Game Crashes playing 3 point shootout in Dynasty Mode

Postby ajpyoung on Fri Dec 17, 2004 3:23 pm

Hi, is anybody experiencing a game crash/hang when playing the 3 point shootout during the all star weekend in Dynasty Mode after the 1st Season? During the First season the 3 point shootout works, but after the first season ... whenever I play the 3 point shootout the GAME just crashes and exits to WindowsXP... weird... the SLAMDUNK contest works in any season (played upto the 5th season using the Houston Rockets in Dynasty Mode), but the 3 point shootout does'nt work outside the 1st season.

ooh, and another thing that bugs me is that some of the players that the program generates as rookies sometimes have really big heads.... I mean HUGE HEADS like in an arcade or something...

hope you gurus have a fix for this... or something.

please post your PC specs.

However this looks more like a game bug then a technical failure. I'll look into in later.

be sure you have all the latest drivers installed: nforce drivers, nvidia, directx 9c .

that's prolly the most important part. Your graphic card isn't the greatest for running the game, but it should do the trick. But it's strange that it only happens after the first season.... Can you play it from the all-star menu without problems?

with that system, why aren't you using windowsXP??

it's far better for games and alot more stable.

Yep, I can play the whole all star weekend from the main menu... (choosing all star weekend) I can play slamdunk competition & the 3 point competition without problems in the main menu's all-star weekend submenu. That's where I practiced... (easier to replay after you get beat)

I'm running WinXP pro with SP2 as well, i have directx9c and the latest drivers from sparkle (the nvidia drivers won't recognize a 128MB vid memory for a GeForce 4MX 440 chipset), the mobo drivers are stock but so far all my other games are running fine. I'll try to download the latest Epox mobo drivers (or Nforce drivers), and try testing it from there.

Did what you told me to do, and the results of the dxdiag was No Problems found. So I guess everything should work out fine.

@ajpyoung,

From what I have observed in the previous replies here, you might not have a problem with your hardware and even your operating system. I agree with threatlockz. Perhaps it might be a failure on the part of the developers of NBA Live 2005, or the nVidia ForceWare developers might be at fault. The problem the graphics card manufacturers are facing nowadays is poor driver design. You might wanna try older versions of ForceWare drivers or these optimized drivers:

Evolution: http://www.driverheaven.net/showthr...7945#post477945
Prometheus: http://www.transmontanumms.com/overdrive/index.php?c=3

Try out the top three first. The last two aren't that established yet.

Another possible problem I can see is the roster patch. Try to play the game at its default rosters, then see if you won't exit to Windows.

Are you gonna buy it for me??
Have you seen how ridiculously high priced it still is? I'm hoping some1 will get it for me for christmas
well logicly thinking we are both running totaly diffrent OP's so that probably isnt the problem.

@ajpyoung:

you're not alone with that problem dude. lately, the same thing also happened to me! after the first season of the dynasty mode, whenever i would try to play the 3 pt shootout, the game crashes and i end up staring at my desktop! weird thing! hahaha!  i tried the direct-x diagnostics here in my pc and it also said "no problems found." same here dude, same here. hahaha!

I'm playing the new updated rosters... and btw I tried the new drivers from http://www.newgenerationorder.org/ and it did'nt help either... btw, I did a fresh install of WinXP Pro and SP2. now with the new drivers from http://www.newgenerationorder.org/ I notice that the shadows are left behind.

It would'nt really matter if the shadows are left behind if only the 3point game would play after the 1st season

Well thats nice for you but I'm not playing with updated rosters and I have the same problem.... so it aint the rosterpatches. logical deduction
Since you have soo much time on your hands maybe you would consider sending the EA tech support a question about this aswell maybe then they will get off their butts and start looking into this. Unless ofcourse you've allready done so and gotten the same response as I have
Sofar all i got was the usual response
Question : "Do you have the lastest drivers?".
Answer: "No I prefer playing with windows95 drivers. 95 was a good year"
Question :"Do you have the lastest version of directx???"
Answer :"No actually I dont like x-rated materials".
@ajpyoung Perhaps we should compare notes to c if we can find some common ground.

hmm.. this is weird... I've been playing with environments set to low and the 3 point shootout crashes, but the other day I changed it to high and now it works fine... weird. maybe it has to do with errors in the 3 point arena files

That was something I was thinking of myself but then thought surely the guys at EA cant be that stupid. Then again I have seen stranger stuff happen with games from EA

I checked up on this and same here well only I was playing with environment set to medium and setting this to high solved the problem.
Good find Qballer
So if you have this problem changing your environment detail settings to high or maximum should fix it.

You know what, as funny as it sounds... setting the environment detail to high did fix it... dang... this means I'll have to upgrade my video card so that it'll play a decent game

THANKS TO qballer for the 3point ball solution, another thing that's seems weird while setting the environment high... (THANKS TO curious101 for setting me up with the OC'd drivers - OC'd the GeforceMX4000 a 80-100MHz higher in the core and 50MHz higher in memory access)... gameplay seems better... dunno why.. and because of the OC'd drivers I don't need to upgrade my video card at all... gameplay seems acceptable enough. THANKS to the BOTH of you

I and some of my friends has the same trouble. After 1st year game crashes in Dynasty when 3 pt contest execution.. I think it's not driver or hardware related because we've tried plenty of configs and nothing changed. I think it's a Dynasty bug... And i still couldn't find the solution...
