i think player ratings should be relatively correct if compared with all other players in the league except the legends or allstars. ex. tim duncan and shaq both has the highest inside scoring ratings in the nba live. this implies that no one from the current players can score as well as them. this i think is a fact.

my point is there is no way kevin garnett or pau gasols inside scoring close to that of duncan and shaq. i know that they are both good players but they can't be as dominant inside scorers even if they have the edge in quickness, etc.. i hope im right?

however i found some inconsistencies in other players ratings. im not saying they are all wrong. i just think you might want to check them out.

chauncey billups strength(51). same as jason williams. weaker than fred hoiberg. weaker than dan dickau.

nenad kristic strength(51). same as the above mentioned billups and j.williams. i'm not sure if kristic is strong but he must be really good to play center at that strength.

manu ginobilli def aware(68). same as tony parker. im sure ginobilli has better defensive awareness since he is a pesky defender. maybe a slight increase to 69 might be enough. although i dont think parker doesnt deserve his rating. he did a good job on hamilton in the final game when bowen was forced to guard billups.

robert horry block(38). same as laettner. i suggest bringing it back to default 41. he ranks .01 higher than rasheed wallace(80) per 48 mins. hi really think he's an underrated passer, stealer and blocker.

robert horry steal(54). brought down from default 70.
he is no. 19(rated 54) in steals per48mins. josh howard at no. 20( who is rated 65)

lebron james fg(80). same as paul pierce. higher than stackhouse, carmelo anthony, david wesley at 74. i know he shot a high percentage(partly because of dunks) last season. and i dont question his greatness but he still has to work on his shooting. the names mentioned are established scorers/shooters except for anthony(who i think is a better shooter than lebron).

brendan haywood ins. scoring(84). same as zach randolph and gasol.

david wesley def aware(77). higher than lindsey hunter(76).

sam cassel def aware(76). same as lindsey hunter(76) and rasheed wallace(76)(wow). higher than horry(75). i thought cassell can be a defensive liability.

stephen jackson def aware(54). lower than mike miller(55).

steve nash def aware(74). higher than greg buckner(63). i thought he was a liability.

stephon marbury def aware(73). higher than buckner(63). a liabily too i thought.

NOTE: unless mentioned, i don't suggest an increase or decrease. its up to you, i just make them easier to see so in case you should find the need to fix them.

tim duncan ft should be back to default 60, it doesnt matter if he can go perfect on a game and really bad on the next. he still improved this season. does he really deserve a steal rating 38(from the default 45)? just confirming.

comment to the amare request for higher block rating: i think his current rating is fine. i do agree that it was a great block(on tim duncan). but that doesn't change the fact that he still has very big need to learn defense. a single block won't make you a great shot blocker.

Sat Jul 09, 2005 1:53 am

im not sayin his block should be upgraded b/c of that block, Im usin that as a prime exampe of his fantastic blocking ability.

the thing about that, is that if these players go to another team via fantasy draft or trade/FA signing, their ppg are going to be drastically affected if the primacy is all under 40. i agree there's a problem with the iverson scoring issue in dynasties, but i don't think this is the best way to solve it.

Sat Jul 09, 2005 8:51 pm

these are lebron james ratings and my prosposed rating.

default 1.14 proposed

fg 63 80 73* lower than stackhouse(74).
3pt 58 62 62
ft 75 75 75
dunk 98 85 98* i dont think he has lost his -----------------------------------------------------------dunking as in the case of kobe ------------------------------------------------------------or tmac.
ins.scr 70 75 75
off.reb 25 40 40
jump 90 95 95
str 71 72 72
quick 72 82 81*
speed 77 83 82* lower than mobley(83). --------------------------------------------------------------------higher than j.terry.
pass 79 82 82
drib 70 77 77
off.aware 79 85 85
def.reb 57 62 62
stl 77 82 82
blk 31 32 31 actually went down by .8 from -------------------------------------------------------------03-04 season.
def.aware 60 67 66* better than stackhouse(65) but ------------------------------------------------------------lower than fisher(67)(good -------------------------------------------------------------------defender)
stam 75 85 ? he lead the league in mpg.
hard 75 75 75
prim 90 90 90

