Using a throwback jersey as a default jersey

Sat Sep 10, 2005 8:19 pm

been trying to add new jerseys for Detroit and Indiana while leaving the old ones alone, so I added the them as "Detrc05h" and "indic05h" ie "classic 2005-06" jerseys. and assigned them id's 0 as default home jerseys in teamgear.dbf. And conversely i made detrhome 3 for a throwback home jersey. And I did the same things for the away jerseys.

It took a lot of fiddling to rename everyything correctly, but they work correctly if I go to play a game now.

However, if I go to edit a player in the game, things get weird - If I edit a Pacer, the game crashes; if I edit a Piston, it shoes him wearing the old 2004-05 jersey! (I replaced the horse head logo with the new P logo on the shorts...)

If this doesn't work I'll have to make the '04 jersey a throwback and make the '05 the regular detrhome and all that...

But this puts a real damper for Retro teams, if we can't just make the classic jersey their default. To make them default, we'll have to create a whole new team abbreviation and copy over all their logos and jerseys using that. But I guess we were stuck doing that anyway if they are to have their old school court, right?

Is there any quick way to clone logos and jerseys? Back for '00 Don Daily made a wonderful utility. If you want to make retro jerseys for, say the Lakers, but don't need to make new logos since it was the same back then - with this util you just put in your new abbreviation and the old abbreviation and you could clone them.

I tried again, just changing the Hawks' default to a throwback - when I play the game it defaults to the throwback, but if I edit a Hawk player, it still just shows the current jersey. So I guess no matter what id designation, when you hit edit player it always goes to xxxxaway.fsh .

The options for old school teams, then, are to create entire new abbreviations, or to suck it up and accept the fact that they'll look dumb in current unis if you hit edit player.

the fact that you get a blank portrait instead of a 3d cyberface is troublesome for classic teams too...

I think I won't work on retro rosters until '06 anyway, since the fast breaks are suposed to be fixed.
