Max signing salary for teams over the cap

If my team is over the cap, whats the maximum amount of money i am allowed to spend on an FA? I realized that even tho i was over the cap, i could still sign some cheap guys like Wang Zhi Zhi etc. Does anyone know the limit? Thanks in advance.

depends on how many years experience the player has....rookies get like a minimum of $385k and with each year of experience it seems to go up by about $100k-$150k....a player with about 6 or more years experience gets league minimum of $1.1m....
so basically $1.1m is the max you can pay a player if you are over the cap....unfortunately no mid-level exemption in Live '05
