Dynasty Trade Bug

Postby --- on Tue Apr 10, 2007 11:19 pm

I think I have found a pretty major bug in NBA Live 2005, at least my game.

CPU trades. In the DBF, there is a column called "TRADEABLE", which, when set to 0, allows a player to be traded.

The bug occurs when you load your saved dynasty, and stops players from being traded. Heres what happens:

I reset the rosters. I then save the newly reset rosters as "default". I then go into the "default" roster save and and open players.dbf with Open Office, scroll across to the TRADEABLE column and see there are no values inserted, just blanks.

I re-open Live and load up the Default roster I saved earlier. I then enter dynasty mode, choose a team, and run through training camp. I save my Dynasty right after training camp. I sim the season through the trade dealine, then check NBA News, and see there have been a few trades over the season thus far.

Now I know that if there is nothing entered into the TRADEABLE column in the dbf, the game assumes the player is tradeable.

I exit out of Live and open the players.dbf file inside my dynasty save, which I saved right after training camp. I scroll across to the "TRADEABLE" column. Now I see that after I save, the TRADEABLE column which was empty before, now becomes filled with "0" values. This is not a problem as "0" in the TRADEABLE column just tells the game the player is tradeable.

However, theres a problem. I load up my dynasty save from right after training camp. I sim through the trade dealine, then check NBA news. No trades by any teams, just signings/releases. Coincidence? Nope. I load up the dynasty time and time again, and everytime I sim through the trade deadline, no trades are made. Not even in the second season of the dynasty.

This is a major problem. If I load my dynasty at any point, trading will not work. I know it isn't the roster because I used EA's defaults. This means I would have to keep Live running 24/7 until the completion of my dynasty for any trades to occur. Even though the only change that occurs in the dbf when the problem arises is the TRADEABLE column being filled with 0's, this shouldn't effet trading at all, because a 0 just means the player is tradeable.

I have tried going into my dynasty save, deleting all the 0's and leaving it blank, but still no trades occur and once I load it up its all back to 0's. I don't remember this happening in any of my other dynasties, so I will re install my game and hopefully the problem will be solved (I have been holding back reinstalling, my disc 1 that starts the installation process is heavily scratched and may not work, leaving me with no game).

Could anyone lend any insight or ideas, or could someone try this with their own game and see if the bug occurs?

Thanks.

I just tried this, and I have the same problem, but I didn't check in the dbf.

Tell me if I did it right :
I made a new dynasty and saved it after training cemp, then simmed through it, and there was a couple of trades.
Then I loaded the Dynasty just after the training camp, simmed through it, and there was no trades.

This is quite a major bug!!

Yep, thats right.

Pretty major bug, but I will reinstall my game to make sure. I honestly never noticed it before and surely dynasty-ers that wrote their stories here when Live 05 was released would of noticed the fact there was no trades. I'll reinstall ASAP and hopefully it works out.

EDIT: Fresh install, no patches/rosters, just plan default. The bug still exists. I'm amazed to see this went completely undeteced until now (as far as I know).

I only have one more idea and thats too try using the official patch, hopefully that will do something.

I recently started a dynasty with the Spurs (and current rosters) on NBA Live 2005. I played through the whole season and the computers never traded (obviously with eight minute quarters playing all games I didn't finish it all non-stop in one playing). I thought it was just because everyone was over the salary cap with the updated rosters....and then I saw this thread. Pretty sad if this bug is the case. Hope someone finds a fix besides just playing GM only and straight through if you want to see the computers trade. But yea, all the computers did was release a few people and sign a few people in addition to the couple of them that I traded with.

EDIT: I am also running the official patch update so apparently that doesn't help.

You can always make some trades manually but it's not an ideal solution.

Damn!

I love dynasty mode, am just about to finish my first season and was already a bit confused by the fact that there have been no trades so far.

This is EA! They implement a feature etc. etc. but it is not working or has a major bug.

Gotta have a look myself if I find a solution but I am afraid that we have to live without cpu trades. A possibility could be to invent a trading system ourselves and throw dice to get trades. e.g. team A trades with team B player(s) C (and D) for players that have similar overall ratings and salaries.

Take a look at my "offseason problems"-thread...I am really disappointed that Live 2005's dynasty has so many bugs. :(

Ok, I simmed four or five seasons. There were some trades. Rookies got traded. But Kasib Powell was also traded for Ian Mahinmi. These players are not cpu-generated so we cannot say that this bug does not let the cpu trade players at all. Very odd.
