Blocking

Postby theace21 on Sat Mar 05, 2005 11:17 am

Is it just me or is the blocking in this game really messed up?

I mean today I was playing against the Rockets and in the dying seconds of the game I got the ball to one of my 7-footers who was wide open and right in front of the basket. I immediately got the player to dunk but then, from out of nowhere, a defender leaped up and blocked the dunk from behind and I ended up losing by 1 point. The block didn't even make sense and I have no idea why my player decided to throw a wide one-handed dunk that left the ball open. I've had several blocks of my own that have made absolutely no sense.

So I have a question... if I edit the game sliders a certain way will i be able to reduce the frequency of the unrealistic blocks because they are really annoying me.

The sliders will affect the number, but not necessarily the nature of the blocks.

even with 0 blocking on the sliders, your still gona get a lot of blocks, but at least it'll help to stop sum of the more rediculous ones

Exactly. You'll find that on the harder levels, the CPU will still have a much easier time making some difficult blocks than you do.

Yes in particular reducing the CPU's "Blocking Ability" and "Dunk/Lay-up Block Frequency" will help reduce blocking (just in case you weren't quite sure which sliders to change). You'll still see some rediculous blocks like said above.

Personally, i simply edited all the players block ratings.

Good shot blockers at 30-35.

Decent Shot blockers at 10-15

Poor shhot blockers 0, also virtually every sf to pg was 0 unless they were KG or something.

This decreased the amount of DUMB blocks, but not necesarily the amount of acceptable blocks, adjust the slider fot that.

Theace21....your playa did NOT choose to do a weak wide open layup/dunk. This is the animation that the game chooses to show when blocking your dunk / lay ups.

If it were possible we'd all be choosing straight forward two handed dunks, unblocakble Shaq style.

I read somewhere if you are underneath the basket do NOT attempt a dunk.

Instead do a Jumpshot. Dunks are very often blocked from behind. Jumpers cannot be blocked from behind in 2k5.

Apparently this issue is fixed/minimized in Live 2006. We shall see!!
