Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

Stuff from the guy at operation sports. DueceDiggla
Some random notes.
3 point contest was pretty fun and would be a very cool mode to play with friends. It was very easy though. I played on All-Star and Superstar and was knocking down shots with no problem. You press the RT trigger to pick up the ball, then press I think X to jump and then let go when you want to release it.
Dunk contest is fun as hell, and there are a ton of different dunks you can pull off. It sounds like something that would be limited in regards to what you can do, but its really not. There is a practice dunk mode to pretty much ummm......practice. You can play All-Star weekend mode and compete against the AI. Players with higher dunk ratings like Desmond Mason and Jason Richardson will be easier to dunk with, rather then dunking with a guy lie Gerald Wallace. Not to take anything away from Wallace, but he is not as good of a dunker as the other two. When you are in the air attempting a dunk it slows down a little like "Bullet Time" ala Max Payne. This gives you a little time to press whatever buttons you want to press to pull of a sick dunk. When you crank it up to the highest difficulty there is no "Bullet Time" and everything is on the fly. I can only imagine how hard that must be considering I was having trouble doing a basic one handed dunk.
You can't just chose any player to practice dunks or do Slam Dunk competition. Each team has about 2-5 players that are able to play that mode. Pretty much the best dunker's on each team. They were thinking about allowing every player to be used, but it wouldn't look right pulling off a 360 with Darko. You can create a player and add him to the dunk competition, as long as his dunk rating is about 80 I think.
There are old school players from the 80's and 90's that you can do the Slam Dunk mode with. Spud Webb, Scottie Pippen, Dominique Wilkens, Dr. J etc.....There are more, but I can't remember.
Like I said before, the in game graphics are so much better then last year. Jerseys and shorts move. The game overall looks brighter.
Animations are still great. There wasn't one animation in the game that looked remotely off. Everything seemed completely life like.
Yao is a beast in the game. T-Mac and Wade are also pretty awesome. Shawn and I played Heat (me) vs. Denver (Shawn). It was very fun going to work with Wade. Shaq was also pretty dominate in the post as well. Shawn threw down some nasty power slams with Kenyon, and almost won it behind the play of Melo, but he ended up getting injured. It was a good game, with me winning of course.
The menu was re-done. It looks alot cleaner then last year, and easier to navigate through.

I agree with you on that. I'd like it to be a little more realistic crowd wise, people are obviously going to watch LeBron in his rookie year.

Well...since we know that Jordan most likely won't be in the game, a new question: any NEW Legends players added? (besides the dunk team ones)

I know....I know.... another question you might say...well...yes

:
How the pass look in this game ?
Is there any blind pass, behind the back, fakes ?
Can you make a shot from down town ?
'Cause in the 2004, it was impossible from behind the midcourt.
Did you see some creativity in the air ?
(Jordan like, windmill layup behind the board for ex.)
How the bad 3pointers shoot this year ?
In the 2004, their shot wasn't realistic, it looked like a "get rid of the ball shot" !
I know it was a lot of questions, but that'll be all.
Thanks again, and good luck !

EA owns the rights to jordan's likeness...last i heard. Just cause he wont be in nba street v3 doesnt mean he wont be in this.

I heard that because Jordan is not part of the retired players association then the NBA can't give EA the liscense to put him in the game. Not sure if it has truth to it, though.

Yep, that's what EA told the summit people. No Jordan.

Not even in the 90's all stars?
PS. It would be nice to add the 00's all stars.

A couple of things
In your own perspective of the game (NBA Live 2005) do you think it will still have a bit of the same SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS for PC users..
if not will it be very much higher.?
How do you reckon the keyboard controls will be in this version? did the developer talk about this in the summit?????
Wed Aug 11, 2004 2:18 am
What is in-air collision like? And shooting fouls? In 2004 they would call fouls but if you look in replay, the player is half a foot away from the defender.

Definitely too soon to tell...

good question, how are mid air collisions. in 2004 they happened probably 50% of the plays, maybe more. it was stupid. i even turned the slider to 0 and they still constantly happened. almost never got a foul call either.

