I think I have found a pretty major bug in NBA Live 2005, at least my game.
CPU trades. In the DBF, there is a column called "TRADEABLE", which, when set to 0, allows a player to be traded.
The bug occurs when you load your saved dynasty, and stops players from being traded. Heres what happens:
I reset the rosters. I then save the newly reset rosters as "default". I then go into the "default" roster save and and open players.dbf with Open Office, scroll across to the TRADEABLE column and see there are no values inserted, just blanks.
I re-open Live and load up the Default roster I saved earlier. I then enter dynasty mode, choose a team, and run through training camp. I save my Dynasty right after training camp. I sim the season through the trade dealine, then check NBA News, and see there have been a few trades over the season thus far.
Now I know that if there is nothing entered into the TRADEABLE column in the dbf, the game assumes the player is tradeable.
I exit out of Live and open the players.dbf file inside my dynasty save, which I saved right after training camp. I scroll across to the "TRADEABLE" column. Now I see that after I save, the TRADEABLE column which was empty before, now becomes filled with "0" values. This is not a problem as "0" in the TRADEABLE column just tells the game the player is tradeable.
However, theres a problem. I load up my dynasty save from right after training camp. I sim through the trade dealine, then check NBA news. No trades by any teams, just signings/releases. Coincidence? Nope. I load up the dynasty time and time again, and everytime I sim through the trade deadline, no trades are made. Not even in the second season of the dynasty.
This is a major problem. If I load my dynasty at any point, trading will not work. I know it isn't the roster because I used EA's defaults. This means I would have to keep Live running 24/7 until the completion of my dynasty for any trades to occur. Even though the only change that occurs in the dbf when the problem arises is the TRADEABLE column being filled with 0's, this shouldn't effet trading at all, because a 0 just means the player is tradeable.
I have tried going into my dynasty save, deleting all the 0's and leaving it blank, but still no trades occur and once I load it up its all back to 0's. I don't remember this happening in any of my other dynasties, so I will re install my game and hopefully the problem will be solved (I have been holding back reinstalling, my disc 1 that starts the installation process is heavily scratched and may not work, leaving me with no game).
Could anyone lend any insight or ideas, or could someone try this with their own game and see if the bug occurs?
Thanks.