*ratings proposed to be changed

a few fishy ratings:

greg buckner def aware 63. lower than stackhouse(65) and van excel(66) and nash(74).

sam cassell speed 83. higher than jamal crawford, ginobilli both 82.

carmelo anthony ins.scor 70 should be at least increased up minimum 74. he lives in the paint. he makes a living out of putbacks. he ranks #9 last season in free throws per 48 mins w/c i think indicates good inside scoring. tim duncan is #10.

carmelo anthony higher off. reb 39 should be increased to at least 45. richardson(42) averaged lower.

caron butler higher off. reb 29 should be really increased to 40. he averaged same as lebron.

caron butler fg(74). same as stackhouse. it should be just around 72.

*note: i can't really say which rating is correct so i suggest you decide whether to increase this certain player rating or decrease the other. (eg i'm pretty sure buckner defends better than steve nash, so either you decrease nash' or increase buckner's). I just compare.
plus i suggest checking out the old players like cassell, payton, mutombo, etc. they should be slower.

richard hamilton stamina at 95 is too high. he's got the highest rating, so you probably have to increase every other player. he ranks only in no.15 minutes per game. in that case, you have to rate lebron and iverson at 99 w/c i dont think will be good.

ben wallace stamina at 90 also too high. prince averaged higher minutes per game.

Sat Jul 09, 2005 9:15 pm

The rebounding fo Carmelo is good enough. In NBA LIVE, Small Forwards tend to get alot of rebounds so no need for increasing Carmelo's.

Sun Jul 10, 2005 9:30 am

Thanks for the latest suggestions.

When he signs with a team, I'll create him.

Sun Jul 10, 2005 2:21 pm

Anderew could you make nba summer league rosters ?

Sun Jul 10, 2005 2:26 pm

No. Sorry, but as I've said once or twice now I don't have as much free time as I used to, certainly not enough to create a brand new roster patch from scratch.

Mon Jul 11, 2005 5:34 am

all of the rookies are over rated . lebrom jame was rated 65 when he was a rookie . NO ONE is this draft is better than lebrom james was in his rookie year.
I think the higest raitng someone should get is not higer than 65.

Marivin Williams rated 73 ??
Green rated 69 ??
Felton rated 69 ?
Bogut 73 ???

i think does ratings are not even close do what they should be .

ANyways could you try to make then not as good in your next update ?

Jameer Nelson needs an increase in FG and 3 pt. He hit 45% of his jump shots last year, shot an overall 45% from the field, and shot 50% when he started. He made basically the same number of 3 point shots as Francis did per game and they essentially shot the same percentage. He averaged 5 rpg in his starts as well. Good defender.
FG to 72
3 pt to 58
DReb to 50
OAware to 72
DAware to 63
Fatigue and Hardiness down 10 pts
Range to 25

DeShawn Stevenson could use a FG/3 pt boost as well. Good jump shooter, hit jumpers at a decent 41% (lowered because he took some bad shots) but merits a FG rating higher than 55. 3 point % was 37% (very good), but made only 1 for every 2 games, a small sample.
FG to 68
3 pt to 70
FT lowered a bit (he went from 69% to 55%)
OAware to 43
Dribbling to 52
Hardiness to 55
Range to 25
Fatigue to 45

Andre Barrett is a FA and will most likely be replaced by Travis Diener at backup point. Diener can really shoot the rock (FG/3 pt in high 70s) and is a good ball handler/playmaker. Could use some bulk.

shrwnt, be brave :P, you make excellent points, especially the DAware and Strength rating changes. You don't have to give an exact rating recommendation like I do (which is only because I'm updating my files while posting), but all of those deserve increases or decreases, even some of those of the players used in comparison.

Trenton Hassell:
Dunking to 60
Inside scoring to 52
Quick to 78
Range to 23
Hardiness, Fatigue down 20 pts each

Cassell's Hardiness/Fatigue should come down about 10-20 points as well. Ditto to Spree.