NBA Live 2005 Cover Athletes Signed (Multi) "Electronic Arts announced today that NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Tony Parker, and Pau Gasol will serve as global spokesmen for NBA LIVE 2005, scheduled for release this fall under the EA SPORTS brand."

Is there new cameras ?(i think not)
if ,what kind of?

I just have a couple of questions.
First off... for us PC users... is there an in-game save feature? You mentioned the ability to sim quarters and then jump in at any point afterward. But for dynasty mode, season mode, etc... can we save between quarters? My wife hates the fact that I choose a full 82-game schedule with full 12-minute quarters and I have to finish a whole game in one shot. Please tell me they resurrected this important feature...
Also, you didn't mention the shot-blocking freestyle. Can you actually control the shot block?
Finally, how good are the tip-in animations? They look terrible in the trailers... is there just one main animation or are there several?
Thanks again... Vancouver's beautiful, isn't it? How far from the downtown core and oceanfront is EA Canada?

We didn't really discuss the PC requirements and I don't think EA will know exactly what they will be until closer to the final release for the PC. With the improvements that EA has implemented into the game I would expect the requirements to be incrementally higher...similar to the increases for other years.
The keyboard controls are a challenge for EA each year. It simply does not work very well to map an analog control motion to a button push...since comparing analog to digital is like comparing apples and oranges. The consensus from the NBA Live community members at the summit (not EA) was that you can not fully enjoy the game without the proper equipment...which in this case is a dual analog controller.
I would speculate that if you were to use a keyboard for control you would be able to perform a number of dunks in the dunk competition but would be limited in the ball tosses that you can do (since the ball tosses are all done on the right analog stick).

I can not say for certain that the in-game save is not in the game...but I did not see it in the Xbox version we played and I personally do not expect to see an in-game save feature for the PC. I think the simulation intervention feature (the ability to sim a few quarters and then jump in at any point afterward) is your best option...
Realistically, and again I am only speculating, I wouldn't expect to see an in-game save feature until maybe the PS3 and Xbox2 platforms come out...since those consoles will each have storage devices that would allow EA to implement an in-game save for all platforms. The effort required to create an in-game save feature would really only be viable if the feature could be included in all versions of the game.
I thought I would mention that I have just posted part 2 of my
report. Between Shane, Eric, and myself we have managed to cover most of the juicy information about NBA Live 2005

. I think we’ve all got more information to share...but nice work so far guys

...

Phew...well, DaNet's taken care of the majority of the questions...I honestly don't feel like typing out a long thing on the dunk contest, as DaNet and the others have already talked about All-Star weekend. However, I really, really had fun with it and think that my friends will actually want to pick up a PS2 controller with me when I'm playing NBA Live because of it.

Also, DaNet's disclaimer (about the time spent in studio etc.) is much more thorough than mine. I'm hitting a busy time for me now that I'm back, so I don't have too much time to make massive posts.

I pry misremembered some stuff, too...now that I've read over DaNet's report, so if something we said disagrees...go by what he said.

I'll answer any questions I can, though.
Wed Aug 11, 2004 11:12 am
I don't know if this question has been answered so forgive me if I make you repeat yourself

, but how are the in-air collisions. In 2004, there were way too many. And a player like shaq would get effected by a small Point Guard

. Is this problem fixed

?
Wed Aug 11, 2004 11:29 am
Yeah, good job guys! You gave us tons of informations so far...thanks a lot!!
Wed Aug 11, 2004 12:24 pm
Thanks a lot!
some questions:
In the dynasty mode, if your team is eliminated from the playoff
(or even not qualify to enter the playoff),
would it go directly to the off-season, or you will have a month of free time for scouting players, managing the team, etc?
can you set strategy BEFORE playing the game
how can you gain dynasty points? is it the same as this year?

I got another one here...
For Slam Dunk Contest
Does the Jumbotron work? I mean does it really show the dunks your doing just like in the videos. Do they serve as real jumbotron now like what they are showing in the videos?
