Dribble and pull-up jumper?

Postby rcarey on Sun Jul 03, 2005 3:04 pm

When I play the computer, a move that it constantly uses on me is just dribbling right into me, then pulling up for the jumper.

However, I'm playing strong defense on the person...and usually that keeps people from penetrating; yet the computer can still penetrate and pull up.

Does anyone know how to do this on offense? Or how to defend against it?

Thanks,

From my knowlege there is really no way to defend that. I like to take control of my center so when I know a good jump shooter is going up for the shot I can block it with my center. Other wise I don't think you can stop that move. To achieve that move I think you just hit up on the right analog stick and pull up for the jumper!

Thanks for getting back.

It is a very difficult shot to defend...but what makes it frustrating is that I play solid defense, but they can still barge through me AND PUSH ME BACK, and before I know it they are in the air swishing the J.

What I would like to know is how they go right against my defense and are able to push me back like that...I can't stop it.

Thanks,

When you get to close on the defender it allows them to pust you back. I have x-box so I hit the "L: button. This will put my defender in a defensive stance and that should prevent you from getting pushed back sometimes. The shot is very lethal and hard to defend. Just try to stay in the shooters face. I also found that when you have a defender with a High defense rating it helps. For instance when I play Houston I have B Bowen guard T-Mac. Bowen will still get Jayed but not has much has any body else who defend T-Mac. Try putting your best defender against your opponets best player.

Awesome. Once again, thanks so much for your input.

Any ideas on how THEY go about doing this on offense? I'd like to be able to push the defender back and then pull up for the easy J as well.

Thanks again,

I've been able to push off defenders by just putting up the jumper. I think it happens when you are forcing your self on a shooter. If the shooter moves forward the defender will get pushed back. If you give the shooter just a little space you probably won't have this issue has much. To make the move happen try hitting up on the right analog stick and then pull up for the jumper. I think it will only work with good strong shooters though. Tmac, kobe, etc etc

Hope this helps

yea, the CPU scores bundles on those pull-ups......

one thing you might try as well is you "on ball physical defence" slider, sliding it higher should create a larger area around your defender that will pull up the atting CPU player, you'll get "pushed back" alot more but they should get by you less.

Playing real basket ball really helps with the fundamentals of live, like in real basket ball, you get knocked for playing too much defense, do a Carl Malone, If you know your gonna get bumped by the one guarding you, play off him a little. Say your guarding Duncan in the post, as soon as He gets the pass and puts the ball down, move back a little, his "bump" will be come a slow drop step and now your in the postion to contest, block or foul.

Sorry, mis read...

On offense, you can do that too, just freestyle the first step, dribble to the free throw line, then pop up, Detroit tournament palyers live with that move with Rip. To Defend it, just like in real ball, "Cheat" the drive. You know where the CPU is gonna dribble too, "the freethrow line" right? Play off of him, move your defender more over to that side so that when he dribbles he bumps into you and has to pass or reset. The Spurs parimater defense is based on that. Manu, and tony arn't the greatest of defenders but their one of the most fundamentally sound. They use that "cheat" to force the driver to the base line. And that's why Duncan has so many blocks. When you force the driver to the base line, the PF or the Center is in a postion to "HElp". Hands up or block. So just "cheat" your defender to force the driver to the base line and have your bigs do the rest.
