Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

You must be mistaking me for BigBen or Sho, because I don't go around here promoting ESPN. In fact, none of the ESPN fans here have even said that it will be better than Live 2005. Only the Live fans have jumped to conclusions, saying that their game is better -- when it hasn't even come out!
I could really care less about what I see in replay screenshots now. They're getting old, so it's nothing to get excited or disappoitned about. I'd prefer something like this by now:
BIGBEN2K5
You want real NBA simulation?? ESPN 2k5 will give it! updateLIVE GAMERS SHUD READ THIS!! ESPN 2K5 WILL ROCK U DUDES!!!sho89mtx
espn is gonna beat live once again. here's proof! Please download those video and tell my live is gonna look better than epsn this year. hahhahahahhahaha, it's over once again. Oh well we can always use Live for the new dunk contest feature, that should eat up some hours playing
I think those are some reasons why people don't like these guys, if you want to post the stuff you can't come in insulting people and saying your game will get beat again etc, that's just stupidness.

Yes, they might have said some things that are out of line. But they haven't failed to give Live credit. Heck, they even said they were buying both games.
Thank you, Sauru, for your compassion. I'd like not to be put in the same category as Sho or BB2K5, due to the fact that only a small percentage of my 800+ posts have been on topic to ESPN video games.

Well BIGBEN2K5 is Pfm, so I don't know about him, he bothers me
sho at least makes some sense when he posts, except for the whole graphics making a game thing, that was kinda odd

They're both annoying as all hell. Show me one thread where they don't mention ESPN.

Oh dear, BigBen... Your precious ESPN is failing on the graphic side as well... Live images look a lot better when comparing these last two messages.
Live pictures are no doubt PC images, but hey, ESPN ain't got nothing to throw at that.
I'll have to give you this... ESPN has better cyberfaces than EA, but that's about it.
And what's with Bibby coming to complain about a bad game... With 1-8 start it might be valid, but he looks like he's there to boast about something and happy with the current situation. No miserable about a poor game... What's with that??? I know that a screenshot is a screen shot, but why would you pic a picture like that. It just looked weird to me as a single picture. With motion, it's probably ok.
With the latest batch of pictures you can easily see the pre-rendered ones when comparing them to the actual gameplay ones... Take a look at LeBron, Cassell and compare them to the gameplay pictures and it would look like they are from two different games. And in the gameplay pic with Cassell (I think) is shooting from way out, the guy defending him is jumping to block with both hands?!?? That's just not the way anyone does it, unless it is not a shot blocking attempt.
This is what I've been going on about for some time now... It doesn't matter what kind of nice PR pics they can muster up for use... Cause they can easily be modified to look better than in reality.

Andrew, despite your warnings, bigben2k5 has been doing the same thing.. he keeps on advertising espn nba 2k5. instead of discussing, he keeps posting screenshots. i hope that he would be banned.

I guess B-Double remains undaunted, huh? Honest opinion, what a great move by Sega implementing the"personality types" and text where you have to deal with players! I'm not afraid to give credit where it's due (Stephen A. Smith style) HOWEVA.....
When the camera is panned out and you really see what 2K5 will look like during actual gameplay, it absolutely pales in comparison to Live's. For all this talk about graphics, graphics, graphics: Live apperas to be the champ for 2005.

i do admit that this IS realstic

the sweat....but ill still be getting Live

could someone please explain to me what this ability thing is? i see the pic where it says killer J, what does that mean? are these goals for players or like bonus abilities they get?
Sat Sep 18, 2004 7:17 am
When you sim, you have like 10 shots and you choose what type of shot vs what type of defense...something like that. It's like an RPG/Card Battle type game..kinda weird.
I have to admit...that personality thing is something I've been always wanting for a long time. But my hatred for ESPN fans still remains, so until that hatred disappears, I will not buy the game.

I disagree. If you compare the gameplay videos for both games, I think that ESPN's graphics look much smoother and detailed.

