).

I didn't really notice this. Then again, I never really had a problem with this, as when a double team happened, I wanted it to. I really don't know, I didn't play the game enough.

hv u seen a double-team for a certain period of time just like in Live2004 where the ball just rolls over the floor outside of the ensuing double-teaming defensive play (the ball leaving the scene of the crime when the double-teamed player doesn't pass outside 2 a teammate in time)?

Yeah, that's still there. It only happened once or twice, though. Usually it just resulted in a crappy pass, and once, if I remember right, the guy stepped out of bounds, as he was doubled in a corner.

was it confirmed that they fixed the NCAA draft class?

that the players aren't overated when uploaded to the dynasty.

Didn't think to ask, as March Madness is the suck, and I didn't use draft classes.

Shane,

Have they fixed the player of the month and rookie of the month bug? As well as the end of season awards. Do we now have a player of the week award? Thanks.

This seemed right, actually. There wasn't anymore starters getting sixth man or anything like that, and the best players got the awards. They added 1st and 2nd teams, too (NBA, Defensive, Rookie (I think rookie)). I could be dreaming, correct me if I'm wrong, Tim or Sam.

I just have one question regarding the long range passes....how often do they make long range passes, and are they easier to be missed/intercepted?
'Cause i remember last year, almost all the long range bombs would make it to their target, which was rather unrealistic

I don't know, I don't usually throw hail marys, so I didn't get the chance.
*shrug*

1. I saw the three dunk contest tutorial videos over @ IGN - I was wondering if those would be in the game.

Yup. They help, too.

2. Can you see stats of games that you simulate? (Like in live 2004 I would try to get Nowitzki Player of the month award, but If I simulated the last few games of the month - I couldn't figure out how many points he had scored in those games.

Yup, there's boxscores for each game. I don't remember if you can only view them for one day's games in the PS2/XBox/Gamecube versions, but I know it saves them for the month or year on the PC.

3. While I'm on the matter of calculations - Did you by any chance see the calculator back (Some of you old schoolers might remember it from LIVE 99)

Aw, shit, I remember that, and no, I don't recall seeing it. Be cool if they had it, though, cause sometimes I feel the need to balance my check book while playing. ;)

4. Are there like movies or anything at halftime?

I skip 'em, so I don't really care..there were some, I think, but I skipped them...so yeah.

5. Do players get trophies in the trophy house for winning 3 point contest or Slam Dunk etc.

Maybe, not sure.

6. Is the short fadeaway still automatic with Nowitzki, Garnett, and Duncan like players? (In my dynasties I could always count on knocking down 90-100% of 10 foot fadeaways over anybody with Nowitzki - no blocks either. Has anybody else experienced that

*shrug* Dunno, that isn't my style of play....I'm more of a drive and dish sort of guy, or swing the ball around the perimeter (which you can actually do!!!!). I don't do fadeaways unless I have to...although, I did notice that VC's damned good at them from about 15 foot...I didn't make 90-100% of them, though, probably about 50%.

One thing that as far as I can tell has not been asked yet - are sign&trades possible in Dynasty Mode?

No. They're trying to get everything else right in the dynasty mode before they overhaul the trade engine.

Also, any comments from the producers on the netcode, especially for PC? While 2004 was an improvement over earlier versions, there is still a lot left to be desired regarding smoothness.
And while we are at it - can you finally set the same sliders in MP? Last year, MP only allowed you to change certain sliders, not all of them.

I really don't know. I'm not a net-multiplayer guy, so I couldn't really comment on it there because I just don't know about it...I'm sure it's improved, but I don't know how much.

Is the AI smarter with inbounding the ball this year, I remember one game where the CPU was down one and ignored Reggie Miller and gave it to Jermaine O'Neal two feet outside the 3-point line for a turn around. That's one of my major problems with the game. Glad to hear the post moves seem to be better.

Yeah, they fixed the passing logic some. In that situation, I don't know, but they did make it so they don't automatically pass the ball to the point guard to bring the ball up. I also talked to them about modifying the small forward only passing thing.

Did dynasty's simulate logic change ? or improved ?

Homer, the stats I'm not sure on...the ratings are the last thing they do, so everything was still fucked like last year's after the first season. Hopefully after they fix the ratings, it'll be OK, but I really don't know. I know exactly what you're talking about with Madden, though, and i hope Live goes that way.

dnztravis:

1. Yes...
2. By performing well...wins, etc.
3. I don't know
4. It's so minor...it doesn't matter.
5. I don't think so
6. Yes.
7. I don't remember
8. Nope, your franchise doesn't make money.
9. no
10. Probably
11. I don't know

When your over the cap do we finally have a mid level exception ?

lower level would be nice too altough i'd be satisfied if we atleast get the MLE ...

No. They want to add it badly, though. Soon, hopefully.

What did the net look like in the game? Did it look more realistic, or did it have the net from NBA Live 2004 and down?

They redid it, but the build we played it was fucked....they hadn't implemented it yet.

I gotta shower and study, see ya kids...
