Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

Well after installing and playing game for a few days it appears my game manual was thrown away by mistake, so forgive the basic questions. I never read the manual first, I always get my feet wet playing the game.
I'm playing NBA Live 2005 on the PC.
1) My guys do not seem to dunk too much in the game, button 1 is assigned to "Layup/dunk". Usually my guys just lay up. Can I force them to dunk? If so can I do different types of dunks in the game like I can do in the dunking contest. I find it odd that the dunking contest is essentially an entirely different game with it's own set of controls.
2) EA says go to the website for info on Freestyle air but I can not find anything. What is freestyle air and how do I use it? I assume it's like the other types of "free style" where you use your right anolgue stick to do different types of moves.
3) In the game there are two shooting buttons. Button 1 is lay up/dunk button 3 is jump shot. Is this correct? Anything else I should know?
4) Anyone know where I can get a copy of the game manual? Is it on the CD? (at work now so i do not have CDs with me). Is there a good source on the net with all the controls laid out (as opposed to finding bits and pieces in these forums)?

1) I personally think the players dunk more than enough times...if you still want to force them to dunk, though, there is no way to do this. You should turn your dunk/lay-up slider towards "dunk", this will help a bit. And no, you can't control what dunks your player does, this is determined by a "dunk packag" that each player has. It's just realism, imagine Yao doing Vince Carter style dunks.
2) Freestyle air is just an empty promise from EA. I, as well as you, thought this would be some kind of right analog stick move. Actually I was really looking forward to this. As it turns out, the only thing you can do with it is tap the dunk button in mid-air to adjust your shot.
3) Not really anything else you should know, except that you should release your shot at the top of the player's jump and that the release-time varies from shooting-style to shooting-style.

i agree with madsnyb...
there seems to be no force dunk this time around....
and the shooting has improved since last year.......
regarding the manual...there is one in the cd.....the disk 1. i think.......search for all the documents.....there you will have it......
i have been reading the manual too.....because of the cool pics.......but i dont think it makes me a better nba live player.......its the game playing that makes us better.

Freestyle Air also covers the ability to follow a missed shot the way you want to - either with a tip in, tip dunk or simply pulling down the rebound.

Freestyle air consists of changing your dunk/layup in midair, which is a nice addition.
It also consists of trying a tip in or a put back on the offensive boards...
In the offensive end when going for the rebound, you do the normal rebound the normal way, or you can use the jump shot button to try a tip in or the dunk button to try to slam it straight through the hoop.
These are again good additions... The put back is quite hard to do and get it right, but there were too many put backs in the earlier games as the AI would do it automatically some times...
The title free style air was a bit misleading, but maybe they were going to add some right analog stick maneuvering to it, but just couldn't get it right so they made it more simple. The title would suggest that it is coming... Maybe we'll have some of that in Live 2006.

Word.
I actually thought that Freestyle Air was that you can control and move the player's hand (while dunking/lay-up) using the analog sticks. That took some excitement off NBA Live 2005.

cool thanks everybody. i thought i was going crazy but as it turns out i pretty much figured most of this out. this is not the first time ea had misleading information.
i saw the video on-line that discusses "free style air" and all it talked about was the various types of rebounds. i was pulling my hair out thinking i was missing something major. but unfortunately (or fortunately) no.