Yeah, I've seen all of those vids and pics and the sweat factor look nice this year! (they said they had a sweat factor in like 2k4 or 2k3, i cant remember, but it didnt work lol) and the pics look a little decieving because they make the jersey's look like they are wrapped in plastic-wrap, but if you watch videos, the jersey's look pretty damn real in my opinion.

Respectfully disagree glove, no way. Surprisingly enough Live has really stepped it up this year in the aesthetics department, great job EA Canada.

Bibby looks goofy and happy considering they are 1-8 and he had a bad game. The closeups look very good, but the actual game as we play from far away (panned out) doesnt look good. I bet the personalities are an interesting move for the future. However, this year I bet they are pretty limited in choices and get real old. After awhile, you won't care about pleasing personalities anymore. Since there are only 4 types. There should be at least 15 types.

Ok, judging from the movies I saw....ESPN 2K5 is crap

i just wanna know how come the espn fans seem to think that it looks way better than live. i dont see that at all myself. kinda looks goofy actually.

I have only played NBA Live(98-current) and I love the game. ESPN looks good espessially those pics of LeBron with the sweat on the jersey thats crazy. Lives graphics look good but the gameplay is what I am conserend with so maybe since ESPN is $20 I may play my first ESPN game. I am going to buy Live first and formost because I know it will be good.

My main reason for liking the graphics of ESPN over the graphics of Live is that the lighting seems better. Live, in my opinion, looks dark, and it doesn't look like there are any lights actually shining on the court.
Also, the player models(console only) look more realistic to me. Live players look too skinny, in my mind.

I agree, Live has something with the lighting.
They both have their flaws, but ESPN has less I think.
Live has the litghing thing, and the players are too skinny.
ESPN has the thing where the players kinda hunch over which is the only major thing with the ESPN graphics.
Mon Sep 20, 2004 12:13 pm
i can see all that. it was nice to actually read a reply that didnt have something like this in it " omg you are such a fag fanboy. anyone who likes lives graphics more is clearly an idiot. you should be shot"

Skinny... The players are skinny... They are not weightlifters, they are body lifters (jumping high). It takes a certain bodytype to do that at the level some of these athletes do it... If you have a humongous upper body (like everybody on ESPN) you can't jump as well. Have you seen the real NBA players??? They are really not that heavy looking... They really don't all look like bodybuilders.
I'd say that the average NBA player is rather skinny than a body builder. Remember that the 230 pounds isn't that much for a guy who's 6'9"... There are the bigger guys, like Shaq, Kemp etc. that are really big in all proportions, but most of the players are skinny in real life in comparison to their height... So I'd say EAs got it right, not ESPN...
These are ballplayers, not Arnolds friends from the eighties...

I watched some of the videos for ESPN and Live on IGN, and I have to say that ESPN is impressive.
2K5 is much more stylish and polished, IMO -- the replays are better done, the commentary is more fluid and follows the action better, and the half-time and post-game stuff are incredible (at least relative to Live's half-time and post-game stuff, which is essentially nothing as far as I know).
It's difficult to judge which has more realistic gameplay as far as how the teams run their sets and the ways the player's perform -- but Live seems more realistic from the limited footage I've seen of the CPU playing.
ESPN post play looked REALLY cool. Yao working in the post looked like he does in real life. I wonder if those were animations were customized to look like Yao. The animation down low, overall, is superior in ESPN. Dribbling moves and shooting looks better in Live, though.
The players are shaped kind of funny in ESPN. They're too muscular and they hunch. Other than that, though, the graphics are better in ESPN compared to Live. Other's opinion could differ, of course.
I have to say that the ESPN footage impressed me more, overall. Mostly its due to the extra polish and style of the presentation -- it felt more like an actual TV presentation. Of course, the most important thing is actual gameplay and how accurate a BASKETBALL simulation the game is, and for that Live might have the edge. But its too early to be sure on that, from the limited footage available.
Anyways. my 2 cents.
