Who should I trade?

Postby Dylan_Castaneda on Sun Mar 20, 2005 2:18 am

Ok I'm in the second year with my Lakers. I won the championship last year. Ok, anyways during the offseason I lost Devean George, Tierre Brown and Luke Walton. On my roster now I have:
C-Vlade Divac, 5.39M 1YR left
PF-Lamar Odom, 11.47M 4YR left
SF-Caron Butler, 2.5M 1YR left
SG-Kobe Bryant, 15.95M 6YR left
PG-Chucky Atkins, 4.5M 1YR left
6-(C) Brian Grant, 14.46M 2YR left
7-(SG)-Kareem Rush, 1.81M 1YR left
8-(SF)-Jumaine Jones, 1.88M 1YR left
9-(PF)-Slava Medvedenko, 3.00M 1YR left
10-(PF)-Brian Cook, 1.16M 2YR left
11-(C)-Chris Mihm, 3.8M 2YR left
12-(PG)-Sasha Vujacic, 385K 1YR left
1IR-(SG)-Isiah Waters, 691K 4YR left
2IR-(SF)-Ettore Tkachuc, 385K 2YR left

I have a salary of 67.32M, and the salary cap is 44.34M
With the FA'S leaving I go down to 47.90M
So I'll have (14-7) 7 players left this summer.
I want to sign Shaq (32.41m) and Yao (5.60M) and possibly doubtably GP(7.16M)
So this summer I need to go down from 47.90M to like 35-37M
I perferably dont want to trade Kobe, and I want to get rid of my draft picks (I. Waters and E. Tkachuc considering Water takes up alot of money for a long time.) So who should I trade? And when and for who? Please be SPECIFIC.

Unless you .dbf edit something, the first two have a 99% chance of resigning with their current clubs, and GP will probably retire after this season. So I do not think these moves can be a factor for your franchise.

So who should I trade? And when and for who? Please be SPECIFIC

It's difficult to be specific not knowing the exact roster and financial data of the other teams in your 05/06 season.

You'll probably be a little bit more than 47.90 at the end since some players have rising salaries year after year...

I would suggest finding a CPU team with 1 or 2 open roster spaces and trade away 2 or 3 of your mediocre last-year players for 1 good one with a larger contract.

I know I was not of much help, but that is all.

A bit of a long shot there, don't get your hopes too high. I tried the Grant & Odom for Shaq in the 04/05 season and got ziltz. Atkins & Cook for Yao is even more improbable. But you should attemt these, nevertheless...

Grant

Try dumping Grant and Cook together for somebody who has around 15M expiring contract...

It will take you around 13-14M to get Shaq and around 11-12M cap space to get Yao, in case they don't decide to re-sign...

Yuo can also trade your future picks in order to save some extra cap space...
Also sprach ALF!!!

What I'm trying to do is get rid of Brian Grant, but no team has a salary cap space over 4M, except like Chicago and two others, they have 10M.
I didn't think of Shaq's 30M being for multiple years either. So I have room. Plus someone said something about .dbf editing, how do I do that?

DBF editing is a way of cheating in this case. You change the game to suit your own purposes. That is wrong, just wrong and cheating.

When you are trying to unload heavy contracts to create space for next season you don't need that cap space... You need to get guys that are on their last year of their contracts. So Brian Grant with his 12 million contract can be traded for another player with a 12 million contract, if that other guys contract just happens to have one year left, then you get the space next summer.

This too makes you do some quite bad trades in some cases. If you really want someone, you will probably have to trade some good players for some bad players... I've done this on several occations. It has usually worked out fine for me, but there's always a risk that the player you want, just signs with his old team... There are no guarrantees that Shaq would be a free agent if he's on the "last year on their contracts" list also known as "upcoming free agents". Rebuilding is quite tough and if you don't know what you are doing, you'll most probably get it a couple of times wrong before you get it right... It's pretty complicated.

Practise makes perfect... Guys like Brian Grant, Allan Houston, Sprewell etc. are the non-tradeables as they are guys that aren't that hot anymore and they have those monster contracts... They are tough to trade.

The trading AI is better than ever before... In the past you could really pull some fast ones on the AI, but it's a lot trickier now... You really have to work on a trade to make it work... But it can be done...

Keep the faith and keep on pushing that trade offer button to get things done. Things have a way of pulling themselves together in the end. If you don't get Shaq, you still got all that cap space and there are always good players in the free agency period. Just not always the guys you want.

ok brian grant is a bum wit a huge contract u gotta trade him. first of all... is his contract over at the end of the year? if it is then DONT trade him... and dump his salary in the offseason.

if he doesnt hav an expiring contract then trade him for another player who has an equal salary who has an EXPIRING CONTRACT. dont expect to get a good player... get another bum type like jerome williams or something (i dunno if hes expiring thats jus an example)...

do the same thing for all ur crappy old expensive players

Ok, so I've just decided to keep Brian Grant. I plan on signing Shaq for 1Yr, 20Million. Also sign a good/cheap PG and draft a PG and SF. I still would like to know how to .dbf edit the game so I have a better chance of signing Shaq.

If you're depending on him becoming a free agent and not resigning, cross your fingers.
