Rookies rating

Sun May 08, 2005 2:48 am

I'm not sure whether somebody found this out.
I found something interesting in players.dbf. The rookies ratings(I mean the prospect rookies) are related to the column PBLOCKS to CPASSISTS.
For example, PBLOCKS will be FGPBASE. POFFREB will be THREEPTBAS......etc

As far as I'm aware, those remain statistical fields. The P stats columns are playoff stats from the previous year, the CP stats columns are the current playoff (ie in the mode you're playing) stats.

Mon May 09, 2005 5:39 am

That's true for what Andrew mentioned. But how come those rookies(cpu generate) have playoff stats, the fact is they didn't play the playoff.
I check a certain rookie with those stat. like PBLOCKS in the first year, and the next year after he is drafted, the PBLOCKS value become his FG value, and so do other values.
Note that those values(like PBLOCKS) are not stable if you don't scout the rookie. The more you visit the rookie, the rookies' value will be more stable.
To make you understand, you may do some test.
First you edit a rookie's value of PBLOCKS to 99, then you scout the rookie, you will notice the prospect value of Field Goal is A+.

I hope you guys can understand. :)

they should be statistical fields, but they really are the rookies' raitings for the next season
and the scout reports (A-, C+, etc.) are based on them, but i don't know exactly the values (A+=99, A=90 ???)
and as much i have messed around with them i can say that they change +-10 by the next season
maybe because of the camp...

EDIT: here's the ratings in the right order

FG 3PT FT InsideSc. Dunk Stl Blk D.Aw. O.Reb D.Reb Passing O.Aw. Dribble Quick. Jump Strenght Speed Fatigue Hardiness 3PT Attempts (???)

Mon May 09, 2005 6:11 am

The value on the column SFGATT to CSTHREEATT are 10(originally). After you scout the rookie, the value will reduce. And if the value reduce to 0, those value on PBLOCKS will be exactly the value of FG, and so do others.

yes, I was wondering the same thing, and tried to set all those "previous records" to zero, on a guy predicted to be drafted 1st overall. The guy did get picked at no 1, and his overall rating was 0...

Mon May 09, 2005 12:14 pm

So do we think those correlate to their future ratings?

And he was still drafted first because they have a set draft number, approximately. They won't shuffle or anything, like in the real NBA.

That's really strange. For all other players, those are statistical fields. Interesting...

Mon May 09, 2005 5:23 pm

long live the power of experiment...if you guys contiue to observe pls do....this is very interesting indeed

Mon May 09, 2005 6:12 pm

I think this would help those who wanna add real coming rookies to their dynasty. 8-)

Mon May 09, 2005 9:13 pm

the order of the players drafted depends on their set salaries, the draft number is just for the projected pick
the biggest salary should be the first pick and so on...

Mon May 09, 2005 9:49 pm

I try to start an experimental zone here:
http://www.nbaliveforums.com/sutra295783.php#295783
but they was no reply...no comment? no interest? i don't know. :?
If we whant to creat a good dynasty update we need to use this way (for the skills).
Note: There is a decalage in those columns...when u prospect a rookie and note that he got a good Off rating and bad Block rating, after draft sometimes u will got a bad Off rating and a good Deff rating.

Tue May 10, 2005 2:28 am

I list the skills corresponding.

PBLOCKS----------FG
POFFREB----------3PT
PASSISTS---------FT
PPERFOUL---------INS.SCR
PSTEALS----------DUNK
PDEFREB----------STL
PTURNOVER--------BLK
PMINUTES---------D.AWARE
PGAMES-----------O.REB
PGSTART----------D.REB
PEJECT-----------PASS
CPFGATT----------O.AWARE
CPFGMAD----------DRIBBLE
CPTHREEAT--------QUICK
CPTHREEMAD-------JUMP
CPFTATT----------STRENGTH
CPFTMAD----------SPEED
CPBLOCKS---------STAMINA
CPOFFREB---------HARDY

Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Tue May 10, 2005 2:43 am

I presume
The column from CSTHREEMAD to PFTATT are the times you scout the rookie's skills

The column from SFGATT to CSFGMAD are the range those value changes.

If you scout a rookie ten times on his offense, possibly CSFGMAD reduces from 10 to 0 and CSTHREEMAD increase from 0 to ten.

So, there is a way to edit the prospect value, then those values become the exact rating next year. You may edit the column SFGATT to CSFGMAD to 0. 8-)

scottiegi, This will be very helpfull (Y)

with a whole bunch of trial and error I worked it out....

order of drafting is not based on draft rank as one might expect, it's based on PLAYRVALUE....the draftee with the highest PLAYRVALUE is more likely to be picked ahead of someone with a lower PLAYRVALUE....

for example, I copied some ratings for Martynas Andriuskevicius from one of the patchers with some dbf editing, however he ended up being drafted at end of 1st Round which was very unrealistic....I worked out the problem to be that the PLAYRVALUE had been calculated in the patch on the ratings, and because Martynas is a very raw player, his ratings were lower than the likes of Marvin Williams and Andrew Bogut....to ensure he was drafted highly I increased his PLAYRVALUE to below that of Williams and Bogut but above Taft and so on, and it worked....however, I did not tamper with his actual individual ratings....

rookie ratings are hidden in playoff stats as mentioned by the other posters....but these ratings are NOT set....they change, as do potential ratings and so on during off-season, draft, etc....they change to bring in the random aspect so that there is some variance in the draft order....

I hope some of this helps....any more questions or clarification needed on this one?!?

Thu May 12, 2005 2:13 pm

i missed this thread. damn it i've been working on those for a while....

Anyway every post is correct, but still is hard to figure it out

So i decided to make a bat file that will put ratings for the players after the offseason

Fri May 13, 2005 11:39 am

I think they just go by the schools letter/pctg system

A = 100 - 80
B = 79 - 70
C = 69 - 60
D = 59 - 50
E (F/R) = 49 and under

Does CPASSISTS = Primacy? :?

Sun May 15, 2005 5:51 am

i think that there was no field for the rookie's primacy...

Sun May 15, 2005 7:50 am

Then what does CPASSISTS mean? And can someone explain to me how primacy works?

Hmmm, I've tested the real rookie class the way Seraph made it, and Andriuskevicius was always picked at no 5 or no 6, despite his overall rating being low and with the PLAYERVALUE as is...

Sun May 15, 2005 1:02 pm

hmm, that's ^^^ interesting....dunno, just speaking from my experience, but whatever works works I guess (Y)
