How do you get assists when..

when passing to your center? Most of the time I'll have him back to the basket trying to push the defender finishing with a dunk eventually, but everytime I do so the guy who passed the ball doesn't get an assist.

The only way I've found to get assists was when the center or PF is running towards the basket and the defender is left behind,which allows an easy 2 points,but it doesn't always work and is quite hard to do at times so I was wondering if any of you guys knew what to do?

It's the same in reality. The rule is: a pass that leads directly to a basket is an assist. If your center makes a move to improve his chances to score a basket, it will not count as an assist. It's time-based in NBA live, I think. I'd guess that between the pass and the basket there must not be more than 2 or 3 seconds. You'll figure it out yourself...

Ah, I see that makes sense. I didn't exactly know how it an assist was counted both in-game and reality.

It might be because when the PG passes it to the C, he will normally lob pass the ball taking 2 secons anyway.

If you have a strong center Just pass the ball in to him and back the opponant down a bit. Once the center has a deep post posistion instead of taking the shot throw it back to the the pg. After that it's pass, spin, dunk and you got an assist.

Just as in real life, quite a bit of latitude is given these days when registering assists. A quick spin/drop step or dunk/layup immediately after feeding the ball into the post usually counts for an assist.

I guess I'll try that then,once I play with a good center.

Or try a pick and roll play with your center setting the screen for your point guard. If it works, your center will only be guarded by the opponents' point guard. You can now either shoot over him if your center has some shooting range or simply dunk it over the smaller guard who is usually much weaker than a center player.

I'll make sure to try that out as well, however I doubt that any of my centers would be able to shoot that far, since I usually set screens at the arc.