Nenad Krstic:
FG to 66
OAware to 65
Jumping to 56
Strength to 61
Range to 18
Fatigue to 50

Andrew Bynum from reports and pictures is a bit slimmer than previous believed to have been, so I modified the recommendations for his build. Less on the hips (a bit slimmer), but still a bit more on the arms.

Peter John Ramos:
Gained 30 lbs, stronger, bulked up, much more physically built
Image
Add some weight to him and bulk to his arms, increase his strength a bit.

Andrew, have you figured out a quick way to update the overall rating of a player after modification of the specific ratings? I don't really care about overall ratings, but having an inaccurate overall rating (such as Joe Johnson's, still below 70) affects trades, lineups, and fantasy drafts.
I know that if you edit a player's information or gear (such as adding headband, saving, then removing the headband), the player's overall displays correctly (I'm sure JJ would be over 75). But that's a real pain in the arse to do that for every player.

No. If you want ratings changes, please make specific suggestions. Furthermore, I greatly updated LeBron James in NBA Live 2004 as his original rating was far too low, though it wasn't 65.

FanOfAll: Thanks for the latest. In answer to your question, I always change player ratings from within the game so the overall always recalculates.

jasonkidd5vinsanity15: Thanks, but I keep up with the latest transactions. I'm a little hesitant to make too many moves right now, just in case some deals fall through, offer sheets get matched, etc. After July 22nd (when players should be able to sign new deals) I'll be moving them about much more freely. KOBETWO, I recognise some of those suggestions as ones I considered but ultimately decided against last time. In most cases my decision is final (at least for the meantime), so please don't keep suggesting the same changes when I've already declined to implement them. Thanks for the other suggestions though. Andrew can you check your rookies height and weight to make sure theyre accurate from this website http://www.nba.com/draft2005/board.html

thats the most accuratre stats about the rookies. You got a lot of wrong heights in your rookies and weights.

Well actually I think these suggestions of his are fair:
Sura Insc 57 Pass 64

J.Willams Strength 62 FG 45

Taylor FG 68 Daware 37

FG to about 62

Sweet Strength 87 Quick 59 Speed 57 Oaware 70 Stamina 50

Everything is good except OAware is some 10-20 pts too high.

Cato Insc 65 Jump 65

D.Howard Insc 74 Oaware 60

Inside scoring is fair, his OAware is fine as is. FG could use a boost of about 8 pts (numbers don't show it, but he has a nice jump shot).

Ruben Insc 62 Oaware 64

Only change the Inside Scoring...

D.Brown FG 68 3PT 63 Dunk 60

Luis Flores on the Nuggets has a very nice stroke. Up his FG and 3 pt ratings at least 10 pts each. OAware to 60 (instinctive offensive scorer), quick to high 70s, Range to 25, fatigue to 40.

Boris Diaw is a good ball handler and passer. Ball handling, dribbling to 68 or so. FG to 64. OAware to 60, DAware down to 70. Hardiness down to 50, range to 25, fatigue at 45.

Thank you, FanOfAll :P
(I`m a chinese, so please forgive my poor English  )

I have some questions:
What`s layup percentage refer to? Insc?
So what`s Insc really mean?

From your statement, Insc means the percentage that one`s score in the paint in his total shots.
But I think Insc should mean the ability but not the frequency.

Roster 1.14 does not work because of files birthtown.dbf and birthstate.dbf. In them is specified a birthplace beginner. Do Not think that this has principle importance.
It is Necessary to change these files on files from the other Roster.

i just noticed that nate robinson dunk rating is 10
it should be at least in 60s or above

Thu Jul 14, 2005 7:13 am

Gerald Green dunk rating should be at least 90 and his dunkpackage should be 12

after you watch this video it should pretty much explain why you sould change the ratings

Thu Jul 14, 2005 9:48 am

Gerald Green needs to be a bit skinnier around the hips.
